--> Kitfox-List message posted by: broschart <cfbflyer@localnet.com> the chivy pick up manual i have says the platinum spark plugs are good for 100,000 miles. don't know if that would apply to a 582 rotax engine but might be worth looking into even if it extended their life to 300 hours it would be a big help it also says the radiator coolant is good for 150,000 miles, that's also interesting Have a good day - Charlie AlbertaIV@aol.com wrote: > > --> Kitfox-List message posted by: AlbertaIV@aol.com > > A couple day ago, I took my daughter to lunch and the old 582 just about > didn't start after we finished eating. --> Kitfox-List message posted by: aerocon1@telusplanet.net Rex, The Odyssey (consumer products line) amd Genesis (inductrial products line) batteries are perfectly suited to the "hard" charge given by the Rotax. I have one that is over five years old in a Challenger and it's still going strong. These are not to be confused with Gel Cell batteries that require a long slow charge. Fear not Rex, you made a great choice for your plane. Just install and enjoy. Bob Robertson Light Engnie Servies Ltd. Rotax Service Center St. Albert, Ab. --> Kitfox-List message posted by: "Harris, Robert" <Robert_Harris@intuit.com> What does the solenoid do? The Odyssey PC625 does not spin my Rotax 582 fast enough. Will a new solenoid improve my performance? I installed the PC625 in my KFII (582 Blue head/3.0 C drive/3 blade IVO prop) three days ago and it did not perform well. The temperature was 65 degrees f. I'm going to get a thicker battery cable and see if that helps. The existing cable is #8 AWG and runs from behind the seat to the solenoid on the firewall. I may also install a new solenoid. I had a PC625 on my Challenger (503/ 2.6 drive/ 3 blade GPS) and it worked great. Rex you got a great deal at Batteriesforeverything. I paid $130 US dollars for mine and that did not include shipping. Robert N43WC

With the move to web-based subscription, some spammers may be able to slip through and get on the list. We are un-subscribing list members who send suspicious messages to the list. Fortunately, you will never receive any attachments to the emails, so viruses will never come from this list. Matt also monitors and cleans the lists of spammers all the time, so if some make it on, they will be gone soon. Thanks for your patience. One for the main electrical and one for the starter. Before buying too much do the old Standing Rock Reservation trick i learned growing up by running a cable direct from batter to starter to see if it turns. That way you'll know if it's mechanical. From reading several of the posts lately (one by Don Smythe) i've been convinced to totally eliminate my solenoids as a point of failure. Especially since i have a battery drain problem likely with the solenoid! SAfety first! --> Kitfox-List message posted by: "Fox5flyer" <morid@northland.lib.mi.us> That #8 cable is pretty small. Should be more like a #4 for that distance. The contactor doesn't draw enough current to make much of a difference with a 582 and the PC625 should be more than enough grunt to spin it. Change out that wire and check all your connections. Also, check the voltage across the battery while cranking and see what you get. Also looked at pics from John Lines. The two scoops are different in that yours looks like it protruded down about 1"-2" where John's sticks down about 4". Hit me one more time and refresh my memory....Did the plans call for the scoops on the Model II or did you just design/add them on your own? Don Smythe

    Subject: N60Fs flies
--> Kitfox-List message posted by: Fred Shiple <fredshiple@sbcglobal.net> Just completed flying off FAA's 40 hours. N60FS is an S6/912S that came in at 820#. Gained some weight with a Prop-link hub (17#), 8" tires (8#), lexan doors and turtledeck(8#) and that uneccesary (but not an option for this old car guy) extra coat of paint (8-10#). Used AFS's water based urethane (don't ask!). Its equipped for day VFR and will go on floats next summer. It flies honestly as Skystar advertized and was worth the 3 years work (took about 6 months off during the process for good behavior). Thanks to the many members of the list whose help made things go much more smoothly and especially to John McBean. We all need to appreciate how lucky we are to have John's help on the list. Blue Skys! Fred
