Has anyone done this? I know that the tubing wall is not very thick....would there be enough thread to hold? Any one using this type and how do you like it? Any suggestions on model to use? Model IV with a 80hp Rotax 912 Thanks, Larry ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 07:14:34 AM PST US From: "Fox5flyer" Subject: Re: Kitfox-List: series 5 bubble doors --> Kitfox-List message posted by: "Fox5flyer" Use nutserts Howard. That way you only have to drill through the side with the glass. Also, if you use a good quality (3M?) double sided sticky tape you only need the screws about every 10 inches or so. I used -6 SS panhead screws. The sticky tape is what actually does the job and the screws are only there for redundancy. I also have vernier throttle and mixture on my Sonex, and like them. bh > We would like to replace the standard friction throttle with a vernier type. > Any one using this type and how do you like it? I have one and it works fine. It is what I am used to, but there has been reports on the list that others have switched to the friction throttle. I guess it is really a matter of preference. I know of some that have reduced the tension spring on the carburetor to reduce the full on pressure. I placed a counteracting spring behind the throttle to get pretty well the same result. If I bump the button on the throttle it tends to rev a little, but not the strong tendency to go to full power. I understood that the purpose of the spring was to keep the engine half power, should the throttle cable break. In Ed Downs Book he says that the later models that do not have the ribs there is a +/- 2degree neutral point in yaw. My summarising suggests to me it is better to have them. Ed says it's no big deal just recentre the ball with your foot but I would still say ribs are worth the trouble. After all they are better. I can't see enough weight involved to be of much consideration. About 300 hrs on them. If I do them again I will just use nutserts, maybe, it was just too easy with the tape. I do think i would paint the door glass around the edges to hide the tape.
