That's what I replaced my Maule with and also happy - works good and it's a lot
less $$$.

The homebuilders wheel in Aircraft spruce is soft rubber. It took out all
that taxi vibration on asphalt. I am very happy with it as it does what I
wanted it to and it is smaller and lighter and works well off field and
never have to worry about patching it.

Jim,
Got a bearing number for the axel.
Don't take the wheel off. Maybe you
have the box around that the bearing came in.

Thanks kurt,
You summarized well. Having just fixed the pito line i doubt it's
something on the ram air side and have somewhat forgotten about the
static side since consensus lead me to vent it inside the cockpit. But
it is likely something parked it's carcass there. I didnt see the
suggestions about bug killer but have been spraying a little wasp killer
in the wing tubes to keep them from finding their way in there. I've
had some surprises this summer in flight and with my allergic reaction
to them I'[d need to land in the hospital parking lot! haaa
Thanks!

A few weeks ago I posted a 582 EGT problem. A difference in EGT's
of nearly 85 and very high.
As it turned out my carb was jetted with 160 mains so after putting the
165's spares and doing a correct syncronization of the carb slides and
Verify clips on 3rd notch (moving slides to top of throttle body where
the main jets are the only influence and feeling or eyeballing) then my
EGTs evened out and came down into the 1000-1100 range. Thanks for all
your good feedback! It turned out all logical once you helped me
understand!!

Hi Jared,
Unfortunately your fuel burn rate will now be higher!
I always used 165s in cold weather, and 162s in warm.
I also changed the needle jets, and had mixture control.

Hi Bruce and Don,
My front EGT 582 cylinder is 100 degrees hotter than the rear and it's
synchronized. Do I fix this by moving the needle clip setting on the front
carb and leave the rear. (I think they are both on they are both on the
third right now.)

I'm just now catching up on the list activity after a few days out and
noticed much discussion concerning the Jabiru and the Kitfox.
I installed a Jabiru 2200 on my Model IV two years ago and have been happy
with the performance. I had a 582 before the Jabiru and feel the Jabiru has
increased performance. I now cruse in the low 90 MPG's.
I maintained the round cowling which required the most work in the entire
installation. I have some pictures posted on the Jabiru USA website. There
are also other Kitfox pictures posted on this site also.
I must say the the folks at Jabiru USA were wonderful to work with. Even
when I experienced a problem a year after the sale they were still helpful
and wanted to see me flying again.

building a kitfox. I would like to look at some other projects or completed

Drattttt! I have been meaning to test fuel rates but haven't been able
to do it scientifically yet.
What do you think the approx burn will be now? 5 GPH??? or so??

Robert,
Last week i talked for nearly an hour and a half with a rotax guru and
repairman from NC.
He couldnt stress enough that the troubleshooting process consisted of
finding the "differences" between the carbs including the clips (3rd
notch) and proper syncronization as i mentioned in my email earlier this
week.
He also said that he has seen MANY guages with the exception of the
"EIS" with that much difference. He also mentioned checking the seat
where your main jet screws into is evenly seated. And outside of
verifying the jetting and clip setting and sync the only next likely
culprit is always the carb bowl float levels.
THats' pretty much the list he gave me and fortunately 2/3 through the
list i nailed the issue!
Good luck.........i'ts definitely frustrating!

I am building a Kitfox Clasic IV with a Suberu engine and was wandering if
any one else in the Kansas City area( in the range of a rented Cessna 150)
was also building a kitfox. I would like to look at some other projects or
completed aircraft to get some Ideas .

Jared,
5 GPH could be a starting point. You need to fly your engine and get a
good number.

Robert,
We just went through all this with Jared. First, check to make sure the
instrumentation is correct. Then, check the main jets, for the proper value
for the present OAT's. Look at Jareds last post and check all the stuff.....

Hi Jared,
5 gph or worse during warm weather. I used to get 4.5 gph at 6000
rpm. With mixture control, I ran my EGTs at 1200F, and a bit higher,
because with the mixture control you can check to see what the gauges
show when rich (4 cycling), and mine showed 1100 there.
You really have to do a bunch of testing if you want reliability
and good fuel burn. You could try 162 mains (is there another between
160 and 165?), but use a bit bigger needle jet.
Have fun playing with the 582 and EGTs!

Don Smyth did a test a while back on fuel lines, well I discovered that my lines
also were swelled up on the inside. If anyone has the MIL-H-6000 2/91 mine
is 5/16, take it off!! I replaced mine with USCG approved fuel line which is gas
friendly. I discovered this problem due to a serious loss of rpm's after take
off. I also discovered that my fuel pump may have gone bad. OH, I have a
912S. I would post photo's of the fuel line, but I think Don Smyth has them posted
on Sport Flight if I'm right.

My invoice from Applied Industrial Technologies is for 2 GENE 32262-88
commercial ball bearings. Cost all of $4.20 each.
The bearings that come with the wheels are built with a ridge that will
prevent the wheel from running off the axle in the event of a bearing
failure. The GENE 32262-88 does not. That and the slightly narrower wheel
are the reason for the oversize washer. The washer does tend to capture the
grass and weeds from the off field landings.
