It does sound like an "interesting experience." The Hirth does not have a great reputation, but likewise the 2 stroke Rotax does not either (in a helicopter) . Remember the Mini 500? But your Rich Man is correct, if anyone can get a two stroke working, you can. At least the mixture will be right. Have fun with it, and do not hesitate to ask advice of the group when you need it. I've gota friend visiting me and he's shopping for a kit plane, too. Call me if you can, or email is fine. Number is (517)522-6354 ....I live in Grass Lake, Mich ...only an hour or so away. I'd really like to see a finished plane and view some of the areas that are not clear to me in the manual. I bought a IV that is in the very early stages. I have had no luck with my 532. I would have to ship the engine to Lockwood or CPS. Not worth it. Time too install my 582 blue head. My neighbor Walt is a retired Airforce mechanic. Having no experience with 2 cycles he jumped in and helped all he could. I'll check at tomorrow's EAA meeting. They may know someone in San Antonio. Not being a mechanic I believe I have done all that I can do to get my friend's engine running properly and am hoping that there is someone in the central Texas area or would be willing to travel here that is qualified to work on the 912. Of course this would be for pay. Sure would appreciate anyone willing to fix this engine to call me at 512 365-7020 and let's discuss. Thanks Jimmie ________________________________ Message 5 _____________________________________ Time: 06:23:29 AM PST US From: "Jimmie Blackwell" Subject: Re: Kitfox-List: Need a 912 Mechanic --> Kitfox-List message posted by: "Jimmie Blackwell" Dave Chuck Martin had scheduled a meeting between Joan Howes and Don Dison (airplane repair guy) yesterday morning to discuss fixing the engine. According to Chuck, Don Dison went out of town and did not show up for the meeting nor did he even call to let them know. Chuck indicated that Joan was very upset and went home crying. My message to the list is a desperate attempt to get some help. We may need to jump back in and try to fix it again. I did get a phone call from Steve Cooper concerning the 912 engine. He gave me a few more easy things to check. I am probably going to Houston tomorrow to look at the Kitfox Speedster for sale. Would love to have you go with me if you are available. Applegate" Subject: Kitfox-List: Trigear Kitfox 7 For Sale --> Kitfox-List message posted by: "William J. Applegate" Hi Troops, I'm putting my Kitfox 7 trigear kit up for sale. Very little done to date. Has all quick build options. Kit is set up for a Franklin, Lycoming or Continental engine and includes induction and electrical systems, cowl, wheel pants, wing prerigging, some flight instruments, cabin cover, tinted glass and bubble doors, tool kit. Has all the latest updates to include powder coated reinforced rudder pedals. No motor mount as I hadn't determined which engine I was going to use. Kit is in my hangar at Ryan Field in Tucson, AZ. Local pickup only, will not ship, but willing to assist you as necessary. Should make someone a great aircraft. Selling for personal reasons that I do not wish to discuss. Looking for $22,500 OBO. I have over $25,000 into the project. Please call if you are interested @ 520-296-1502 or cell @ 520-403-9173.
