I agree, Robert. Even seeing small aircraft in non-controlled airspace frighten
me. Recently a French microlight Skyranger crashed with a Mirage fighter in
French non-controlled airspace. A good reason to read NOTAMs but even so ...
I really like it when I am controlled and they say: "you have north-going
traffic at 9 o'clock, two thousand feet." Even if I don't have the traffic in
sight, I know that the radar does and that we are separated by at least 500 feet.
Cheers,
Michel

HI Jimmie, i have a model 3 with two 13.5 gallon wing tanks plus a small
fuselage tank...so yes it is no problem to get rid of the panel tank. Dont'
forget you can always make your own tank...metal or fiberglass, check out
Tony Binglelis...(sure i spelled it wrong)..books for some how
too..instructions. Dan.

When it was certified it weighed 816 lbs so I would have a usable payload of 384
lbs. I weigh 160 and my wife weighs 120, so we can carry 14 gallons and be
legal. I'm only 38 years old and getting a 3rd class isn't really an issue right
now. It is really fun to fly in that configuration but I actually get higher
cruise speeds with the long wings.

Gary, at 1200 lbs what is your payload? I guess an alternate question is,
what is your empty weight in the Speedster configuration?

series 5 would comply with the regulations. When I built mine and certified
it, it is an early model 5 , I purchased the quick change wings kit to go
from speedster to long wing configuration. In the short wing configuration,
the aircraft has a gross weight of 1200 lbs as prescribed by skystar and
that is what is written in my airworthiness forms. So conceivably my
aircraft meet the LSA weight limit in the speedster configuration.
