K&N's website is: http://www.knfilterchargers.com/search/univround.aspx The filters that come with the kit, I think are the RA-045V they have the offset flanges that clear the Engine Mount. I had trouble on the right side (passenger side) because of some through the firewall wiring, so I used on the left RC-2440 without the flange offset and on the right side, I think I used the RC-1150. This filter is 3" long by 3.5" diameter the filter area is pretty close to the wider / thinner RC-2440 Hope this helps. Would it be better to stick the seals to the cowling? No better to stick it to the firewall because it is split (u shape) and fits over the edge of the firewall. It just tends to come away from the firewall when you go round sharp bends - which the S5 has at the bottom. Maybe we were being a bit fussy with the gluing but we didn't want fumes in the cockpit. Anywhere the rubber strip around the firewall doesn't completely seal off, you could glue something to the cowling in that spot to help seal. Kerry > > Don't just search. Find. It would seem that some of us are not aware of the Rotax Owner Association. Sign on and they will e-mail you about all the newer Service Letters and Bulletins. This organization has been publishing and disseminating the Rotax Letters and Bulletins since I bought my engine in 1996. The first bulletin in the data base was issued by Rotax in August of 1992. So far there are 112 Bulletins - not all related to our 912 UL or ULS, but Rotax is quite thorough in notifying their customers of issues pertaining to their engines. I am not sure why some are not aware of this tremendous resource. Go to: http://www.rotax-owner.com/ And then click on Service Document Retrieval System. The easiest way to check for pertinent bulletins is to use the engine serial number search. This will provide all the bulletins pertaining to your particular engine. I've decided to use the starter from a 912A since the back of the HD starter ran squarely into the motor mount and removal of the lugs would not have been a solution. The fit problem is due to a longer geared shaft on the newer starter that requires Rotax to use an extension at the geared end of the assembly. I assume Skystar is already aware of this issue and has modified their motor mount accordingly. Did you not research a lot before you purchased your plane? 2. Do same for prior to purchasing parts, radios, etc. 3. Most important ~~ is customer service from the company. It may be a wiz-bang product that works perfectly in the booth at AirVenture, all shined up and pretty ~~ But what about the customer service after you were persuaded to buy "Right Now" and save a couple bucks, is your blood pressure worth it? Investigate prior to purchasing, know what you are getting. Lots of surprises out there! I have sold very few products at airshows, probably 95% of these sales I had communicated with customer prior to the show! I would prefer to have the customer discuss product, take info and study the product and insure they are getting what they actually desire. Much happier customer & Vendor that way! I know I spend as much time answering questions prior to customers actually purchasing my products than I do afterward! If a prospective customer isn't satisfied with the vendors answers prior to being a customer Why buy from them ~ do you think it will get better? ~~ doubtful it will I've called all over the world in the past 3 months, Australia, Canada, UK, Germany, and Turkey to answer questions about our product when I felt e-mail couldn't answer fully, or I didn't totally understand the question. About 50% of these calls were to prospective customers. If the vendor has a good product, why would they not answer questions and communicate with prospective customers??? My company motto is as follows, and I do my best to insure everyone is happy with our product. Outstanding Customer Service is our Motto If you like it let others know, If not let me know! Thankfully our product has been pretty bulletproof, and we have had no service bulletins since 8/01 which was on the systems, in 8/02 I goofed and sent out a few incorrect CD's of instructions. All this is posted on our website. In my personal thoughts this is the way to do business it can't be done any other way! We, as vendors, are responsible for keeping all informed of any problems we have had with our product, and to resolve all customer difficulties if at all feasible. That is part of the cost of doing business. I do not intend this to be a commercial, I won't even put anything except this re the business except to say to those of you who have my product on your planes, I'm in the process of getting a link to a new site with all my customers planes on it. Full plane photo where product can be seen~~Send them in! Love to have them, lots of Foxes with my product on them. Thanks to John King and Herb Gottlett in I do have some excellent photos on our website for installing in the KitFox. Elbie A Vendor who is committed to satisfying customers. Maybe the approach would be to adapt tanks that already have that feature built into it. You are uniquely qualified to provide trustworthy info, given your qualifications and temperment. Some of what got you safely on the ground is what passes on to us as measured accuracy (I'm sure after a 10 count for self control.) Who else could have given us the exacting pre-inspection info like you did before you sent the prop off to NSI? If we all can stick as closely as you did to the facts on every product, we can have the most informative list out there, and maybe save someone's bacon. (Probably did many times already) We just need to avoid the emotional vendeta's that cloud the facts and recognize that every product needs watching at sometime. Pick any part mounted on a KF and we've complained about it, including all of SS themselves. There are plenty of butts to be kicked... Here is where we make it right even before the manufacturer does. Reading about WW-II aircraft, it is amazing how long it took just to get simple things fixed in war time. Years, if ever! Just try to get cockpit heat or defrost in a P-38 at 45,000'. How ya' gonna fight if you can't see out the window? There were a lot of "field fixes". Just a few critical subjects I've learned about only because I have joined this list: Slipping 582 clutchs Carbs falling off 912's Washers down the intake Horizontal sab trim motors breaking loose Fuel hoses swelling shut Rudder peddles/cable supports breaking off Upper windscreens and butt rib caps breaking loose Flapperon reversal with full flaps On and on... Too many are known only to people here on this list and are not addressed by the manufacturers, whoever they are. IMHO we just gotta' stick together right here and keep informed. That fiberglass is too thin to simply drill and cut threads. If you did this, you would probably be wise to build up a fiberglass thickness (say at least 1/4") on the outside of the tank before drilling and tapping. You had to submit lots of paper work for their approval. Now all that has changed. Just follow some simple rules and stay out of trouble. I don't know any figure for the Hirth engine but many years of playing with Kart engines including drastic modifications tells me that 1500 is way to high. Pistons do come in alloys. Good pistons have a higher percentage of silicon in the aluminium. These will handle higher temperature and wear better. However manufactures toss up between more silicon and machining problems. High silicon content is very hard on machine tools. Generally a temp range between 1175 and 1275 is the limits. It is possible to run close to the top end with suitable pistons and cooling. Patterns in the combustion chamber are important and rich mixtures at the top end do help. However I can't imagine 1500 derees working. You can also call 1 888 CANPASS and speak to a Customs agent about a suitable place to clear. Hope this helps.
