You pronounce it like Thor-gear but before that, you have to drink a lot of aquavit,
eat hallucinogen mushrooms, wear a viking helmet (do you want to borrow
mine?) and stand barefoot in the snow for one hour. ... then you'll get the
right pronounciation! :-)

Thanks Don. Although the front placing of the cooler is what is recommended, I
have seen installations as you mention, using SCAT hoses. I don't know yet what
I'll do but I have plenty of time to think, talk and experiment. That's the
fun of experimental/microlight, isn't it?

Hello list.Regarding fitting a manuel valve to the radiator system of a 582.
I fitted a standard 25mm [1 inch ] plumbing ballvalve that was modified and
have operated it for 130 hours without any problems.
The mod involved disassembling the valve and machining a small amount off
the teflon seal as otherwise the valve is too tight to turn.
The ball of the ballvalve is drilled thru the centre 5mm[3/16] to allow some
water flow if the valve jams.
This is very unlikely if enough is machined of the seal.
The valve is operated by a length 3mm[1/8] silver steel [drill rod ???]
clamped into an aluminium adapter fitted to the cut down handle of the valve

Michel,
I would guess they are recommending mounting it up front simply because
that's were the air comes in. I wasn't necessarily suggesting scat tubes to
get air to the cooler but, providing a dedicated duct from somewhere on the nose
of the airplane to the cooler. For instance, on the 582 there is a ton of
room below the gear box that is away from the cowl opening. Making the
dedicated air intake scoop allows you some flexibility on where to put the cooler.
Putting a door inside the duct would be easy. Again, I haven't seen the Jab
setup so none of this may fit.

Lynn, I used the Mitutiyo digital protractor from Aircraft Spruce or Grainger's
(Grainger catalog # 4LB15). I found it to be very fool proof and accurate and
so have a number of other builders who have borrowed it. It is easy to calibrate
and is only 6" long. Should you need additional length place it on a conventional
bubble level frame with no additional re-calibration necessary.

Good point, Don. I'll get first then engine installed, then I'll look at the different
alternatives. On good thing, though: I won't have to worry that much about
temperature in the beginning because it will be the Norwegian winter.
One interesting point I read about the Jabiru, is that one can expect higher temperature
the first hours of the plane. I guess the engine needs to run in and
the not-so-smooth running of the beginning generates more heat than after a while.

I can't tell if you're being serious or not! This list is so silly at times

Ok now I'm in for it,
I recieved a big box and have to start building the right wing. My question
now is:
Should I turn the plane into a speedster. Meaning take a rib off the tip.
I was thumbing through the manual and it says the speedster has no dihedral,
mine does. If I shorten the wing with dihedral, will it cause any problems?
Next, I plan on ripping into the left wing to check for any damage and
replace the tank with the big one, and move the locker over. Plus I want to
put a locker in the right wing. Final question: Should I just build the
wing like normal and leave the tips off. I have the kitfox 4 1200 with
rotax 912 ul.
There was somebody the other day wanting to know about removing fabric from
the wings, mine came right off without hurting the ribs.

I have used the 48" Smarttool level, both in the rail and the module itself after
removing 4 socket head countersunk screws that your vendors may not be aware
of. It does require holding the 9v battery while in use.
I have at the hangar a friends digital level that is about 9" long and self-contained.
With any of them you need to go through check the calibration before using because
they are susceptible to drift. Either should be available for under $100.

Anyway you can find good bargins there on this kind of stuff but as always
be careful who you buy from.

I'm getting near the point where I'll be needing to do some serious
leveling, and angle checking. I'm a bit confused by the finite degree
of accuracy required by the rigging instructions, namely the 11.4
degrees of angle between the "belly of the aircraft and the #15049
bellcrank"....this is in the Rigging of the Flaperons section of the
building manual for the IV of 1994. The manual suggests that "a Smart
Level is invaluable for this". My question is why does that angle have
to be so darn accurate if the fuselage has been leveled with a simple
bubble level? My thinking is that if this is such a critical angle,
then we'd better be using the Smart Level right from the get-go, hadn't
we? If a bubble level is all right for the leveling of the fuse,
shouldn't a bubble protractor set to 11 or 12 degrees be accurate
enough for the rigging of that bellcrank? What am I missing here? <

I hate to say this but, I was serious. As soon as I hit the send key it
dawned on me that we were talking P-51. For some reason, I had automobile stuck
in the brain. I would like to see how the P-51 did it and I have never seen a
picture that showed anything on the output door.

Does anyone know what happened to the Skystar website?
Did they close down?
No they are just having a lot of trouble. The site came straight up for me
too but they did have something posted the other day apologising that one
couldn't reply to postings. They were saying several weeks to a cure when
they get a new system. Unfortunately I think it's a great resource that's
useless in the meantime but maybe it will all be ok in the long run.
I generally check it out each day and some strange things have been
happening.
