Does anyone have experience with the "Homebuilt" tailspring from Aircraft Spruce
for about $30? It seems like a good fit for my Model 3, but I've also got the
address of the one's talked about previously with 2 leafs(remove one). I put
a Scott 2000 tailwheel on and had to shim the spring down for it to clear the
rudder when landing. Thank You
Kevin

Subject: | Battery/Starter Problem |
--> Kitfox-List message posted by: "Peter Graichen" <n10pg@neo.rr.com>
Hello Don:
I found out very early in my flight testing (8 years ago), that when doing
short flights ( 30 minutes or less) and maybe even stopping at the gas pump
to refuel, meaning another engine start,
The standard automotive starter that comes with the NSI does not put out
high enough voltage to recharge the battery in during the short flight
duration. And if you do the same thing day in and day out the gel cell
battery will go downhill. There is a long dissertation on Bob Nuckoll's
website on this subject. I purchased a special compact charger specifically
for their gel cell batteries.
I plug it in after every flight (via a BMW motorcycle plug with
spring-loaded cap mounted behind the turtle deck). It stays plugged-in until
next flight. It also keeps the smaller stand-by gel cell battery for the
IPB (Integrated Power Backup for ignition and fuel pump) charged (with diode
in charging circuit). I learned all that very early when learning to fly my
Christen Eagle way back when. It solved my very serious gel cell battery
problems then as well. The charger, by the way, is available from Bill
Bainbridge of B & C Specialty Products. If you talk to him say hello for me.

I have my prop off while doing cowl work. Today I decided to roll the
engine
a little and let the thing lubricate a bit (mags off). The flange would
barely move and only go through one compression stroke. That battery reads
12.35
volts (static). Put the charger on at 2 amps for an hour warm up the
battery.
Still the same thing. Pulled one plug for each cylinder and engine spun
but
"MIGHT" have been slow. Now sure since I normally don't do that.
Could the Powersonic gel battery be bad (3+ years old) and still
indicate
a good charge? How about the starter bad? I'm hoping for it to be the
batter or some bad contact but this is acting strange. Anybody with any
wisdom
thoughts?

Dear Kitfox listers:
I just realized that I haven't received the e-mails from the Kitfox list for about
a week. I already did my homework and send my contribution.
Will you take me back??? It happens that I have an addiction for flying Kitfoxes
and for communicating with other Kitfox addicts. I promise that I will behave
myself.
Regards!
Jose

Jose, OK, we will take you back if you be good.
Seriously, though, your email is making it onto the list, so you are still
subscribed. The problem may be with your ISP or your computer filtering the
list mail out. Check any rules you have in your email client to see if the
KF list emails are landing in a different folder than you expect them to be.
I have cc-ed your email address in case you can't see this on the list.
After checking your email client for problems and you still are having
trouble, let me know.

Ok, we will take you back, Jose. But first, you have to stand in front of the
group and say:
- "Hi, I am Jose and I am an addict!"
- (the gang, together) "Hi jose!"
:-) Michel

Jose,
Why would it take a week to realize you received no emails from the list?
I realize that after 6 hours or less. Welcome back.

Hello Group,
Off topic but may be of interest to some.
I'm retiring and selling our home and 46 acres in central Louisiana. Would
make a good airpark, for details e-mail me off-list.
