I know there has been some talk about this product.
Has anyone tried the ones from Landshorter? Also how
much trouble to install and finess untill they
actually gave some benefit. How much did they help on
take off and landing? Did anyone experience any loss
of cruise speed?

I will get a no wind day and use the GPS to determine the actual speed.
Thanks for the information. I thing mine is slow. I have a constant speed
prop from a Katana. I should be fast. I am heavy at about 685#. My IAS is
100MPH. Have you had to increase the length of the pitot tube? I did to get
mine out of the wake on the wing. It seams to work now. Maybe not completely
accurate at high speeds.

Glenn,
What are the weights on the left/right mains and tail wheels? Did the
weight and balance check out OK? I think the W/B should be done with the main
fuel tanks empty with fuel in the header only. Also with oil in the injection
system. Once the W/B is complete, you mathematically calculate (using the
moments provided in the instructions) the W/B for fuel/pilot/passenger.
With 943 total weight (fuel/pilot) and no passenger, It looks like you
built a single place airplane???
W/B was always a little confusing to me to say the least.

I flew the kitfox for 28 hours during student status and got my td(I'm sure

finished up my private pilot in the Cessna and was still able to fly the
kitfox afterwards.

Hi ?,
Please sign your e-mails. I forget who you are by
addressees and I feel rude not using your name.
Sorry.
No problem. You weren't kicking as much as
appropriately questioning. Stalls and spins are
something to be respected, understood, and tamed IMHO.
If placed correctly, the VG's shouldn't reduce top
speed. Their boundry layer control on the wing can
off set their extra drag. In my case, I did have some
cruise speed loss with some VG positions.
Stalls can be made better - or worse. My testing with
the VG's indicated a much more controlable power off
stall with them on then with them off. The
improvement varied with position.
I actually enjoyed the rocking horse stalls I got with
them on and stalled down to 2000' agl, well below
normal testing altitude. The plane was completely
controllable with me able to do coordinated and
uncoordinated turns while stalled. I pushed maybe 50%
rudder each way without a hint of spinning. And with
a flick of the wrist for less elevator, the plane was
flying again - that quickly. It is very comfortable
to be within 5 knots of stall with them on.
I felt a stall recovery at anything above 50' agl is
not too hard. Below that, you need to flick your
wrist to unstall the plane and add power to not lose
altitude. Without the VG's, you'd be at greater risk.
All that I was pleased with. It was the lack of stall
speed reduction that frustrated me. I promise to do
more testing later.
I didn't do enough power on stalls to call the outcome
certain. I want to see some power off speed reduction
before I bother to test power on much. That is too
hard on the plane to do all the time, IMHO.
And I do hope that someone will find some results or
test a better position first. Though I didn't mind
doing some 50 stalls in that testing, I would like to
do it just once more in an effective position and get
on with other things. So if anyone wants to do some
research on their own... :-)
Torgier always finds good things for us on the net,
but you other guys can get into it too. There is a
lot of tallent here.
Great discussions here too!

Glenn,
Looks like you are under gross weight limit to me. Now get the computer
weight and balance program and do the rest of the job. It will print
out a professional weight and balance form and the inspector will be
impressed. You can find one on www.sportflight.com. Also, don't get
more than one person to help when you do the weighing, arm measurements
and calculations. There are a thousand ways to get the correct results
and you will go crazy with the different opinions your helpers will have.

Baggage 10 * 60 = 600
--------------------------------
Total 950 13566.8
Most rearward CG location: CG(r)=13566.8/950= 14.28 (")
You'll see, my Fox is just at the aft CG limit when loaded like this.
Hope this help.

To All,
The below comment just came in from Bing. I asked them about modifying the
Bing carb to allow operation on "gravity" fuel feed only. My question to them
is below their comment. Looks like a gravity flow system might be possible
with the bings. Wonder why someone hasn't tried this before?

We would replace the float needle seats with the gravity feed seats (larger
holes), there are several sizes, you would probably want the 2.5.

I am a new member to this forum but I am a kitfox owner. I would like some
comment on speeds of others. I have a classic 4 with a 912 and get about 87
MPH with out speed mods. I have recently done the wing struts and landing
gear and now get about 98 MPH. I am about to get rid of the tundra's and go
to 600 X 6 and wheel pants. What are others running? I am interested in
hearing all engine types
Hi ! Kevin,
Rex Shaw here from Australia. I have a ClassicIV Speedster
with the laminar flow wing. My motor is a Rotax 582. I get around 95 knots
S&L. Re changing your wheels, before you do that have you considered just
changing those buffed down ATV tyres rather than the wheels and brakes. It's
easier and I think looks better. I also think there is nothing to be gained
speedwise but perhaps someone else thinks otherwise. I would suggest that
wheel pants are about all that might help there. I have them and everything
faired by the way.
Re those tyres I put on 4 ply turf tyres. They are a little smaller and
neater looking. The tread is mild. You can get tubes for them and they are
cheap. I think the size was 18 x 6.50 x 8. They don't get punctures from
prickles either.
Have fun !

Hi Guys,
With old 582ed N194KF, I did weight & Balance for a bunch of possible
conditions.
Thus I knew I could carry me and a 200# passenger, full fuel, and full
baggage, and still be in CG range, even with near empty panel tank. I could
also carry a 240# passenger, and no baggage, and still be ok.
So I never had to do a W&B. Kept the spreadsheet with the fox in case any
questions.
I've done the same with Sonex N321SX.
Cheers,
bh

Do any of you have a heat box design. I put a muff on the end of the muffler
opposite the exhaust. It is not worm enough air. Volume is good. Forced air
from speed. I have added a long tunnel down the front to increases the
warming distance but have not tried it yet. Any other ideas? I used a
eyeball vent in the firewall for the inlet. I can shut it off or on from
there and direct the air flow.

hearing all engine types
Hi ! Kevin,
Rex Shaw here from Australia.
Have fun !

Hi Kitfox friends,
Thought I've to send some picture from the North, for everyone to see.
This last summer has been the most fantastic ever, for me- with the Kitfox.
OK. Here is the first one, this one is from a flight done in March this
year, here you'll se "my" kind of terrain:
Here you can see out to the Northern Atlantic Sea, yes it's some cold..
http://www.kitfox.net/images/March_04.jpg
This other one, is from a rather famous place, as this is the island where
the warship; Tirpitz was sunken during the second world war, just between
those two islands.
http://www.kitfox.net/images/Haakoy.jpg
Well, this is my "home" airport, kind of large enough -for a Kitfox, 9800
feet. Can you see the Dash 8 on the short finale? The bridge you see right
below, is the one I'll have to cross everyday -on the way home.
http://www.kitfox.net/images/RH_BASE_19.jpg
This picture is from a fly in, the GAP meeting at Elvenes. Here you'll see
the "bush" group, two Kitfoxes and one army cub. This army Cub was the
leader, he guided us to the most fantastic places.
If you ever have a change to join such a flight, do it, you'll never
regret..
The left one, is my "buddy" Kitfox, a model 4(1050) with a 912S, then the
army Cub and finally my Kitfox model 2. We are both "guarding" the old
army Cub. :)

I would guess that he means that without a fuel pump, centrifugal force
during certain manuvers might cause the gravity flow to stop. Probably
harder to accomplish in reality than in theory.
