Dear Listers,
As I write this its still November 30th so technically the List Fund Raiser
is still underway! :-) I've gotten so many nice comments from Listers in
the last couple of days along with their Contributions that I just had to
share them with the Lists. Guys, I really appreciate the kind words and
great support that has come in the last few days.
If you've been meaning to support your Lists this month but have just been
putting it off until the last absolute minute, now's a perfect time to make
that Contribution!
http://www.matronics.com/contribution
A special thank you to everyone that has already shown their support. I'm
compiling the List of Contributors and will post it in a couple days. In
the meantime, please read over some of the nice things people have been
saying about the List along with their Contribution...
Thank you!!!

Sounds like your flow is OK.
I cut a two horseshoe shaped pieces of 1/8" alum that would fit half way
around the muffler. They were about 1" wide ("U") to allow a 1" space around
the muffler. I placed them about 9" apart and covered with thinner alum. On
the inside, I put three 1" wide X 7" long alum plates to act as baffles and a
scat tube fitting at the input/output. Oh, covered the ends of the ("U") to
hold the air in. Strap the device onto the muffler with a long screw type
hose clamp.
I have heard that putting some brass kitchen scouring pad inside the
cavity will help to increase the heat but I haven't tried that.

Leroy,
Landshorter helped me even though I didn't buy from
them. Great service!
I've tried 6 locations so far and the jury is still
out on my results, (no stall reduction) so I'll have
to let someone else who got good results answer.
It took me about 1.5 hrs to install the VG's each
time. More testing to follow in '05.

I await to hear some opposed to stal and spin training cause it not gonna
happen to them.
Kirk,
My wife and I were fortunate to get our training at a flight school that
REALLY stresses safety (I'd like to give them a plug, but I don't know if
that is allowed). I wish I had a nickle for every stall we did (all types).
From what I have heard, most flight schools teach you about spin recovery,
but we actually did a spin (3 times). It's something that you can't
describe, you have to actually experience it. I feel that having actually
done a spin, I won't be as likely to panic if it ever (God forbid) happens
unintentionally. We also went up in IMC. There's a BIG difference between
being under a hood and being in the clouds. Two weeks after my wife got her
ticket, she had to make a deadstick landing. I was so proud of how well she
handled it and contribute her cool headedness to our training on how to
handle emergencies. You can't imagine how I felt to watch her enter her
downwind leg and all of a sudden the engine quits! Those kinds of things
don't only happen to "other poeple". Be safe and have fun.

Bill
Im glad to hear that you found a good flight school that went the extra
mile. And I agree 100% that it probably did contribute to her successful
completion of a dead stick landing. Hopefully you will be able to use the
same instructor for your bi-anual to brush up on those manuvers.
good luck with your flying. I have to go as the sun finally came out today
and I feel the urge to go flying.

Hi Bruce,
I see your Fox is a Model IV can carry more weight than
mine (Model II gross 950 lbs.) I and my son are figureing the W/B
all kind of ways so we know just what we can carry.
Thanks,

Hi Guys,
With old 582ed N194KF, I did weight & Balance for a bunch of possible
conditions.
Thus I knew I could carry me and a 200# passenger, full fuel, and full
baggage, and still be in CG range, even with near empty panel tank. I could
also carry a 240# passenger, and no baggage, and still be ok.
So I never had to do a W&B. Kept the spreadsheet with the fox in case any
questions.
I've done the same with Sonex N321SX.
Cheers,
bh

Hi Glenn,
Yes, the old N194KF is an IV-1200, gw = 1200#! Empty was 575#.
Sonex is not quite as good, GW = 1150#, empty = 635#, but it's so fast I now
make day trips instead of overnites with camp out!
Cheers,
bh

Torgier,
Missed you back them too.
To me, VG's are like flaps. They are things that let
me change a "cruise wing" into a "landing wing". I
always planned to put them on my Fox to expand the
envelope for more utility (read fun). Same with
fairings. I like to go faster and slower than
designed into the "vanilla" flavored planes.
Part of the playing for me is to be able to do more
with it. A little smaller runway. A little farther
on the fuel/time available. A little smoother flying
or more gentle stall. Snappier performance. All of
that is a goal or challenge to keep me thinking and
building, not just flying.
Things to look forward to when I am old. Oh, that's
now. :-0
So many years ago I learned to fly an A-4 at full
power, in buffet, hanging on the edge, steering with
rudders, and holding the wings level cross controlled
for max lift and slowest speed.... You tried to get
behind the other guy because the one behind gets to
"shoot the other down". It was fun! A-4's have VG's
and flaps and slots.

Plan to install the Grove gear tomorrow and planning to use the Sportflight.com

straight forward. Are there any issues or oddities that I should be concerned
about?

Dear Lister,
Please read over the Kitfox-List Usage Guidelines below. The complete

Kitfox-List Usage Guidelines
******************************************************************************
The following details the official Usage Guidelines for the Kitfox-List.
You are encouraged to read it carefully, and to abide by the rules therein.
Failure to use the Kitfox-List in the manner described below may result
in the removal of the subscribers from the List.
Kitfox-List Policy Statement
The purpose of the Kitfox-List is to provide a forum of discussion for
things related to this particular discussion group. The List's goals
are to serve as an information resource to its members; to deliver
high-quality content; to provide moral support; to foster camaraderie
among its members; and to support safe operation. Reaching these goals
requires the participation and cooperation of each and every member of
the List. To this end, the following guidelines have been established:
- Please keep all posts related to the List at some level. Do not submit
posts concerning computer viruses, urban legends, random humor, long
lost buddies' phone numbers, etc. etc.
- THINK carefully before you write. Ask yourself if your post will be
relevant to everyone. If you have to wonder about that, DON'T send it.
- Remember that your post will be included for posterity in an archive
that is growing in size at an extraordinary rate. Try to be concise and
terse in your posts. Avoid overly wordy and lengthy posts and
responses.
- Keep your signature brief. Please include your name, email address,
aircraft type/tail number, and geographic location. A short line
about where you are in the building process is also nice. Avoid
bulky signatures with character graphics; they consume unnecessary
space in the archive.
- DON'T post requests to the List for information when that info is
easily obtainable from other widely available sources. Consult the
web page or FAQ first.
- If you want to respond to a post, DO keep the "Subject:" line of
your response the same as that of the original post. This makes it
easy to find threads in the archive.
- When responding, NEVER quote the *entire* original post in your
response. DO use lines from the original post to help "tune in" the
reader to the topic at hand, but be selective. The impact that
quoting the entire original post has on the size of the archive
can not be overstated!
- When the poster asks you to respond to him/her personally, DO NOT
then go ahead and reply to the List. Be aware that clicking the
"reply" button on your mail package does not necessarily send your
response to the original poster. You might have to actively address
your response with the original poster's email address.
- DO NOT use the List to respond to a post unless you have something
to add that is relevant and has a broad appeal. "Way to go!", "I
agree", and "Congratulations" are all responses that are better sent
to the original poster directly, rather than to the List at large.
- When responding to others' posts, avoid the feeling that you need to
comment on every last point in their posts, unless you can truly
contribute something valuable.
- Feel free to disagree with other viewpoints, BUT keep your tone
polite and respectful. Don't make snide comments, personally attack
other listers, or take the moral high ground on an obviously
controversial issue. This will only cause a pointless debate that
will hurt feelings, waste bandwidth and resolve nothing.
