      Hi there

Was wondering has anyone changed the ratio of their Rotax gearboxes from a
3.00 to a 3.47 and kept their original propeller? I understand that it
will be required to be re-pitched - not sure what the effects would be, M
y guess is after re-pitching it would be a worse climb and better cruise?

The second thing, is my GSC prop shed it's polyurethane leading edge
insert the other day. Managed to keep my teeth in after the added
vibration and landed safely. After doing a search on the net for GSC, all
that I can find is bulletins about how these props shed blades - never
mind leading edges! Are these guys still in business?

I was considering repairing the prop by removing the poly leading edges
and filling with liquid metal, in addition to adding some small brass
screws for the liquid metal to have a mechanical grip onto the leading
edge (other than the V groove that is already there). Any thoughts.

      Regards
      Roger

Has anyone with a Subaru motor replaced the asc
igniton switch? Mine has gone bad but they are made
for a airplane motor not a car motor. Someone
suggested buying a car igniton, has anyone tried this?
The original builder used this switch but really jerry
rigged it to make it work.

      Bill

There was a Model 4 with 82hp Moesler in Sudbury which I flew and it had
      severe performance problems.

This was a direct drive with wooden prop.

It ran smoothly and sounded great but it lacked power and was heavy. The
owner tried a number of props but it suffered from poor climb and
overheating due to the long full power climb out.

My plane with floats and 582 out performed the Moesler so he ended up
selling the plane. The new owner pulled the engine and put a 582 in the
      plane.

      Randy,
The residue built up after burning several tanks of fuel over 2 months, after cleaning
the tanks well during construction (with water). I doubt you'll see anything
from one cup of fuel. I also got the same thick, brown, sticky residue
in the fuel drains of both tanks and had to replace them..

Good thought. I haven't noticed anything in the fuel checks. I will try to

      Hello,

Just finished the repair of a bent rudder on my KF3. Straitened, recovered
and repainted and it looks great.

A little bolder now I'm looking at the elevator. Skystar sells an enlarged
elevator to improve the low speed pitch authority. Doesn't look like it
would be too hard to just stretch the one I've got.

Question: What is the chord of the elevator used on a KF4?

      Thanks in advance,

      KF3 Elevator

      Hello,

Just finished the repair of a bent rudder on my KF3. Straitened, recovered and
      repainted and it looks great.

A little bolder now I'm looking at the elevator. Skystar sells an enlarged elevator
to improve the low speed pitch authority. Doesn't look like it would be too
hard to just stretch the one I've got.

Question: What is the chord of the elevator used on a KF4?

      Thanks in advance,

I was thinking this way also, but I have a couple months to work this out.
Let us know how the cooler looks and works. I was told this is a Rotax
      cooler.

      Steve,
I just ordered the oil cooler kit from Skystar. It is a bit more $ ($275)
but I don't need to work out a mounting scheme and search for fittings. I
am at the point that I want to fly!

      Group,
I'm in need of a new engine oil cooler for my Fox. Place to buy and a
cooler that cools good would be nice info. I tried to find the earls cooler
noted on the sportflight web site, but it seems that one is no longer
      available.

I just changed the tail wheel on my MKIV. It has the Maule SFSA fitting. I
just changed the wheel itself for a 6" dia soft rubber homebuilders
replacement wheel from Aircraft Spruce. P/N 06-03600. These have very crude
bearings that I wouldn't use and are for a 5/8" axle so I changed these as
      the Maule fitting is 1/2".
I can't believe how quiet it suddenly is and it cambers much better
pulling the back around. Hard to say for sure if it handles better in
take-offs and landings but I think it might be easier taxi-ing.
I just wonder what it will wear like.

      Hi LeRoy,

Well, if you don't grab Howard's switch, I used a boat
switch on my soob. It provided the advantage beyond
"turn to start" by having "push to prime". I forget
my sorce, but you can look up marine suppliers, if you
like that idea. I figure it is also better in a wet
      environment.

If you use a marine switch and want choke function two problems exist

      1. you will need a solenoid to pull the choke(s) on ( extra weight and
      another place for troubles)
      2. Choke will only function on or off all that switch does is closes the
solenoid circuit so you will not have partial and full choke option in that
      case.

You need a simple switch prolly under 10$ with start function if you have
      electric start.

      Ron,

I have a Revmaster 2100D in a Classic IV and have been happy with the
results. It climbs at 800 fpm, cruises at 90 mph. and burns 3 gph. Installed
it weighs in at 190 lbs. Weight and balance were not a problem. I
fabricated my own motor mount, cowling and everything else firewall
forward, but Great Plains makes all these things. The AeroVee would be a
great engine, except that it turns 3800 rpm to acheive 80 hp, which will
limit prop diameter. The Revmaster redlines at 3200 rpm. I'm getting the
best results using a Sensenich 62 X 32 prop. The shorter wings could be a
problem. The deciding factor for me was financing, the VW is less than half
the cost of the 912 installed and parts and maintenance are a lot more
econonmical. It is slower and less powerful, but those are the trade offs.
      Marc

      Injector volume?

Apparently not enough for some. I haven't used it in
really cold wx yet. Some that have, drill out the
injector hole to increase the volume. For me,
flooding has been the usual problem. I stopped
priming first. I now turn the starter on, then push
to prime until it lights off. If it doesn't need
priming or very little, it starts right up. But in
the cold it may immediately quit after I stop priming.
       Winter testing to follow.

      Ellison carb...no choke.

I would suggest you check into Warp drive. I had a blade come off my
NSI hub (not the blades fault) and it went thru my float and was stopped
by the SS nose gear assembly. The blade was hardly damaged..just some
minor scrapes. Talk about one tough blade. From now on, it is composite
      for me.

      Rex,
We put about 750 hours on a Homebuilders special tailwheel assembly before
we sold our other model 5. As far as I know, it's still working fine on the
      plane.
I had to change the tire at about 450 hours, but we did LOTS of landings
with it. I changed the tire because the rubber was almost all gone, not
because of the bearings. The stock bearings were fine.

May want to check out http://sportplanellc.com/Products.htm about half way
down the page. Little larger then most but works great.. Keeps the 912S
      cool in the Phoenix summers....

      Group,
I'm in need of a new engine oil cooler for my Fox. Place to buy and a
cooler that cools good would be nice info. I tried to find the earls cooler
noted on the sportflight web site, but it seems that one is no longer
      available.

what volume does your primer iject ( insert) give to engine?

and yes the colder you get the more prime you wil need unless you are using
a pre heater or a heated hangar

I am not sure I could give you a definitive volume
answer. Unlike an injector that pumps so much per
stoke, this is just a spray injector that shoots fuel
into the intake manifold for as long as the solenoid
is open. The volume also depends upon fuel pressure.

Like a garden hose, this is about as simple as it
gets. Main fuel line - solenoid - hose - spray nozzle
      - intake manifold.

I wouldn't now if it puts out 1 cc/sec or what. And
it would change with fuel pressure anyway.

Does anyone else with a NSI engine have a better
      answer?

      Steve,
I came in late on this. I have the Skystar oil cooler on my workbench. I
went to the smaller Earl cooler on my 912UL because the Skystar cooler was
too efficient. Did you order one yet? Jeff Classic IV

Marc thanks for a positive response to vw power I tried to respond
offline but mail was filtered. It sounds like the takeoff performance is
lacking compared to the normal Kitfox, but probably still better than a
cessna. The 4stroke TBO and fuel burn are the benefit I like. I can
build my own motor and keep the low rpm cam, but to exceed 1915 cc's
gets expensive. Valley Engineering offers a redrive for $1300 delivered
that increases thrust from approx 275 to I tink it was over 400 lbs. Not
bad for mogas. Sorry if I don't respond to all of the feedback, it's all
appreciated even the pitfalls I need to avoid. Ron 92 speedster
