Michel,
Has anyone answered this for you yet?
There is a cowl anti-chafe tape that can be used to
stop this common type of rubbing. If that is hard to
get in Norway, you could substitute. Maybe a clear
outdoor vinal tape can do as a good substitute without
disrupting your paint design. It may have to be
changed more often, but your cowl would like it.
Be sure to clean the surface well before applying the
tape.

Much is hard to find in Norway, Kurt. Especially in the little town where I
live. Remember that the entire population of Norway is only half that of New
York City!

Very kind of you, John. After Kurt's advice, I was thinking to simply put a
bead of silicon rubber compound as one uses for bathrooms and (plenty of) on my
sailboat. Of course, it is coming out of a tube and needs to be spread in a
thin layer but ... compare to my present cowl moulding job, it will look like a
child's play. The idea then would be to have it as thick, or thin, as needed.
What do you think?
BTW, it was certainly my fault that you missed the original post, it was at the
bottom of a long email. Yes, I am too talkative, I know, my wife reminds me
that everyday! :-)
Cheers,

Bob, since your order was from so long ago this may change your
shipping fees. My Series 7 kit was delayed by quite a bit earlier
this year and as a result my fees changed. The shipping company
they used for my kit has gives quotes/estimates that are only good
for so long. The cost of shipping is greatly affected by the cost
of fuel, and as you know fuel costs have changed quite a bit lately.
By the way, you do realize that, even when the crate arrives, some
components will likely be on backorder, don't you?
One more thing, for when your crate arrives. If you have read any
of the online journals of homebuilders, you will realize that
getting the shipping crate, intact, into your building area is a
major logistics problem with many solutions. I chose to pick it up
myself at the truck loading docks. I hired a flatbed two truck to
move the crate (it's about 16 feet long and a thousand pounds) from
there to my garage. A local company did an outstanding job of this
for what I believe was a reasonable fee. I have no affiliation with
the towing company, but since they guy such a good job I should
mention it is Bayside Towing of Gulf Breeze, FL. I was surprised
that the driver didn't even blink when I told him there was an
airplane inside the crate- unusual cargo must not be all that
unusual in the towing business.

Not really too ironic since Skystar and Frank monitor this list. At least,
they always have before.

Michel and all -
Saw a friend using strips of the "loop" part (of the hook and loop
velcro stripping) as anti-chafe material for the cowling on his
project. Seems to be a good idea but have no idea about service life,
etc.
Has anyone seen this used before?

The very first priority of any company is to communicate and sell. I see a
pattern of Skystar not tending to business. I know they are running on a
skeleton staff and I sympathize, but I only hear complaints anymore, where
we used to only hear praise.
I couldn't agree more. I'm sure none of us want to see them fold but like
things are going they appear to be heading that way in my opinion. I think
the danger is if they collect all this money so far ahead and they fold or
something then customers are likely to loose.
I would suggest that in both parties interest the money should be held in a
trust account not by Skystar. I think it's a reasonable conclusion that they
would be currently using this money paid up ahead for materials and labour.
That's fine up to a point, but when this money might be at risk it needs to
be held in a trust account. A variation might be part paid up and part in
the trust account. Skystar could possibly get a more favourable overdraft
rate against the trust account anyway than without it. I realise they do
also need some security on the order and a trust account does that for both
sides.
We can't tell Skystar what to do but a customer ordering a kit can
negotiate a trust account deal and this might be prudent.
When the money is collected so far ahead it suggests to me that ones money
is not even being used on ones own kit but on someone elses further up the
line.
Mind you I do wish Skystar success. I see them as an important part of all
the kitfox flyers. Negative talk like this may not be helping them but one
must protect ones interests. If Skystar want to help themselves I would
suggest as Don says that their first priority should be to work on their
communication. How much time and money is that going to cost ?
Rex.

Rex,
Well said !!
I came from the School ** The customer comed first **
When you stop thinking that way and catering to your customers -they will
stop coming.
I also wish Skystar great success , They have excellent Products just lack
in communication.
question is why do they lack communication ? Especially from the 100 %
PAID customers.
I agree with you Rex -- Do not pay upfront as if they became chap11.com
guess who gets nothing ? The guy who sent his cash.
Not trying to scare anyone away but be careful.

Tom A,
When I last asked I thought you said you were using the 2:12:1 gears not
1:94:1 as indicated in the recent magazine article. Has something changed. I
was just about to put a set of the 2:12:1 in since the 1:94s seem to load
even the turbo engine down to much. My original thinking was to get close to
the .88 mach number or 2650 blade RPM as suggested by Warp Drive. However
16.5 degrees at that RPM does not appear attainable. I had better
performance with the 2:34:1 gears.
