Kurt,
You are correct, there were several pointing straight aft and cut square.

Great presentation Kurt. I've noticed by watching the Van's RVs that many
of them have their exhaust extended to mid cabin and running straight back
while being faired nicely with only the tips showing. The reasons being to
reduce noise and to take advantage of any thrust provided by the exhaust.
In my opinion, any increase in thrust or efficiency, no matter how small, if
it isn't canceled out by something else, is a good thing. If it's free
power, why not take advantage of it?

I second that. During my cowl mods, I had to add a short extension to
my muffler tail pipe to get it away from the new rad intake. As it turned out,
it's taking about a 45 degree backward slope ( I guess a good thing). I
haven't cut the tip so it's still square. I will probably cut it to get that
extra little (how ever much) improvement. Every little bit helps.
I considered running the exhaust pipe horizontally all the way back to
the tailwheel and then pointing it at a 45 degree to the ground. This way, when
full throttle was applied, the tailwheel would come up immediately and allow
takeoff's is under 10'. Just Kidding.

Bob,
I considered a check valve but really not sure which way I would want to
check the flow. I want air to enter the tank via the vent for normal flight
but I also want the air to exit the tank when sitting out in the hot sun. The
air needs to go both ways depending on the situation so, which way would you
install the check.
I have seen my tanks drip through the vent on hot days with full tanks.
Obviously, my below the wing vents aren't quite as high as the standard Fox
vented cap.

Something has worked well for me is I purchased a small automotive vacuum type
check valve. I has a nipple on each side with 1/8 dia. hole in each nipple. The
area where the check valve is contained is about the size of a nickel thus the
thing is shaped something like a top you would spin with your fingers. I drilled
a small hole in the top of the wind screen at the highest point possible
and secured it to the to wind screen. The vent hose comes up from the header
tank and is routed along the wing root and plugs in to the bottom nipple with
the other nipple sticking out of the wind screen. The check valve allows air in
but doesn't want to let fuel out. I have seen a few drops of fuel on my screen
only one time. I use 100LL so its very obvious if a leak happens. Maybe this
is a good way for someone else also.

I would then suggest the exhaust pipes to be ball-swivelled and omni-directional.

Thanks for the link, Shorty. The seller calls it a Kitfox "Clone", but there
are some very real differences. Ailerons, instead of flaperons, wire tail
supports, negative dihedral wing (or is it drooping?). Real stubby nose,
kind of like a Cub. Almost like an ultralight.
Too bad it is not completed. I love to see individual designs like this.

Hi,
If you look next the carb bowls there is a small attachment that is an optional
point for carb sync.! that location is the attachment for the primer line hook
up. It is also directly behind the rubber gasket that attaches to the manifold
intake this location will be on the flat side of the carb bowls. I'm sure
you know that the primer will pull from the gascolator then inject to the carbs.

Hi everyone. My name is Pete Sigrist and I'm relatively new to the list. Last summer
I bought a mostly finished KF IV- 1050 with a 912 UL. The kit was started
in 92 or 93 by a Robert Best in San Jose CA. Then it passed through several
hands before I got it. I would guess it's about 95% done and as "they" say, about
95% to go. In the meantime, I fly a RANS S-12 with a 582 out of a small private
field south of San Diego near the mexican border.
So far I've learned quite a lot from your postings. Thanks!
I do have a couple of questions.
Does anyone know Robert Best or have any info about him?
When a stock GSC prop is bolted to the flange of the 912, do the bolts go directly
into the machined aluminum hub or is there a round plate between the bolt
heads and the hub.
Thanks again

Pete,
I seem to remember that a round plate is called for. I was just at the
airport today looking at mine. I fabricated mine from 1/4" alum plate.
Welcome to the list.

Need to get the paperwork started.
I have picked up the amateur-built packet from the local FSDO and want to

I have no N-number reserved so I am starting from the beginning.
Would I first need to submit a letter for the special N number then wait
for
the FAA to send a number back to me before sending in 8050-88,8050-2, and
8050-1 for the registration process?

Hi all,
I need to replace the fabric covered door panel with the
sewn pocket that SS sells. I lost mine last summer when the
velcro gave way just enough to pucker a hole into the airstream,
it then inflated in about 1/2 second and then ripped itself away and
landed in some field that was just plowed about 75 miles from
home.
Mine was a cordura blue. Any ideas?
Thanks, Jeff Smathers
