At the time of building, he installed quick-drains with about a 1/2" diameter outlets. He could attach a hose from the drains to the trailer tanks and be finished draining full fuel in about 5 minutes. Then using an electric fuel pump, he could fill the tanks back again really fast. Here is a pic of the trailer. It is in the TRAILER section of the SportFlight site. http://www.sportflight.com/cgi-bin/uploader.pl?action=view&epoch=1014612479 Don Pearsall -----Original Message----- From: owner-kitfox-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-kitfox-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Michael Gibbs Subject: Kitfox-List: Re: Wing Folding --> Kitfox-List message posted by: Michael Gibbs I saw a trailer that had integral fuel tanks. One then would have to rent their own hangar from the county at the going rate. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Clem Nichols" Subject: Re: Kitfox-List: Wing folding > --> Kitfox-List message posted by: "Clem Nichols" > > $400 for a T-hangar? Not really what I wanted to hear, but a workable solution if I can't get the caps to work. I think I'll struggle with the caps for a little bit first, though. Maybe I can get / make some good caps that won't leak. Guy, unfortunately I'm sure Don is correct about those original caps leaking. However I was getting trouble with mine leaking and I tried to get the Mercedes gaskets here in Australia that are reccommended to fix the problem. Here though I had to buy the complete caps and I wasn't going to do that just for the gaskets. I know in the USA though these gaskets are readilly available at about $2-3 each so you could try them. They are 2.5mm thick. I used some 3mm fuel resistant insertion rubber and made 2 gaskets and they are working OK. I put a bit of rubber grease on them occasionally and they feel nice to tighten down. Either way cost and effort is minimal and worth a try. On the vent tubes you can just put some fuel tubing hung out past the wing to carry any excess expansion out of the way. Just put it on when you put your plane away and keep the end up to stop siphoning. I can't believe the hanger prices you are paying. It costs me $10/wk for a huge hanger. It is the wing roots. It has been discussed here that air can go into the wings and overpressure the insides, loosening the fabric and perhaps the wing tips. Backwards works great if you put a lock on the rudder and the elevator, which you should do any way. I am looking at buying a Avid HH and have been monitoring the avid group for a while now and a getting a little concerned about the fibre glass fuel tanks deteriorating in the wings. Is there a fix for this. Is this something that should be scaring me away from the Avid? Also the flaperon attach point at the wing rib on the plane I am looking at has one broken and the fellow says that he will repair it, but I have read about one avid that these failed in flight can anyone shed some light on these things? I would really appreciate it as I am very interested in the Avid but don't want to be unsafe. I would also be interested in a kitfox. I was not keen on making the fitment a permanent fixture, so was not that keen on cutting holes in the fabric. I have literally cable tied the aerial to the pax side of the fus framework just aft the seats. It works perfectly. Yes, you may get some responses indicating that putting in a ground plane is a good idea. Since then, I have had a few friends do the same, and not one has ever had a problem. (Our ATC are sticky at the national airports, and will only allow you to fly from their airfields if one is transponder equipped - they are not shy to recall you or deny joining if the transponder is not 100%.) We are getting close to covering, but before we do, we would like to add a transponder to our panel. We would like any suggestions on a brand or model ( I like the garmin 327). Also need some help about the antenna location and whether or not it requires a ground plane at the base. I also have a question about the point where the lift strut attaches to the leading edge of the wing. It appears that the hole for the bolt for that attachment will end up under the fabric once the wing is covered. Is there any problems with this or will this problem take care of itself?
