Nice story Tom. Don't forget to keep us in the loop when the wheels leave

Tom:
Did you need to extend the Skyfox cowling to fit the engine, cooling ducts and
the KF IV fuselage? I'm fitting a Skyfox cowling to my KF II. I already trimmed
the cooling ducts. It seems like I will need to extend the cowling close
to an inch to have a good fit near the doors.
Did you modified the air intake scoop to make it fit the cowling? The lower section
of the cowling does not provide an adequate flat surface to attach the air
scoop "as it".
Looking forward for your project pictures.
Thanks for your support!

I bought the same RM micro monitor
I built it on a similar kitchen table
I made a similar wiring error
Ron fixed me up. (twice)
Great product, great service

I have to chime in. I agree - Ron provides great service and the unit
has worked flawlessly for me for several years. I only wish it had the
ability to stream data out to another device in real time (maybe it will
with the upgrade?) and an ability to scan multiple egt/cht so I could
get rid of the rotary switches. Otherwise, it's excellent and great
value for money.

I have two techy questions for anybody. If I take two two typical Facet pulse
fuel pumps rated at about 5psi and plumb them in series, what will be the pressure
coming out of the downstream pump?
Second question. Can the pressure of the Facet pulse pump be increased?
Please explain your answers.

Subject: | Handheld radio with good squelch? |
--> Kitfox-List message posted by: Steve Maher <lilabner_45@yahoo.com>
I've had a Yaesu/Vertex VXA-120 radio mounted on my Kitfox's panel for
a while now. It works well enough, but I wish I could turn the squelch
up on it a little bit more. I keep getting noise when nobody's actually
on the air on my channel.
When someone is transmitting to me, the noise goes away and I can hear
the person loud and clear. But when nobody is transmitting to me, I get
a lot of background noise, and it's pretty rackety and very
distracting. If I could turn the squelch up just a little more, I feel
that would cure the problem. But I've already got the squelch set to 8,
which is the max! This is with the radio connected to a real antenna
behind the cabin - I'm not using the rubber-ducky antenna the radio
came with.
I've tried this radio in a Cessna 175 also, connected to the real
antenna that plane has. No luck, the handheld is still noisy as before.
In both cases, seems to be noisy whether the radio is running from the
plane's power, or from its own NiCad battery. When I use the Cessna's
panel-mounted King KX-170B radio, I don't get the noise. The King is
much better behaved than the Vertex handheld.
I've also tried a Vertex VXA-210, it's just as noisy as the VXA-120.
Does anyone know of a handheld radio that's less susceptible to noise?
Basically, one whose squelch works a little better than these Vertex
handheld radios? Do you have a handheld radio you're happy with?

If you have two pumps in series, you will have the sum of both pressures, 10 psi
in this case.
I don't think you can increase the pressure of a pump, but there is a regulator
device that you could use to decrease pressure.

Try turning your squelch down not up. On CB's you have to back off the
squelch to get rid of the noise, down side is it limits your receiving
range.

Facet pumps are electric (not pulse) and come in 2 or 3 different psi
ranges. The psi of each pump is fixed. If you hook them up in series, it is
my understanding that the pressures are additive. If they are connected in
parallel the pressure downstream will not be additive. In other words series
= 5 plus 5 Parallel = 5 Someone else can explain why...........

Does this mean that pumps in parallel will supply twice flow rate ?

Steve, squelch control is something extremely simple: you cut some of the amplitude
of the signal to get rid of the background noise. A simple transistor can
do that. I don't think you'll find radios with "good squelch" and "poor squelch"
control.
What surprises me is that you write that your squelch is already to the maximum
value. If it is, you shouldn't hear anything but the nearest and strongest signal.
I think there is nothing wrong with your radio, other than it picks some radio-frequency
interferences, which is something you can't eliminate with the squelch
control.
Cheers,
Michel
