As far as i understand the exhaust from skystar is just cut and rewelded in
a different configuration than factory to get the right angles to fit in the
cowling. The length is the same though from manifold to exhaust can . I
measured my new one against the skystar one and the length was the same . So
i sent my new un modified exhaust back to lockwood for a credit . My exhaust
also is close to the cowling right at the front edge main /rear edge of the
front round piece ,1/2 inch have had no problems in 500 plus hours of flight

I need a solution for you electrical fellers out there.
I have a model 4, with a 552 blue head. It's wired so that the Hobbs meter starts
running as soon as the master switch is turned on. I want the Hobbs to run
only when the engine is running. Which wire do I hook the Hobbs to, so that
this is accomplished?
Second question.....I have a heater installed and am wondering which hoses to hook
into, so that the coolant is circulated from the head side of the system,
to achive the best heat from the heater? It would seem that the circulation
should be before the thermostat opens and allows the the coolant to go through
the radiator. But it all depends on which way the coolant is circulating, so
as to get the circulation from the water pump to feed through the heater.
Now that I've confused the issue so no one can understand what the dickens I'm
talking about............
Herb

Hi Herb,
Don't hook in before the thermostat. You want the 582 to warm up quick.
The coolant flow is from the head outlet to the radiator and then back to
the coolant pump.
I hooked my heater in where the coolant hose was close to the firewall, for
the heater inlet.
The heater outlet hooked into the return from radiator hose between the
firewall and the filler area.
I installed a Ford truck valve (from NAPA) in the heater inlet hose inside
the cockpit with a cheap push pull cable attached. This gave me great
controll over cockpit heat.
One day in hot air with my brother, we had to use the cabin heater to help
cool the 582 during climbout. Also had to open cabin doors to keep from
roasting us!
Cheers,

I was just up north and visited with a guy that will be putting a Lucas 2023 APU
turbine engine in his kitfox. He is nearing completion of the model 4-1200 and
did a run with the engine and prop on a bench for me this morning. It sounded
and looked great! He says that it will put out about 90hp. I have no experience
with jet engines and I was surprised at how simple it was. He made his own
gearbox and has a IVO prop. He might be changing the prop at a later date. Is
there any other kitfox with a turbine installed???

I hope someone will answer your question, Herb, because ... I am asking myself
the same thing. I have, sort of, been thinking about it. I think I remember my
regulator as two DC 12v outputs. Maybe I can connect one to the Hobbs meter,
but I am not sure. I have a Jabiru engine but I guess it is the same for all
engines, to register the engine running, and only that, you have to pick the
feeding power before the regulator ... or, whatever comes out of the regulator
that is not connected to the battery.
I await impatiently the answer from an expert.
Cheers,
Michel

I have not seen a turbine on a Fox, but I sure have fantasized about it!
Take off in 50 feet, land in 20 feet with full power reverse thrust! Bring
that one to any spot landing contest.

Howard:
The number 1 cylinder as you're sitting in the cockpit is the rear cylinder
on the left. (When mounted in a car it would be the front cylinder on the
right). I hope this helps. Incidentally, there's a Subaru group on Yahoo
which can be quite helpful.

Lowell, Rex
Thanks for your input. My 912 came with a Ducati regulator 343620. There is
mention on the Aeroelectric list that the Ducati regulators are prone to
fail due to overheating, but I have not heard of such a problem in the
Kitfox circles. Anyone with experience in this regard? It looks like I will
need some kind of load if I'm to use the ALT switch.

Hello Fox Fans,
I've decided to configure my model 5 for landing gear initially and have
fabricated the fabric reinforcement plate but need some guidance as to its
proper location. The manual shows the shock cord nicopress slot facing aft
but is the plate centered on the tube that supports the gear? I will have to
cover the cut-outs when on floats, but that doesn't seem like a big deal.
