I tried to iron mine a little in one tiny spot... NOT!!! I wouldn't
recommend it. It just rakes up the coating, leaving a mess. Remember the
little cartoon guy hanging himself next to the caution? Hey, don't feel
bad...it could happen to anyone. When you sand, try to stay off the
tapes, seams and stitch puckers. As far as fixing what you've
got...that's going to be pretty tough. If it really looks bad, try to
use MEK to strip off the coatings and tapes and start over.

Well, I just had to go a bit too far.... I gently sanded (like a bear)
my poly-brush surface tapes to ensure a smooth edge. I went too far and
upon sraying the poly-brush, the "sanded" strands can be seen. I was
told to go ahead and spray the poly spray (silver) and that should take
care of it. I used a whole quart on the elevator and it hasn't gone
down or otherwise hide my scratchings yet. I have not sanded the silver
yet, as it needs to dry overnight. I don't know if it will go away
after sanding, but I wanted to get some opinions on how to fix my
blunder so I don't loose more time.
Thanks in advance.

I use RCBS powder scales.
Make a hook from a hanger with a loop that holds a little plastic 6 oz.
cup that I get at the grocery. This combo weighs about 60 grains. Add
200+- grains of the black and then match that with the white (it is easier
to pick out the white). Another way to explain would be, balance at 60
move scale to 260, balance with black, move scale to 460, balance with
white.
Works for me.

I'm wondering if you gents are talking about ironing after the spray coat of
Polybrush? That's hard work.
Normally, you can iron all you want with no problem right after applying the
finish tapes. Brush coat the entire surface with polybrush at 3:1 then
apply the tapes, then a 50/50 thinned polybrush coat on the tapes alone, and
iron the pee out of the edges at between 200 & 225F. Gotta watch as you get
to 225F or the tape will shrink. Then I apply another 50/50 coat with a
final ironing on the pinked edges and it's done. Then the spray coat of
Polybrush. I've never had an issue with a lifted edge or pinholes in the
tapes. Very little wet sanding of the edges after the 2 coats of Polyspray.
I remember it well as I'm just finishing the fabric on my Nieuport.

Thanks for all the help. I sanded the elevator with 400, then 320. (backwards
I know, but the 400 was too fine initially) Now that it is sanded, it looks like
it will be ok. Boy, that stuff is tuff. I need to spray more silver and
resand, but I don't think I'll have to recover it.
Thanks again for all your help.

Dear Listers,
I will be upgrading the Matronics Email Server this weekend. This includes
some hardware improvements - more memory, faster, more capable processors -
as well as a complete operating system upgrade from scratch. I hope to
have both the old system and the new system running at the same time to
minimize the actual impact of the upgrade.
Hopefully there will be little actual downtime during the transition, but a
few posts may get lost in the shuffle. If you don't see your post show up
on the List in the normal amount of time (plus a little bit), then please
just try posting it again.
Upgrading the Matronics Email Server operating system (from Redhat Linux
7.2 to Redhat Linux WS 4) is a sizeable undertaking and requires a great
deal of work to port all of the utilities, programs, and scripts over to
the new system. As I've already mentioned, both the old and new systems
will be on line at the same time, so interruption should be held to an
absolute minimal. You might see a couple of odd test messages during the
cut-over or other odd messages; please just ignore them.
I have setup a new System Status Web Page that I will use to update List
Members on the current status of the email and web systems. Please refer
to it as often as you like:

Thank you for your continued support of the List Services at

Larry,
Make sure you have enough silver that a bright light won't shine through
it. Other wise, UV's will get to the fabric and then you have a bigger
problem.

Hi Roger,
Now....where do we start?
The plugs on your 912S are 12mm. So, if there was room to put a probe under
the plug then that is the size you would need. Unfortunately, there is not
enough room to stick a probe under the plug then bend the cable tang up
along side the plug. The spark plugs are set quite deep into the cylinder
head and there is just enough room to put a socket wrench on, let alone a
CHT lead.
Rotax supplies a cylinder head sensor with each engine. It is configured to
mate up with a VDO gauge and is located on the front cylinder (number two
(2))of the engine.
You may have to get the manufacturer of the quad gauge to reconfigure his
gauge to work with the VDO sensor or supply you with a sensor that fits into
the same location as the factory supplied sensor.
I'm pretty sure this isn't the info you wanted to hear, but........
If anyone has figured out how to put a cht sensor under a 912 plug (without
grinding or machining) please let me know
I have a 912 head on my desk as I type and I just don't see a way to do it!

Hi Bob,
Thanks for the info. Your right that is not what I really needed to
here. I am using the rear sensor sense my engine will be in a tractor
configuration. Here is my next question. If this sensor you talk about is
for the CHT, where and what type of sensor does one use for the coolant
temp?? Maybe someone who has installed and is using the Quad Gage from
Westech will chime in. Or is CHT and coolant temp pretty much the same sense
the heads are liquid cooled? Do I even need a coolant temp gage? Now I'm
really confused.
Roger

Roger,
The 912 series doesn't really have a spot for a coolant sensor.
You are correct that the head temp and coolant are one and the same.
We use a 0-250 degree VDO coolant gauge to go with that sensor. The gauge we
use is not marked ats coolant..it's a simple 0-250 degree gauge from VDO.
It's really a head temp rather than a coolant temp.. Don't worry, if your
coolant temps go up so will the head temp. That sensor on the heads goes into
a blind chamber so it only reads the metal temps not the actual coolant.
You are correct that you should be using the rear cylinder on a cowled tractor
engine for your temp reading...In theory, it should be the hottest and that is
what you want.
Like you said, maybe one of the other "foxers" have solved this problem.
