When the kitfox is slipped the fuel is pushed from one wing tank to the
other. Without check valves in the wing fuel lines I don't see how you can
avoid that. Generally this spillage only happens when the tanks are near
full. One way to counter it is to slip half way in one direction then swap
to the other direction. So long as you don't surprise him/her the passenger
will be duly impressed.

Lowrance will not support thier model 300 GPS which was still available new in
2002.There is no way to update the Jepp Database, and they offer no appolgies. However
they do offer about $100.00 bucks or so if you send it back to them as
a trade in on a new unit.If anyone knows a way to update the 300 database there
are thousands of us out here that need it.I do like the Lowrance GPS I just
don't like how they have abandoned thier customers. Since this experiance I have
researched the handheld GPS companies and I have desided that my next GPS will
be a Garmin.Don't archive. Cliff

Michel, I have had good success with a simple fix for this. The first thing I found
was the vents on the fuel caps were ported very differently. When you blew
air through them from your mouth you could hardly get air thru one and the other
was wide open. I drilled the obstruction out so they freely allowed the air
thru. I purchased some nipples from the auto parts store that were built for
plugging vacuum systems on carbs. I drilled a 1/16" dia. hole in each and pushed
them on the tank vents. I also installed a good check valve vent on the header
tank. This has stopped the fuel from running out on the wings when slipping
and flying slightly uncoordinated. At least it has worked well for me. Have
a nice day.

Dee,
You have two separate feeds into your header tank? And two check valves,
one on each tank line? And each check valve is vented? Hmmmm, trying to
picture this............
More info for this neophyte fuel system installer. Any filters anywhere on
your system? Looks like you are using the 582, yes, no?

When I have a non-pilot passenger, I try to fly like an airliner, Deke. No need
to scare people. But since you talk about check valves, has anyone tried that?

Michel,
Are you leaking fuel from the caps or from the "pitot" breathers? If it is
from the caps, check to see that the vent holes in the caps are sealed and
Mercedes has a fuel cap gasket that will solve the leaking gasket problem.
I lost all my e-mail files with a serious crash, but I am sure someone on
the list will come up with a part number.

Subject: Kitfox-List: Tach
--> Kitfox-List message posted by: Alan Daniels <aldaniels@fmtc.com>
My plane has a 912S with a Rotax tach. The tach worked normal on the
ground and for the first few minutes of flight. The it would start
jumping up - just kind of flick up a few hundred RPM - but not in any
pattern or associated with anything I could find. The longer I few the
worse it got until it just pegged in the red. I have a fixed pitch prop
and all indications were that the engine was fine and the was just the
tach. I checked all the wiring and assumed I had a bad tach. I called
Lookwood and talked to the person in the know and he said in something
like 95% of the time it is that the sensor on the engine is too far away
from the lobe that triggers it. There are 5 pickups, 2 on the right side
and 3 on the left side on the back of the engine. They are the little
black things at about 2 & 4 and 8 & 10 o'clock or close the that. The
left side has one more a little higher up that is not connected to the
wire loom, but has its own wire. That pickup drives the tach. It should
be something like 18 thousands of an inch from the lobe. He said there
is no adjustment so you just have to bend it in a little. Be careful
because if you bend it in too much the lobe will wipe it right off.
Also be aware that there are two sets of lobes on the flywheel. I used
the aft lobe, but I think it picks up on the front one. I used one layer
of business card as go and two layers as no go. I only moved mine about
10 thousands or a little more. Then you want to carefully turn the prop
by hand and make sure you did not go too far. When you bent the pickup
closer do not push on the sensor itself, but rather the mounting
bracket. Use a light and a mirror and make sure you have clearance to
both lobes. This solved my problem. He said it is normal for the
problem to be worse at higher RPM and also when it gets hot.
I hope this helps someone.
Alan

Some may not like what I'm going to say, but take a fine file and flat file
the opening for the tank. Not only will you get ride of the high spots and
make a better seal, but the cap will go on much easier as well.

Guy it's a vacuum check valve such as sold in auto parts houses and used on carburetors.
It allows the air into the header tank but will not allow fuel to come
out. It is ported thru the wind screen on pilots side at the highest point.
Its about the size of a nickel with a nipple on each side for a vacuum line to
push on.
