    Subject: Skystar Visit
    From: "Harry Tucker" <harry@jts.co.uk>
--> Kitfox-List message posted by: "Harry Tucker" <harry@jts.co.uk> Hi We are selling kitfox kits down here in South Africa and we have had "quite a few problems" with getting orders delivered etc etc etc over the last year. I try to speak to Frank on a weekly basis to ensure that our moneys and orders are safe. He has been very busy recently but he did get time to talk to me last week and advised that he had now completed the investment with some "group of kitfox owners" but he would not tell me anymore. I hope things get better soon as we have found it almost impossible to run a business down here in SA where we are meant to be representing Skystar and to do this very little communication from Skystar sometimes we go without a return of email and phone calls for 6 weeks. I would love to find out who the investors are so that I could find out what their intentions are. Please advise and or keep me in the loop Harry Tucker PO Box 2830, White River 1240 South Africa Tel ++ 27 13 751 5018 Fax:++ 27 11 507 5339 Email: harry@htucker.com -----Original Message----- From: owner-kitfox-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-kitfox-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Don Pearsall Subject: RE: Kitfox-List: Skystar Visit --> Kitfox-List message posted by: "Don Pearsall" <donpearsall@comcast.net> Good report, Lowell, thanks for sharing your visit with us. A while back, Frank reported to the list that he had some investors interested in helping the company financially. Did you discuss that with Frank? What is the status of their expansion plans? Right now they are still in skeleton mode, which makes it tough to get new business and grow. Don Pearsall -----Original Message----- From: owner-kitfox-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-kitfox-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Lowell Fitt Subject: Kitfox-List: Skystar Visit --> Kitfox-List message posted by: "Lowell Fitt" <lcfitt@sbcglobal.net> Just back today from a visit to Caldwell and Skystar. Went to visit a friend that is interested in relocating to South Western Idaho. I am really optimistic about what Frank and Crystal have done there. Frank seems to be rather passionate about the airplanes and most importantly the builder / owners. More than once he talked about the importance of the customer base to Skystar's future success. They have definitely gone the extra mile to rebuild the company with customer service a top priority. Most of our irritations have been addressed and things will soon be in place to rectify the complaints some have registered in the past. I believe that those of us flying and more importantly those of us that are building or thinking of building and even those who have bought or are contemplating buying an existing Kitfox and need a strong company to service our needs, have a strong advocate in the company and it helps that he's the boss. I wish I could prevent that. Any idea? Michel, I solved this problem by adding check valves to the fuel cap vents. I purchased new unvented fuel caps from a local auto parts suppler (NAPA) and modified a couple of Andair check valves (Aircraft Spruce) to free flow in either direction until fuel is present. Here are links to photos of my mods and to the Andair site. Contact me for additional details if you have an interests in this modification. http://eaa145.org/page8.html http://www.andair.co.uk/system/index.html Bill W. do not archive

--> Kitfox-List message posted by: "Clem Nichols" <cnichols@scrtc.com> I read somewhere that the Lowrance units did not include private airstrips. This could obviously be a problem if you were in trouble, and had to go to the "Nearest Field". You could be directed to a public field 50 miles away when there was a private field within 4 or 5 miles. Supposedly Lowrance doesn't want to intrude on anyone's privacy, although if the field is listed with the FAA and shows up on sectionals this not seem to be a significant intrusion. Can anyone on the list tell me if this information is correct? Thanks for your response. Clem Nichols Do Not Archive

This is the important question, Lowell. I am not sure but looking at the stains, it seems to me that they start too close to the cap to be spilled from the breathers. Changing my gaskets that look to be slightly cracked here and there, should be my first attemp. I'll ask in a Mercedes store. If not, I am sure I can cut such gaskets out of rubber. I think the softer rubber the best, right? Steve, filing flat the opening would certainly help. But I am not sure I'd dare file metal even with a cloth over the hole. It sounds risky. Bill and Dee, yes, I'll try a check valve if the problem persists after changing the gaskets. Thanks for the link, Bill. Cheers, Michel

I purchased a couple of these from an after-market supplier, so I can't be certain if these are Mercedes part numbers or the suppliers (and I can't remember who I bought them from....just found them through Google). Other numbers listed on the bag were 209000 04/03. I hope this helps. --> Kitfox-List message posted by: "Ben Baltrusaitis" <ben@gmpexpress.net> Here is an email I saved from a fuel cap discussion on Jan. 12th. I hope this is what you need. Ben: --> Kitfox-List message posted by: "Rex & Jan Shaw" <rexjan@bigpond.com> I don't know about a better cap, but a couple of years back a list member bought a bunch or Mercedes Benz gas caps that he made available to fellow listers for a small fee. They work great. Guys the Mercedes Fuel cap gasket is P/N 140-471-00-79 Also under E2060-124896 It is listed as a hard seal 58x37.5x2.5. Costs about $2 I could not seem to buy just the gasket in Australia. Would have had to get the whole cap. However look on the net. Just put the part No in your chosen search engine and it will come up in a few places in USA. I finished up using 3mm fuel grade insertion rubber and made my own. I was getting problems because I fill to the top but now I don't leak a drop. Rex. DO NOT ARCHIVE
