I'm finally finishing a Kitfox IV with a Subaru EA-81. The Ellison throttle
body requires 1/2psi to 3psi. My Facet fuel pump output is 4psi to 6psi. I
cannot find a pump with suitable pressure. Is this of concern? Any info from
other Ellison or Subaru users would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Bud,
I use an Ellison on a Lycoming 0-235, our pump is like yours; 4-6 psi. This
seems to work fine. I use it only on takeoff and landing or when doing a
steep climb. The carb works fine on gravity flow. I have even forgotten to
turn on the pump for takeoff before, no problem, the Ellison still worked
fine.
Our Ellison is at the bottom of the engine, your mileage may vary...

Hi Bud,
Facet 40105 is 2.5-4.5 psi, 1/8x27 internal pipe fittings, $28.60 at
Aircraft Spruce.

Bud:
My IV also has the Subaru EA81 with the Ellison TBI setup and the Facet fuel
pump at 4 to 6psi. The only problem I've had is that I've had to replace
the pump twice in the past 50 hours. Fortunately when the pump quits
there's enough fuel flow from gravity alone to keep the engine
running...just not enough for take-off and climb. As far as the Ellison TBI
system is concerned, there seems to have been no ill effects from operating
at the higher pressure. The question I have never been able to resolve
completely has to do with which gasoline to use. Ellison says use LL100
only (because additives can damage some of the TBI's internal components).
On the other hand, lead buildup on the valves can lead to a premature loss
of compression. One solution is to use an additive such as TCP which is
available from John McBeam on this list, and the other which I've found to
be satisfactory at least until now is to use 93 octane and always use the
water test to check for the presence of ethanol. I hope this helps. Also
you can go to their website at www.ellison-tbi.com for additional info.
Regards,
Clem Nichols

I'll second Steve here, Rick. I needed a more powerful battery to start my new
Jabiru and I must say that the power/weight ratio of the Odyssey battery is awesome.

Michel

I do, Kurt. And I must admit that their endurance is much better than what they
sound like. Today, when I hear my old 582 being fired in our club's Rans plane,
I wonder how I dared to fly such a noisy engine. Still, it is now way over 300
hours and still going strong.
There was a moment I was tempted to change my old 582 for a new blue top. But I
feel the Jabiru is more suited for the old man I am. Victor Hugo, as an old
man, said once (and talking about something entirely different) that if young
men were doing if often, older men were doing it longer. It's the way I feel
about the Jabiru. :-)
> Any new Jabber performance numbers you can report?
It would mean that I'd have to write numbers on a piece of paper, right? All I
can say is that all dials are in the green sector, the plane feels good, climbs
well and keeps a decent cruise speed. At level, WOT brings me to Vne. Is there
more to ask from an engine?
> I am still waiting to see if you can reduce the size of
> your cowl outlet door and fly in summer temps.
This is a very puzzling question, Kurt. I have already reduced a couple of
inches without noticing a higher CHT. I have installed a cowl flap that covers
75% of the outlet and, once closed, I don't notice a difference in the CHT,
which is pretty low, at the bottom of the green sector (100 C) at cruise speed.
I dare not close entirely the outlet because I read about someone who blew open
his cowling by doing that, since it then gets very high pressured.
My next move (but after my summer southern trip) will be to cut entirely the
outlet scoop and replace it by a moveable one. I figure that, while I reduce
the outlet, the scoop still creates the low pressure that sucks air out of the
25% left open. The proper way would then be to close the entire scoop. What do
you think?
Cheers,
Michel

I am real happy with the one year (almost) behind me with the Odyssey 625.
I saved some weight by not using a battery box. These batteries can be
mounted in any position.
Light and powerful. Works great.

A fellow kitfoxer just gave me his wheel pants from his kitfox.
They are still in the rough and need to be made to fit. The
problem I have is that he has the instructions are to fit the
wheel pants to his standard gear. I have the aluminum spring gear
on my speedster. Does anyone have a copy of the installation
instructions for this type of gear?
Thanks

Then go here for a good price!
https://www.batteries4everything.com/index.html
Sonex builders go here for Jabiru and AeroVee batteries - Odessy 625 or 680.
I have the 625 for my Jab 3300, and it's still very strong after 2 winters.
Holds charge extremely well.

Forgot to mention, use the telephone number on the web page, call and ask
for the Odessy 625.
