Andrew,
I have the half windows on my doors. During the hot summer months, I
remove the top
Lexan half and leave the bottom fiberglass part. Gives you some great fresh
air without having to remove the whole door. Also, it's not that windy.
Some passengers might not like the doors removed or even open.

After a few days of testing the Kitfox IV
- weight- full fuel - pilot
500 + 140 + 220 = 860 lbs
I think the best will be about 15 1/2 degree over all.
I don't need 104 mph more than the higher rate of climb
Besides i don't think a 582 give till 6200 to 6500
And running with a 17 degree pitch will possibly be luggin engine.
In this case some more extensive testing could be done with all the
variables or possibly a CAP prop.
But I am not certain the 582 power band is actaully wide enought to
utilize the in flight adjustable. ( maybe some one could confirm the
power band)
Plus i think the decibels will be louder with a 2 blade prop over a 3
blader and mine is pretty quiet now.
I was out this AM for 1 hr 20 mins and burnt 5 gals gas about
3.75 gal/hr IMPERIAL and i was running a heavy 15 3/4 pitch
(actually 15 3/4 to 7/8s )
Also does anyone adjust pitch for seasons ? thinner air in summer
etc ?
Open for questions and answers. And how do these numbers relate to
others? This one a 582 C box 3:1 and 68" GSC narrow tip ground
adjustable
Kirby ........
All this done about 55 to 75 Deg F
15
static 6400
WOT 6600
6000 92 to 94
5700 88
15 3/4
Static 6100

6000 = 97
5700 = 92

A couple of times I've been cruisin' around the
pattern and had my port side door fly open.
Typically after I've done some serious slips when I
haven't gotten the door handle turned completely.
The pins work loose. Talk about exciting!
Everything is normal and you're concentrating on
talking to the tower and the upcoming landing and all
of a sudden everything gets all windy and loud! You
know deep down that you can't fall out but that
sudden rush of wind seems to overcome the thought
process for a second raising a significant pucker

DEKE's Model V with the NSI engine is Very Nice.
Hi Deke. I saw your beautiful plane in the July Issue of the Kit Plane
Magazine with a good article. It looks like you did an excellent job
building it. I really like the colors.

Flew a Just Aircraft "Highlander" last week with that prop and a 912s.
Seemed to really perform as we were able to maintain a 1200 fpm climb rate
with 2 people and full fuel. Showed 102 ias at 5200 rpm. Ran very smooth,
and is very quiet when it flies by. Cockpit noise was high but then again
their was a lot of cabin wind leaks and the exhaust on this airplane runs a
muffer and pipe off each side, and I think it also contributed to cabin
noise.
Unfortunately because it wasn't a Kitfox the information here is probably of
little value to most here. But I can attest to the fact that the prop
performed well and ran smooth.

Absolutely. Up here in the north country there's a wide temperature range
between the winter and summer months that has a significant effect on prop
bite. I always added pitch in the spring and reduced it in the late fall.
At the same time I also changed jets, both the idle and main.

Hi Deke,
The magazine content is also online (it's a subscription service - not sure
how much), but you also have access to a bunch of past articles in the
archives as well. The articles are all viewable PDFs.
best, Cory

--> Kitfox-List message posted by: "Russell Marsolek" <rmarsole@luminet.net>
Good afternoon:
This is my first post on this list, and I am doing it for a friend. He owns
a Kitfox while I fly a Powered Parachute. We both have 582 Rotax, blue
heads. He just put this one in as he use to have the grey head.
He hits 185+ degrees coolant temp while I stay right around 155 or so. We
believe that standard working temp is 145 - 175.
So how does he get his temp down? I am very surprised at the small radiator
on the Kitfox. We bled the lines, checked out the thermostat, exchanged the
radiator cap etc. What next?
Thanks in advance for your help!

I saw the article also, but was disapointed to not see a photo of the
builder. It was good to see the airplane - looks nice. But I will still
wonder if the builder looks as good.

could be many things... I had an issue and found I had a bit too much
Dextrol, make sure no more than 50% and use distilled...
good luck!
