Jeremy,
I have an original Model V windshield, never used. I live in the DC
area.
It's yours for free, you just need to pick it up. FYI, it's too
expensive to
ship so that's not really an option.

Yesterday there was a complete tube main gear set for sale on e-bay. It's for a
Model 5. I don't know if it will fit your Model 1. Maybe somebody else on the

Does anyone have a right handed strut that would fit a Model 1. I did a
ground loop and the strut collasped under the plane. The tail wheel went to
one side causing this. did not do damage to wing. Any help would be
appriciated. I live in Northern Michigan. Thank you. Mike

Thank you, Ben. A good story, indeed. But, as Rex points out: not a true one.
The first time I heard it, it was the USS Nimitz and the lighthouse was the
Royal Sovereign, off the English coast, in the Channel. This could have been
true because the Royal Sovereign, previously a lightship, is now a tower, off
the shore.
But any seafarer would know that the story is most likely to be untrue because,
if the carrier didn't had a view of the "vessel," it means it was it on the
radar. And any modern radar with ARPA (Automatic Radar Plotting Aid) would
vectorize the "vessel" as not moving.
It doesn't make sense to ask a vessel at anchor to change course! Although I
remember the night I sailed into Borkum, at the border of The Netherlands and
Germany. It was a dark night, much wind and much current in the estuary. Trying
to cross the shipping lane, I saw a large barge going upstream and waited, not
wanting to cross her bow. It took me several minutes to realize she was
anchored in a 3 knots current!
BTW, I am just back from a few days sailing to Sweden. My wife and I went to
meet our son and celebrate midsummer night together.
Cheers,
Michel

A friend of mine is finishing an Ellipse - Closest thing to a four place
Kitfox, also designed by Dean Wilson. It is covered and has several coats
of Butyrate dope on it.
The question is can Polyfiber be used on top of this?
For more info on the ellipse, see:

Does anyone have experience with both size tires on their kitfox? I own a Model
III / 912S that has a set of McCreary 8.00x6 tires and 95% of my operation will
be from unimproved grass/dirt strips. I was told that the 8.50x6 will handle
the gopher holes and rocks much better. Is this really the case or is the
difference not that noticeable. The reason I ask is that my 8.00x6 only have
about 7 hours on them (I bought the plane with recently and the previous owner
had just put them on). Any information would be appreciated.

What are you guys using for fresh air venting in your kitfoxes? I have a pair
of the Vista vents to install but I have the LP Aeroplastics bubble doors and
there is not an area flat enough to mount them. I have thought of putting them
in the skylight but then you have the rain issues. I am in Utah and it can
get pretty hot down here especially when sitting in that greenhouse I call 323MM.
I don't really like flying with my doors off and I have tried using bungees
to hold the door open a couple of inches. Does anyone have a better idea or
a differnt vent I can use? I would love to install some adjustable vents in
the panel like in certified airplanes but would hate to undertake this project
if there was a better option. Any advice or photos of your installation would
be appreciated. Thanks,

Darin,
I had a Model IV with the door turn latches in the center of the bottom
rail, I added another tab to the inside of the latch that allowed me to
either close the door completely or latch the door about 3/4" open, it
worked great! Had them on both doors. Plane was sold so sorry, no pics
available.

I installed the Vista-vents on the LP doors. There is a area roughly
approximating a flat spot about chest height and about 6" from the front
edge (if I recall correctly). I installed mine there and it works very
well. I promised someone a photo of this about a month ago...give me a
couple more days and I'll post it.

Guys, I believe thast ROTAX says 300 max drop @ 4000 rpm but i stand
to be corrected..
The Regulator has nothing that i know of to do with cdi ignition as it
is part of the charging system being a regualtor and a Rectifier. But
I stand to be corrected.
Personally I thing you are in specs and no need for concern.
I have a 582 and usually it drops about 300 RPM on one side. I seem to
remember Rotax saying this is normal. Looking at it from an electronic
technician viewpoint that I am I think you will find you are not really
dropping those revs. What is happening is the the alternator [ ie:- the
windings in the motor ] contains basically 3 coils or windings. Now 2 of
these are for the ignition circuits. One for left and one for right. The 3rd
winding is for charging and so has nothing to do with the ignition or
tacho.so I can't see how the tacho would be affected by the regulator except
just maybe if you had a tacho that took power from your 12 volt rail [ ie:-
battery ] Now let's get back on track here. The tacho is fed from one only
ignition winding and when the ignition switch is closed [ ie:- turned off ]
on this ignition it modifies the pulse fed to the tacho showing the RPM
drop. However this is a false reading, it is most likely not actually a RPM
drop. I believe this is why Rotax specify 300 RPM is normal as this amount
is accounted for due to switching that ignition off. Any significant
increased RPM drop though may well indicate some problem of some sort and
should be checked out. Most likely poor ignition on the other ciruit for
some reason. It might just be plugs but don't be concerned about a 300 RPM
drop. This is normal and most likely is not truly a drop. If you're not
convinced check your revs independant of your tacho with a strobe while you
swich ignitions. I guess really the system is a poor design in this respect.
In actual fact you probably would do better to close your eyes while you
switch ignitions and just listen to any change. Bear in mind some slight
drop on either side when turning off one ignition is reasonable and yes if
your ignitions are working really well you may not even detect a change at
all. I achieve this situation most of the time by using iridium plugs [
BR8EIX with non resistor caps ] but after a lot of taxi-ing I may not. This
is because a 582 is usually running rich down low and plugs start to foul
up. Just pull a plug after high RPM and after a low RPM extended taxi and
have a look.

Anyone have the fron tire size handy for the Chinshin lawn mower tire
I don't have the Chengshin brand of lawnmower tyre but instead have Goodyear
Lawnmower or Golf Buggy tyres and they are 18 x 6.50 x 8 They are rounded
with a very mild tread pattern. They don't tend to rub in the wheel pants
like the original buffed down ATV tyres. They are 4 ply instead of 2 ply.
You can get tubes for them which I needed due to slow leakage where the
brake disc lugs were welded on to the rim. This had caused very slight
distortion on the inside of the rim. I run 14 PSI in them and think they are
great.

I kind of doubt that he has much though. Someone else started it and he is
finishing it. It is a neat plane. 37.5' wing span, 155 mph cruise with 150
hp engine. The wings fold like a Kitfox, but it has a neat way of
decoupling the ailerons so there is nothing to disconnect when the wings are
folded. The back seats fold down for long cargo. The only other thing that
is really different than a Fox is that the wing is not a Hersey bar, but has
tapered tips and is covered with plywood with 45 degree layers.
Of course an 1100 foot take off roll is a little "unfox" like.

Sorry to be bombarding you guys with questions but this is the best place to get
info on kitfoxes (obviously). This question has to do with landing lights.
I know blueskyaviation.com makes a set for the tips of the speed wing but I have
the droop tips and have yet to find lights made for this. I have looked into
the XeVision landing light and they would be great but they are $$$! Has
anyone tried halogen fog lights for cars? I know they aren't spotlights but they
do put out a fairly good amount of light, at least enough to aide in taxi
and landing. What do you guys think, or what have you used?

Randy, A local on a Stearman project used polyfiber over Randolph and it
looked great. the only problem is that the finished didn't bond and when
flying the Polyfiber ballooned up in large bubbles on the tops of the
wings - 2 ft square.
I wouldn't try mixing systems.

While we are in this "swap meet" mode, let me toss in my contribution:
I have a set of new Series 7 flaperons--the new ones
with the high-lift, asymmetrical airfoil--that I would
like to trade for a set of Series 5 or 6 flaperons
(the symmetrical ones). My understanding is that these
flaperons can be used on the Model IV, and Series 5, 6
or 7 Kitfox wings.
