I have a NEW 582 motor mount (fastens to the sides of the engine) for sale for
$200.00, plus freight. I bought it for my model II engine change, then realized
that my existing mount had to remain due to the fact that the cowling fastens
to the rods built into the old mount (plate type mount). email pictures available
to prospective buyers!!

While we are in this "swap meet" mode, let me toss in my contribution:
I have a set of new Series 7 flaperons--the new ones
with the high-lift, asymmetrical airfoil--that I would
like to trade for a set of Series 5 or 6 flaperons
(the symmetrical ones). My understanding is that these
flaperons can be used on the Model IV, and Series 5, 6
or 7 Kitfox wings.
If you've been considering the upgrade to the new flaperons for your
Kitfox, drop me a line!

Absolutely. And if you contact me off line I will sell you mine. I want the
296, more money but has terrain avoidance and a few other esoteric features.
If you are going to buy new then get the 296, don't think you will be
disappointed. turboflyer@comcast.net

Dean we bought 2 NASA inlets from AC Spruce, cut the appropriate holes in
the bottom half of the smooth cowl, towards the rear i.e. between the
firewall and the door. We glassed them in, and then ran flexibile hosing
from the inlets up to auto eyeball type vents, one mounted in each bottom
corner of the instrument panel. It sure looks good but we will only know how
it works when we fly. Maybe in a month or so. Of course it means reaching
under the instrument panel to disconnect the hose when removing the bottom
cowl but this is easily done just by hand. I don't think I have any photos
of this but will take one. I would also like to have glider type vents in
the windows but we just have not got around to this. Kerry. Kifox builders

Ben. I have the 295 and love it. The only drawbacks is it is hard on batterys.
I get about 2.5 hrs on 6 AA batteries. The screen on external power is better
IMHO than some of the newer units.

Kerry and Dean, my Model 5 has these AC Spruce vents mounted in the center of
the panel. They put out lots of air and have adjustable flow direction. I can
have the air blow right in my face or not on me at all.
Unhooking the pilot side is difficult because of hardware, however the co-pilot
side comes off easily. Access is gained when the top cowl is removed. I don't
have to crawl under the panel.

Aircraft Spruce also sells a NACA air vent that opens into the cockpit directly
(thru the side of the cowling as it seals the cockpit) with a panel in the vent
that opens and closes from inside. I'm putting it together now and will install
over the next week, so can't comment yet on how it works, but it will be
simpler to install than one needing tubing directed to the panel.

Depending on the serial number the TBO is 1500 I believe...check with
one of the ROTAX shops or the Rotax website...
For the record a buddy of mine, (RANS S7 flyer) has approx. 2300 hours
on his 80hp 912 right now...has been checked out and was well within
tolerances...he says it is starting to use a little oil...very little as
opposed to none for the first 2000 hours.
He is the S7 that you see at Sun-n-Fun every year with the vinyl decal
on the rudder of the little Calvin carton guy whizzing on a Kitfox
emblem. Believe me, it's all in good fun...kinda a FORD vs. CHEVY
thing. I believe the first year he brought the plane to Sun-n-Fun for
judging, he got second place overall to a Kitfox...He might be holding a
GRUDGE ;-)

David, I have heard rumors that the 295 screen (on external power) is
actually brighter than the 296 screen (on external power). Especially
in bright sunlight. The sunlight doesn't have to be shining directly on
the screen, but if ambient light in the cockpit is very bright, then
the 295 looks clearer and easier to read than the 296. Anybody know if
this is true?

The TBO for the 912 Series engines is 1500 hours (914 Series is now 1200 if your lucky enough to have one of these). Here is a link to the US Rotax Distributors page about the increased TBO: http://www.rotax-owner.com/newsintro.htm. I think it list the service letter designation is the press release if you want to read more specifically about the increase.

It was mine, and it's (both sides)on the way to Mike.
I cleaned out the attic and Mike saved a bunch of money.
Thanks, Brett

Michel, that is a great story and you write beautifully. Congratulations on
your flight and on writing the story.
By the way, the story is NOT off topic. Kitfox flying is always on topic.
Thank you for sharing your adventures.

Steve
I would agree. I have never flown with the 296 but have many hours with
the 295 in a 172 and never under any light had any problems viewing the
screen. You do have to dim it considerably at night. I did talk with a
fellow who was looking at the 296 and several other GPS's at Aircraft
Spruce in Griffin, GA. We were outside and the 295 appeared to beat them
all in sunlight. I'll stick with my 295 until it dies. I have it mounted
on the upper middle of my S5 (surface mounted)and can read it well from
all angles, how ever the plane hasn't flown quite yet.
