Anyone have the correct size of the quick drain fuel fittings that are
installed on the bottom of the wing tanks? I am guessing that the size is 3/8--24
but not sure. It would be nice to have the fittings ordered and here when I
change the leaking ones out!
Thanks,
Brad Martin

Maurice, much has been written about trailers here. Use the search function
of the list to find trailer messages and you can read them.
I think the consensus is that converted boat trailers have too stiff of a
ride, and you would need to modify the springs so the ride is not too rough
on the lightweight KF. You can overstress the KF just by going over a bump.
Many builders have made their own trailer, or had them made. If you can't
un-stiffen the trailer's spring, then you should cushion the KF itself.
There are some pics of trailers on the photo page. Go here

"Trailers and towing."

What would you recommend for an open trailer for a series 7?

I haven't seen an answer to your question yet, Dan, so I'll answer to say that
... I don't know. I guess you have the same windscreen and cowling as my model
3 and yes, when it rains, water is coming in between and on the instruments. I
use a duct tape to prevent water coming on my transponder. I have considered
making a gasket of silicon rubber but ... I am still waiting for a better idea.
My Kitfox is hangared and I seldom have it in the rain. Should I be somewhere
else say, overnight, I cover her with a watertight tarpaulin that I made to fit.
Otherwise I also have a Jabiru 2200 with now about 70 hours and I just love it.
Cheers,
Michel

My maritime experience has told me on thing, Joel, that the range of VHF
communication is dramatically increased in an atmosperic high pressure region.
Some years ago, I was in the middle of the North Sea with my sailboat and I
heard on channel 16 the Thames coastguards. That's on the south east coast of
England. Minutes later, I heard Rogaland radio. That's on the south west coast
of Norway! I haven't measured the actual distances but I reckon it is about
four times the average range of VHF frequencies.
Cheers,
Michel

Subject: | Tachometer Cable Length |
--> Kitfox-List message posted by: "Tinne maha" <tinnemaha@hotmail.com>
Hello List,
I'm building a Series5 with a Lyc O-235: I installed the tachometer cable
supplied by Skystar recently and noticed it is about 14" longer than I need
(~36" cable in a ~22" distance.) So I have a loop between the panel & the
F/W. Is this Okay? How are your installations done?
Seems to me a cable with no loops would be better but I'm a little peeved
about the thought of dropping yet another $50. Any thoughts appreciated.
Thanks,
Grant

Brad, I am ot entirely sure the size, but the 3/8 - 24 is not right. I
just looked at mine and my best guess is the 1/8" NTP. You can get new
o-rings from ACS, for alot less $$. I have never had a leaking problem, but
did change one o-ring earlier this year because it just looked bad.

Subject: | Re: New Member and question Cowling / windshield seal |
--> Kitfox-List message posted by: Ceashman@aol.com
Dan. You ask what is the best seal between the cowling and windshield.
I don't know what is the "best". But I had a leaking area between the cowling
and window, as you describe. Nasty when you are at a airport. it rains and
the water runs down over the instruments on to the carpet/floor.
I purchased, from Aircraft Spruce a EPDM Weatherstrip, part # 05-01200. This
is a letter "P" shaped white rubber strip that done the job fantastic.
With everything buttoned up, with a thin felt tip marker. Mark a line on the
outside of the windshield, using the edge of the top cowling as a guide.
Remove the cowling and peel the backing off the P weatherstrip and line up to
the bottom of your felt tip line the hole of the P on top. So' the
weatherstrip is going below the ink line.
I now wash the airplane and no water gets it between the cowling and window.
Other places, but not there anymore. One of these days I will fix the turtle
deck.
It all depends how much room you have between the cowling and the windshield.
No two IV's are the same. The white P strip is 1/4 inch thick at the top of
the P. If you need something that will fill a larger space, try the black "D"
weatherstrip. This is 5/16" thick, part # 05-00897.
If Aircraft Spruce is out of the question. These weatherstrips can be
purchased at a quality hardware store. They are made by M-D BUILDING PRODUCTS.
Greetings. Eric

Grant, If I remember on N-88VJ I just shortened the cable and made it
work. You will want it to have just a little slack for engine movement.
