Should I just use the flaps for trim, or >is that draggy? Certainly using flaperons for trim is "tried and true" on the original Model I - IV Kitfoxes but you'll get better cruise performance using a real trim system. The flaperons present a rather large frontal area and can produce considerable drag at cruise speeds, compared to a trim tab. Mike G. Turbo versions are available also. Gearbox type redrives for around US$1750- The Geo/Suzuki engine uses about half the fuel that the two stroke engines use. The 1.3 litre four cylinder Suzuki engine beats the Rotax 912 in power and weight, again both gearbox and belt type redrives are available. The Geo/Suzuki one litre engine weighs a little more than a Rotax 582, it produces 62 HP normally aspirated but with a better, flatter torque curve. All those advantages plus flying engines with the hours up to prove them and last but not lease, far, far cheaper than a Rotax two or four stroke engine. One person on the group has over 1000 hours on one installation. FlyGeo_uncensored is a very active and helpful group that is also a fun group and is not doubt one of the fastest growing aircraft alternative engine groups. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FlyGeo_uncensored The FlyGeo_uncensored Management ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 09:27:21 AM PST US From: "RAY Gignac" Subject: Re: Kitfox-List: CRACKED MUFFLER! --> Kitfox-List message posted by: "RAY Gignac" Been there done that! was not a skystar modification problem, my break was on the muffler itself below the weld. ----- Original Message ----- From: PWilson To: kitfox-list@matronics.com Sent: Monday, August 08, 2005 6:04 PM Subject: Re: Kitfox-List: CRACKED MUFFLER! --> Kitfox-List message posted by: PWilson > There is a skystar bulletin that says to add a bracket from the pipe to the muffler. Serialize complete at 08/09/2005 12:34:00 PM --> Kitfox-List message posted by: kitfoxjunky My old exhaust, the one that cracked several times, had the modification recommended in the Skystar bulletin. One thing to keep an eye on is the sleeve inside the muffler. You can see it thru the holes in the muffler when the header pipes are removed. This sleeve goes from the exhaust pipe to the other side of the muffler...and fits inside a circular ring that acts as a support bracket. If the sleeve ( which is a thin metal tube with hundreds of perforations ) deteriorates and breaks then there is no support for the exhaust pipe other than where it exits the muffler. That condition usually causes a crack in the muffler where the exhaust pipe exists. I've been flying for 6 years, am instrument rated (though not current), with most of my time in Pipers. I would very much appreciate the ability to fly with someone to get a feel for the plane. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area (California), though am occasionally in Dallas, TX. If you can spare a couple hours to go flying with me, I would be much obliged! Thanks & regards, -- David ________________________________ Message 6 _____________________________________ Time: 12:33:01 PM PST US Subject: Re: Kitfox-List: matco brake pads From: Lynn Matteson --> Kitfox-List message posted by: Lynn Matteson I'd like the numbers too, for future use...thanks a lot. That's what I expected, since the flaperon moment arm is pretty short. I guess I'll have to keep working on the trim system. Does anybody have a good idea on a nice, small, lever actuator? It sounds as though the fabric is not much more involved than the socks, so I am going to order it soon. I hope to give Skystar the business as it may help a little. I have a red powdercoat fuselage so I am thinking a white base with a fade to red on the leading edges. Simple paint scheme and less fading than pure red. Thanks again for the encouragement.
