I haven't done it, but have mentally explored the installation of a fairing
aft of the wheel like I see sometimes on AirCoupes. In my plans, when I was
building, it called for drilling the axle for weight reduction. If you
drilled and tapped the end of the axle, you could use that as an ancher
point.

i thought of that but then again with these hubs for the 8 inch rims we
have the grease cap to contend with. HMMM think ill get some bar stock
aluminum and chuck them up in the lathe and tap the ends and make new
cap/nut /faring thingy's kinda like cessna and others do for the fairing. I
can press in a seal that will ride in the hub and on the new nut face for
the fairing .

I'm checking with the supplier now on the non solid ends. The 912 has NGK
cap that use just the end of the plug with out the additional end. I 'm
about due for new wires has any one switch to wires on a 912UL to non
resister caps or even custom wires like ACCEL or Bosch???

I drilled a 9/16" hole through my grease cup, allowing the 1/2" dia.
tube (which holds the outer support nut) to pass through. To keep
grease from leaking, I cut a 1/2" hole in a 1/2" thick felt seal and
put it inside the grease cup. It is held in place between the end of
the axle and the cup itself. I did this on my Grove gear, but the same
could be done for the bungee gear.

An update on Matco. I opened the package on pads to install and one had a
flaw. I called Matco explained the flaw they asked if I was AOG and said
they would send out right away a new pad. (with all the problems people have
had with MFG lately I wanted to pass this along) Also on the web sight in
Matco service bulletins is the swift line program I mention on getting a set
of pre riveted pads along with other information.

Performance is engineered. My Model IV-1200 Speedster came in at:
660 lbs empty, 1232 lbs max gross, 572 lbs for fuel & pax

With my in-flight adjustable Ivo prop I could cruise at 85 mph all
day at 3.5 gph

I could crank in the throttle and cruise at 125 - 130 mph at 5.5 gph
I could easily get off the ground in Phoenix, on a 95F+ day, in 120
feet after a 3 second ground roll (solo).
Last but not least, except for routine oil changes and such, I
wouldn't have to touch that engine for 1800 hours!
Two-strokers aren't the only ones having fun out there :-)

On my KitFox I put a red nozzle tube from a WD40 can inside each sight gauge
tube.
The different refractive indices of the sight gauge tube with and without
fuel causes the red tube to have a 'joggle' in its appearance at the fuel
level. Has worked great for 13 years, cost = 0.

I'm installing fiberglass tanks in a series three that used to have
aluminum tanks. Skystar was kind enough to send me most of the parts to
install but no instructions. They have also proven to be impossible to
contact on the issue.
I have two tanks, some plumbing, two tubes of sealant and a handful of
stainless pop rivets.
Each tank has three holes on the inboard sides.
Anyone able to help me decipher how to install them and what the extra
holes on the inboard sides of the tank are for? I'm guessing sight gage.

Bud I don't know if it is a good option, but I aquired a kitfox that had
very small wood screws every 3-4 inches instead of rib stiching. I am
recovering as well as every other thing and plan on ribstitching. Check with

If it's like a series IV, one tank should have 4 holes 1 for vent (most
fwd), 2 for sight gage line, and 1 for fuel feed. Other tank has no vent. I
do have a series IV installation manual for fiberglass tanks, possibly also
the manual for series III but they are at my hangar in Idaho. I will be
going there in early Sept so if you haven't gotten any help by then, I will
be glad to send a copy.

Hi Bud,
Back when I built N194KF IV-1200, the info was that rib stitching was needed
if the max speed was over 140mph. Since your VNE is something like 125mph,
I wouldn't worry. Do to liability issues, you'll probably get advice to rib
stitch from SkyStar or PolyFiber. I put 800 hours on my fox, and fabric is
still in great shape.

Personally,
I wouldn't worry about it. I did rib stitch, but did so out of the belt and
suspenders thing and it was a topic of conversation on the list at the time.
Sometimes I think we do things because others are doing it with no better
reason than that. There are a whole bunch of Kitfoxes out there not rib
stitched and I have never heard of an issue with fabric coming loose from
the cap strips on any Kitfox. Bubbling up form the wing thanks, yes, but
not from a capstrip.
I doubt that the SUB will make any difference. I think experience has it
that the Subaru has a power output that is average for the airplane and you
will be operatiing within the weight limitations specified by SS so there is
really nothing new to worry about - my opinion for what it's worth.
