Of course, John! Why didn't I think of it? And the good news is that the shimming
washers are coming with your installation package, it's just a matter of installing
them on the left side (looking forward) of your engine mounts.
On my Kitfox, the P-factor is so minimal that I didn't bother to do it. But I might
try, one day.

Jim,
Thats by the book. Best explanation yet and fits with all one ever learned.
This describes how most craft are supposed to behave.
I'm jealous that you are getting a stall speed that is so low. Mines
42. Maybe some winter cleanup will lower that.

that Full flaps will allow shorter landings. First, the stall speed
is lowered by about 3 mph in smooth air. That makes the approach speed 49 mph
rather than 53 (stall speed x 1.3 in smooth air). The drag is slightly higher
so the plane slows down a little quicker and it also allows raising the flaps
just at touch down to drop solidly to the ground. The difference may not be
noticable unless you are landing in short (less than 800 feet) runways.

That would make the difference, Bruce. At 2,900 and level, I am at the red line
(100 MPH) so I never use so much power as you do. Beside that, with my Jabiru
prop, I can't go over 3,000 RPM (2,900 in a climb or static).

That's the keyword, Jim: Practice and practice. After about 140 hours with my Kitfox,
I feel there is so much more to learn, to try, to train. If I was retired

Does anyone know where to locate a good door handle that will close the
bottom of the door on a kitfox 4 door.
It does not need to lock.
The current ones supplied by Skystar are very basic indeed and cause drag.
The old ones fasten the door on the front of the door frame and this means
that the door can open in flight sometimes!!

Spring, summer and fall the bugs are a real issue up here in Canada. When
I had my Cessna Aerobat, I took on a partner. One day I went to put my
hand on the leading edge of the wing for support as I was chatting with
someone and it slid off...leaving me staggering for balance. My new
partner had sprayed lemon pledge on the leading edge..so the bugs did the
same thing I did. Recently I was scraping bugs off my prop, cowl, leading
edge and everything else pointing forward on my Classic IV and remembered
the incident. I tried it and it works very well...better than I
remembered. Also leaves a nice shine.
All you old timers probably know about this..but thought maybe those new
to the game may appreciate the tip.

the tires?
I'm not sure my responce is related to your question.

I was looking at the toe in on the main gear of my classic VI and it appears
to be about 1/2 inch from the front of the break disk to the back with the
greatest distance between the two at the rear. This does not seem right to
me . Has anyone else found this on their for and if so what is the best
method for fixing it?

Subject: | landings FLapperons |
--> Kitfox-List message posted by: kitfox@gto.net
I have read about Kitfox flaps or no flaps and like to offer what i
find.
My Flapperons on the KF IV are 33 degree Full down.
I use 15 to 20 deg for soft field wheel
- SKis
- Float take offs
They definatly a benefit in getting your weight from gear to wings
quicker.
I also find from my old cessna days that with 15 to 20 deg flaps on
roll I can pull the flap full down and "pop " the water or ground in a
jiffy. But 33 degrees is a lot of drag as well so you get nose down
and get rid of the extra 15 deg in a hurry or you will not be able to
accelerate as much.
On landings
same 15 to 20 deg flapperons will give you slower and shorter
landing.
On wheels once planted dump your flaps to give your self more weight on
wheels and better braking.
On Skis in soft snow dumping flaps wil sink you deepr in soft snow if
you want to slow in a hurry or in slush.
On floats you want to land as slow as possible so same as above.
Flapperons on Kitfoxes have seemed to be a real benefit to me and I am
not sure why others seem to think they are not useful. But hey to
each their own.
On earlier kitfox t and avids up to modcel IV KF they do not have
aileron differential.

Aha! I think we are into something here, Kirby. Because my Model 3 user manual
says:
"You should build a stop for the flaps handle to restrict flap declection to 23
degrees. Deflection beyond 23 degrees tends t restrict aileron travel and effectiveness."
I guess, you guys with the model 4, or later, are better off with your flaperons.
Cheers,
Michel

Where would you measure to get the 1/4 in . At the break disk or the tire.
I have about a 1/2 in at the break disk. how can this be fixed?

I think which side of the rudder you put the tab on is mostly
aesthetic--where do you think it looks good? I found that I needed
to hold right rudder in cruise flight with my Rotax 912S so I put a
tab on the right side of the rudder that was bent to the left. I
liked the way that looked because the bend needed was small enough
that the trailing edge of the tab was still behind the rudder tubing,
whereas putting it on the left side of the rudder would have the
trailing edge sticking out to the left past the trailing edge of the
rudder.
Looking down:

I riveted mine to the aft rudder tube at the top and bottom. The
plate was about 9 or 10 inches tall and about 2.5 to 3 inches from
front to back. I angled the top edge down to make it look
symmetrical with the lower edge (which is tilted up due to the angle
of the aft rudder tube.
This arrangement worked nicely--I still needed right rudder during
takeoff and climb, left rudder was needed in a high speed descent,
and it was feet-off during cruise.
