Hi George.
Pitch on my three blade Warp Drive prop right now is set at 13 degrees. I
started at 17 degrees, had very good climb but could not get full rpm out of the
912UL.
I have fudged at 11degrees but red lined the rpm and cruise was slower.
I always find it tough to read the climb rate cause of the delay, probably
because of the angle of the pitot tube to the line of flight during climb. So I
really don't know, maybe 1000 to 1200 feet per min.
Level flight at 5300 RPM, I see 110 mph. I like 4000 RPM and 80 mph, I think
that is a nice relaxing speed if I am not going anywhere in particular.
How scientific is all this info? not very. but I am comfortable enough right
now not to continue to tweak the degrees on the Warp Drive. I think it is very
difficult to get the "perfect pitch" with this ground adjustable, always a
1/2 to 3/4 of a degree off between the blades. Who knows, maybe other makes are
the same.
Greetings. Eric Classic IV Atlanta.

We mounted an AvMap GeoPilot to the center of our instrument panel with a
plate I made that has 4 offset prongs sticking out to fit the hangar
receptacles on the back of the unit. I couldn't find any details about the mounting
of
your 196, but the catalogs lists a dashmount as standard equipment. ours
just lifts off the prongs with no problem. The antenna we just lay on the
extreme forward position of the top of the Inst Panel glare shied next to the
windscreen, and have no problems whatsoever with reception or physical
interference.

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I went to a session on Rotax 912 care and
feeding put on by an authorized Rotax Repair Center. They posted the MS
Powerpoint presentations from these sessions on their web site, and it
includes one on reducing vibration in the 912S from the session I
attended. It has several images, showing things like the coil gap
clearance adjustment. Without the narrative it is not as good as the live
session, but the pictures help a lot.
Once you download and run the file, it will ask for a password. Simply

This past weekend I flew up to a BMX race my son was involved with. I had
seen a show about Terry Fox the night before, the one legged runner who
ran a marathon a day, for over 100 days, running across Canada in and
effort to raise money for cancer research. I witnessed this event as a
boy when he ran through my childhood home town, and have run in the annual
race several times. I will never forget when he announced he could not
finish the Marathon of Hope because the cancer had returned. The Marathon
of Hope did not die with Terry though, and so far has raised over $ 400
million dollars for cancer research.
This past weekend was the 25th anniversary, but because of the BMX race I
could not run as I had before to raise money, and was pretty bummed out.
Kitfox and Terry Fox got me thinking, and on a whim I asked the race
director to announce that a raffle would be held for an airplane ride...$
5 for one ticket, $ 10 for three. The proceeds would go to the Terry Fox
foundation. I orbited the track during the breaks. Two hours later my
wife and I had raised $ 400 for a good cause, and a few hours after that
we made the day for two youngsters captivated by the magic of flight.
Liability issues aside, maybe I will try and organize this a bit better
next year. Everyone seems to have a story when the topic of cancer comes
up. Terry Fox and KitFox. Something just seems right about that.

G'day Graeme,
I'm curently building a Model IV with a Rotax 9122. I took the kit over
from a gent in Canberra. I'm really just starting to get underway. Is the
A/C your looking at finished, or do you have to do some work on it? Where
is it located?

One more question. Do you have to open the fabric and weld these attachments
to the cross tubes?

we hjave a Series V kitfox and just finished installing speed kit,and
Eggenfellners fuel pressure regulator. We were getting 500 fpm rate climb until
the
FPR was installed and now it is back to 300fpm, but speed at 24.5in Hg and
5.5gph 4200 rpm is now 125 mph. Using a 69in (cut down from 72 inch) two bladed
IVO prop (started out with 3 blades). Can't find an rpm to give any better
rate of climb--disgusting.

Hey Floran,
I'll chime in on the pod. I have a longwing IV with
tube gear and love my pod. I couldn't tell any
difference with it on in terms of speed (although my
fat tires and long wings keep me at 103mph true
anyway!).
The mount bolts up to the three tabs already welded
on the bottom of the fuselage then two front eyebolts
with short spacers install through the fabric and the
ply floorboards.
I've packed up to 60lbs of crap into mine with no
problem. It's nice as it's pretty much on the CG.
Regards,
Ted

How easy is it to access things in the pod..and to get the pod on and off
the airplane. To me it looks sort of awkward.

Hey Gary,
To remove or install the pod takes four AN3 bolts
with castle nuts and safety pins. Takes maybe 10
mins. Typically I load the pod then install it on
the plane but when I'm at a flyin I can usually cram
stuff back in without removing it. You can get stuff
in & out by simply unlatching the clasps and letting
the bottom half fold down. It's not bad at all.
Regards,
Ted

Hello all,
I am new to the list & I have a few topics that I'm sure many of you have
insight on. I just finished my tailwheel signoff & required solo time & I
was
thinking about doing some flying with the doors off. Are there any
tendencies
I
should be aware of or any good reasons why it would not be wise to remove
the
doors. Also, I am looking for a good way to mount my Garmin 196 GPS to the
panel. Does anyone know if they have a kit for that. If not, I was
thinking
of mounting some kind of short post to the top center of the panel & using
the
yoke clamp to attach it there. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

Hi ! Mike,
I have a MKIV and a Garmin 55 AVD. I think physically this
might be the same as your 196 but don't hold me to that. Anyway mine sits in
a plastic cradle flat against the panel. It can just pull off for security
but I hardly ever do. when you put it into the cradle it connects into the
planes power at the back so I never need batteries. I bought the plane set
up this way but I am fairly sure the mounting bracket and wiring comes from
Garmin as an accessory.

Mike,
Search "gpsmap 196" on ebay. Some panel mounts will come up.
I just took one of the mounts (yoke mount?) apart and bolted it to my panel.
It sticks out a bit further than the panel mount does but works great.
