      Brian,

I am very interested in the slats you have developed. I am in Australia,
and am familiar with the 3/4 scale version of the Feissler Storch that is
being sold as a kit by Nestor Slepchev out here. It is an amazing aircraft
to watch, virtually leaping off the ground into a very slight headwind.
With about 5-8kts breeze, Nestor can get his Storch into the air in about
30 mtrs, and then into a power climb (about 60 degrees - not sure of the
      vertical rate)within about another 10 - 15 mtrs.

I am close to being ready to put the fabric on my Classic IV wings
(standard), so its an opportune time to consider what you have developed.

      Regards

      Colin Durey

Way back when in the last century, Avid, and I presume Kitfox, supplied
a special cleaner to use on the aluminum tubes. First you would remove
the surface oxide coat with scotch brite, wipe the tube with a clean
cloth, and then paint on the cleaner. It was extremely volitile and
almost immediately evaporated leaving a thin film of white powder that
would be wiped off just before alpplying the adhesive. It was so
volatile that the cans had to be sealed with a bead of silicone adhesive
to keep it from evaporating straight out of the can. This was an
extremely effective method but eventually it no longer met EPA regs. By
the way another name for aluminum oxide is Saphire.

I live on Swains lake in Barrington, NH. Looking for anyone with a Kitfox Lite.
I want to build one on floats. The floats are wood that I'm building from plans.
Going for my Sport pilots license and will train in a Piper J-3, then to
PA-12, Piper Super Cruiser for float rating. Would like to meet fellow Lite owners
or anyone on floats. To talk shop or training. If not a Lite, maybe a Kitfox
      bigger brother.

You know, Amos never got much air time. The whole show was usually just
      Kingfish & Andy.

I didn't remember she was, but that seems likely.

Wonder if Jerry gets the joke? Do you know he's a retired field artillery
major down in Louisanna somewhere? I sent him a e-mail asking if he's
      keeping his powder dry!

My Kitfox III 582 has cooling problems. I've worked through the
instruments, engine timing, jetting, etc. and have come to the conclusion
that the little belly radiator is too small. I've dropped it down 2" into
the airstream and tried a big belly scoop, still no better. I've flown it
and it cools exactly the same in the air as on the ground.

I've been looking longingly at that big beautiful NACA cowl on the front.
That thing is designed to pass in air at the root of the prop, compress it
through the engine cylinders, and expell it out exit ramps at the sides.

Also, the part of the belly radiator that does any good is only 4" X 18".

So how about mounting one or two radiators off of the type C gear box?
Plenty of room there to easily double the radiator area. Then baffle the
radiator front cowl. Would have to do a small box for the air cleaner and
hoses to cool the fuel pump and gascolator.

Anyone else heard of this being done?

      Gil,
Which one do you have? Is it the 2 liter Nalgene? If so I can help
      you find a replacement.

Not a 582 but take a look at the Engelfeller subaru set up. Sounds like what
      your talking about.
