I know these are dumb questions, but one doesn't know, the best way to learn is ask a group that does. Thanks. Howard tfox-List

--> Kitfox-List message posted by: "Brian J. Pankonin" <brian@stevesaircraft.com> Colin, I have watched the video of the Slepcev and agree with you as to its performance. I have also had hands on experience with an original Feisler here and got a ride in the back seat of it. What an amazing aircraft. The Feisler is what got me started on Slat design and theory. It wasn't until my friend Rick with his Kitfox that I was able to put my ideas on a flying aircraft. As for the Kitfox slats. They are a fixed slat, like the Storch, and make the aircraft a more stable and enjoyable aircraft to fly. The brackets are attached to every other rib (I used the same rib as the flaperon brackets) and utilize and inside and outside angle. I would be a cleaner installation before fabric because you could glue the internal brackets to the underside of the rib's before cover. On our prototype, I cut 8 inspection holes in the wings(one on each side of the rib on 4 ribs) to install these internal brackets. I am thinking about putting together a kit. I have uploaded a few pics to the forum but have noticed that they have not been posted yet. I can send them to anyone that is interested as an individual e-mail if you want them. I installed some Land Shorter VG's just aft of the slat on the Fox last Thursday. I talked to Rick today after he has flown it all weekend. He now reports a stall speed of 20 MPH indicated straight and level with no power at 20 deg of flaps. The next thing to do is to install some gap seals on the elevator. He has brought the power up to 4500 and seen a IAS of 14 MPH before powering out of it. He is also taking off in about 75 feet. Now this is on an aircraft with extended wings with endplate tips and he has 30" tundra tires. I am sure the slats wont be as dramatic on stock wings with stock wingtips and small tires. If anyone reading this thread would like to talk to me in person. Do not hesitate to call me. 541-826-9729 shop 541-944-9352 cell Thanks. I've worked through the instruments, engine timing, jetting, etc. and have come to the conclusion that the little belly radiator is too small. I've dropped it down 2" into the airstream and tried a big belly scoop, still no better. I've flown it and it cools exactly the same in the air as on the ground. I've been looking longingly at that big beautiful NACA cowl on the front. That thing is designed to pass in air at the root of the prop, compress it through the engine cylinders, and expell it out exit ramps at the sides. Also, the part of the belly radiator that does any good is only 4" X 18". So how about mounting one or two radiators off of the type C gear box? Plenty of room there to easily double the radiator area. Then baffle the radiator front cowl. Would have to do a small box for the air cleaner and hoses to cool the fuel pump and gascolator. The screw cap is clear and says "Nalgene" on it. My frame is custom. I waited to answer to see if someone had it on your side of the Atlantic because shipping from Norway would be more expensive. But if Norm's reservoir doesn't fit and mine does, let me know. --> Kitfox-List message posted by: "Brian J. Pankonin" <brian@stevesaircraft.com> I have talked extensively with the owner of the Kitfox that I have done this modification too. He is extreamly happy with the modification so far but we are still working out some of the minor kinks. Installation of VG's just aft of the slot and on the underside of the elevators has produced a genterler stall and the stall has been pretty consistent at 20 MPH indicated. He does have speeds from the GPS to compare to prior to installation but he has not checked GPS reading since installation yet. We want to add gap seals to the elevator before doing the final numbers. I would also like to do some yarn tufting to see exactly where the airflow changes into the slat. Hopefully we can get everything done in the next couple of weeks. Unfortunatly, his scedule is pretty copact and I have to work around that. Pictures have been uploaded to matronics, will have to wait to see if they get posted. Thanks for all your interest. Brian.

Clint From: "Harry Tucker" <harry@htucker.com> Subject: Kitfox-List: Rotax 912 S vibration problems with Ivo Prop medium --> Kitfox-List message posted by: "Harry Tucker" <harry@htucker.com> On a classic 4 Kitfox we had a major vibration problem, mainly on shut down. We fitted a slipper clutch which helped a bit. On the annual service we found that 2 engine mounting bolts had sheared off and all the engine mounting rubber bolts were well under the recommended torque. We have put in new bolts and torqued all engine rubber bolts and the vibration is now far better BUT when one powers back then one still gets a vibration to a level where one get petrol coming out of the carb overflow. Any ideas? Harry Tucker Wildlife & Golf Inv. --> Kitfox-List message posted by: " Harold Nelson" <HBN@SRNET.COM> Jack-- If you get desparate I have an LW-27R wheel that needs some machine work to make useable again. The brake disc mounting lug holes were stripped. The stripped holes have been Heliarc filled, but some of the aluminum fill extends above the brake disc mounting surface. This needs to be milled off on a vertical mill, or possibly on a lathe to true up the brake disc mounting surfaces, after which two new threaded holes need to be made for mounting the brake disc, and one Helicoil installed for the third lug. This is a fair amount of machining, but should give a perfectly useable wheel. Again, if you're desparate!!!
