Hi Guys, well there comes a time when you have to bite the bullet and go with your
gut feelings. This said I have just sent $5000 as deposit on a model 1V with
the NSI motor and CAP system. I received lots of information from listers,
some good, some bad but all genuine and most spoke from experience. At the end
of the day I am comfortable with my decision to purchase this aircraft. I flew
it over the weekend and to say its impressive is an understatement. This is
one serious machine. Thanks to all who gave me their time to comment, particularly
Lowell and Steve Z. 2 diametrically opposed views which provided balance
to my decision. I pick it up on the weekend of the 15-16 Oct. The owner has generously
agreed to fly it up to Brisbane if I get him back home. If anyone in
Australia is looking for a Model 1 I just happen to know somebody whose selling
one.

Thanks Rex. I guess that's right, something like soft sand or very uneven terrain,
will act as a kind of brake on the wheels and since the CoG is above it, the
result will be a nose over. Hum, I better stay away from sand, stones, cows,
trolls ... :-)
Does anyone know how it is to land e.g. in a field of wheat corn?

Thanks Don. It's quite a process. I'll try the choke for a while, since I
can't face doing the requisite firewall work for a primer right now. Also,
I have a clutch so can't pull the prop through by hand. (I guess I'd just

Primer only takes one 1/4" hole in the firewall. All the other stuff is
under the panel.

Wheelers. Let it settle in the early part part of the flare until the tail
just begins to drop, then a small check forward until the mains scuff then a
second more pronounced check forward. None of these high speed wheelers for
me, tail low every time, takes the sting out..~j~

Since Brian is a fried of mine I feel free to comment on his wheel
landings. The real story is that Brian has never made the
transition from nose gear to conventional. Still looking for the
nose wheel.
Stick with three point landings and stop in half the distance.

Get a JC Whitney catalog and order a battery powered oil pump. It is pistol
grip shaped,green and cost about $30.
Take the top off the tank. Put the intake tube in the oil, run the out flow
tube into a can and turn on the pump.
Makes it easy.

I had one of the WORST 1hr lessons I ever had when learning to wheel land. After
bouncing and a little bit of everything else, the instructor ( an ag spray
pilot) proceeded to do a great one,,,but he couldn't seem to teach me how. When
he exited the airplane, I ask it he thought I was safe enough to try some more
by my self...His comment was....Welllll, You didn't bend the airplane. I
tried another one immeiately and it was a greaser and been doing them ever since.
The more spring in the gear, the harder they are and the more forward stick
need to "Plant it on".. Do your practicing on a grass strip if available and
use some power at first. Getting the airplane to the proper attitude and sink
rate, as well as not being afraid to get the stick forward at the right time
was the key for me,,,,,and for sure stay of of the brakes and dance on the
rudder pedals
