Guy. I have a UHS spinner. Got it a long time ago. When I first placed it on
and started the motor my wife noticed that the spinner was out of round (a big
wabble). I didn't like the idea of people seeing this as I taxied by.
I removed the back plate and placed it on my lathe and found the back plate
was not true.
I went for a long time without a spinner and then I purchased a small
aluminum one.
I finally purchased soft aluminum from Aircraft Spruce and made a wood mold
from the original back plate and spun a back plate.
Riveted in nut plates and now I am happy with the 10" spinner.
I do not understand how this company could think that the back plate could be
true without machining after the chopped glass is sprayed, there is no way to
maintain equal thickness on the back plate.
But to answer your question. I think the 1/8" should be sufficient to hold on
the spinner. There isn't much force, centrifugal or otherwise on the plate,
unless the spinner is really out of center.

big picture and how things are changing. Only surface winds though.
A reall good site too is: http://www.rvproject.com/wx/ This is a
translation of Aviation weather and has lots of detail if you have an
airport nearby.

very accurate. It does give you a good idea of any counter clockwise
pressure activity so you can guess as good as the experts.
The second one for METAR info looks great but no forcast winds or winds
aloft?

The second one does have winds. I have seen both off a bit. The METAR
based one is usually high - the winds are not that strong as a rule.

I'm running a normally aspirated NSI Subaru EA81 engine on my Model IV 1200 Kitfox.
I have a 3-blade, ground-adjustable Warp Drive prop with the pitch set at
16 degrees. My maximum engine rpm at level flight is 4700. I've just upped
the pitch from 15 degrees, and find that I am getting about the same indicated
air speed at 3800 rpm that I had been getting at 4100 rpm. Needless to say,
I like the faster speed with less wear on the engine, but I realize that if I
increase the pitch enough, at some point I'm going to be lugging the engine and
increasing the risk of pre-ignition, etc. (The increase in pitch does not
seem to have affected my take-off or climb. My vertical speed indicator shows
8 to 9 hundred feet per minute at 70 mph indicated.) Can someone tell me at
what point I have to worry about overloading the engine? Thanks in advance.

That sounds like the spinner I have. I just went through 750 hours on the
way back from the Desert Fox Fly-in North of Phoenix.
I was complemented by an RV builder on the true spin of the spinner. I
guess there can be a quality control issue here as well as other products.
I also wonder about heat. It is pretty common practice in the plastic
airplane business to apply heat to some parts to tweak them into alignment.
Maybe the same can be said about heat distorting parts also.

I think it's the best graphical weather information available anywhere. For
flight planning I use Jeppessen FlightStar. I love it. I update the
database about once a year because I always plot on and use current paper
charts when flying.
