Others have had fuel line problems with the Mil spec hoses. Your's may be the same cause. Let us know what you find with the hose flow checks. I am using Tygon lines on my plane now. I have polyurethane hoses already to change out on my next annual. I am going to try Bing hoses later. You can get Bing, Tygon and Polyurethane hose from Aircraft Spruce. Check the specks for what you like and change to one of them. Bing seems to have the best specs to me and I'll probably end up keeping them. I'm just "experimenting" with each to see. Kurt S. I had two incidents where on a max or long heavy take-off effort, the engine fell down to very low RPM and virtually no power at about 200 feet. (Just about the time I was out over the swamp.) I didn't touch the throttle and made a very slow easy turn back to the airport. A couple of on-lookers were very surprised that I managed to make it back to the runway. One even asked if I carried toilet paper in the plane. I was sure it was a fuel problem, but I couldn't find anything wrong. The first one destroyed a lot of confidence in the little plane, the second one really un-nerved me. I called Skystar, I asked everybody I knew, but no one had a solution. I started pouring over the maintenance and overhaul manuals and all of a sudden there it was. A notation that said something to the effect of "Do not block or change the length of the carb bowl vent tube as it might upset the pressure differential for the carburetor." Well, the lights went on, because about a month before the first incident, I had noticed one day that if the left carb needle and seat stuck and flooded that carb, the gasoline would run right down on the muffler, so I lengthened the hose so it could be re-routed out of the way. I took the plane out on the ramp and tied it down very securely ands did max effort run-ups to simulate a take-off of as hot high density day. I did 10 of them and on three occasions, the engine would falter after a while and on all of them the EGT on the left bank of cylinders would drop drastically. (Now you have time to pay attention to these things.) Then I put the short hose back on and did 10 more with no problem at all. Seeing that was the problem, I fastened the lower portion of my log hose to the firewall and fastened a small funnel in the top and just laid the vent tube in the funnel Now if it leaks or overflows, it runs down and out of the way, and I have not upset anything on the carb. I don't know whether this is anything like the problems folks are having, but check that vent hose. It's critical -------Original Message------- From: kurt schrader Subject: Re: Kitfox-List: 912UL --> Kitfox-List message posted by: kurt schrader Glen, That is a real problem. The new one is even better than the first one and surprizingly it is smaller and cheaper - Hanger 9 Micro Digital Tach. I use a spreadsheet to create a conversion chart for the RPMs I am interested in and tape it on the unit. The Rotax tachs will vary as much as 200 RPM as the ambient temperatures change. About the RPMs, I can't remember. The most likely problem scenerio is getting upside down and going too fast. The recovery technique is to roll upright and then pull out without over loading the wings. As the aircraft goes over the redline, the g load tolerance actually decreases and if the air is not smooth, the gust factor increases the shock load so the pull up load has to be decreased even futher. The model III is slow to roll and will point the nose down in a roll to a degree that will not let the roll be completed before a recovery pull up must be initiated (as compared to aerobatic aircraft). Is that what you were wondering?
