      Hi,
I'm new to the list and I am looking to aquire a kitfox in the near
future (January). I am really interested in the STOL capabilities as I
would love to be able to operate out of my house. I have 520' of very
flat ground with basically no obstacles on one end (one way in-one way
out). Is this just too short for a light kitfox I,II, or III? And are
those the best STOL models in the lineup? I am in central OH at
      around 700'MSL and I weight 160lbs.
Also, I have roughly 500hrs in tailwheels and have 6000+hrs across 40+
aircraft types (corporate jets to ultralights).

      Thanks in advance,

      Brent

You know Brent I don't have the answer but I would like to commend you for
being humble enough to ask the question. With your back ground and
experience it proves smart people ask when they don't know. I am sure
someone this list will nail the question.

A lightly built Fox with the undercamber wing would be the best choice
(I, II, or III). A light Model I with a big engine (65 hp 582) and
minimal bells and whistles and a power prop should get off in 75 ft.
Less with a head wind. Landing will require a bit more, say 200ft, with
precise speed control and accurate touchdown. So it can be done with
520' of runway, but.there isn't much room for error especially with a
one way runway and any kind of wind. An ultralight or gyrocopter with
prerotator or helicopter might be better.

I am looking for a elevator assy for a Kitfox 4-1200. (the original elevator was
delivered to a welding shop that went bankrupt, so it is gone). If it is hard
to get a elevator, anyone that can supply me with drawings for a elevator assy,
so i can have one manufactured here in Norway??

      Hi Brent

I fly a model III with a rotax 912. It is off the runway in as LITTLE as 75 feet.
Landing is more difficult. It can land as short as 300 feet. But after
700 hours I am not 100% always able to land within 500 feet. Any float at all
eats up a lot of a 450 foot runway real quick. The good news is that if I can
get in it will be possible to get out. I can be off the ground with two people
and an 8 mph tail wind in 300 feet. But a 300 foot landing distance only
leaves 150 feet of over run.
