Hi Guy
Here in New Zealand you can only get 100LL at airfeilds so I run my blue
head 582 on avgas.Have 40 hrs no problems. Before that put 400 hrs on silver
head 582 with no problems.Spark plugs last 25-30 hours but they are supposed
to be replaced at that time any way.Otherwise I have seen no detrimental
effects from avgas.

If you use 100LL, what engine oil would be appropriate? Would there be a
difference between a Rotax 4-stroke and 2-stroke?

Sam,
Hysol EA9460 is used on the wings by most builders now instead of 3M
Scotch weld. It is a two part (Part A and Part B) and much easier to
work with than the Scotchweld. It should be available from most any of
the homebuilder's suppliers such as Aircraft spruce. You most likely
will find the leads here on this list for hardware. John McBean can get
you the Spars. A couple weeks ago someone said they may have a left
flapperon I think.

Sam,
One more thought. I think I may still have the Skystar parts list for a
model 4 "Wing Kit". If you think it would help I will dig it out. I
have moved twice in the last year but am pretty sure it is in my Kitfox
folder somewhere.

I guess I could get some slack on the wire itself, fixing the sleeve at
a different point. But I'll never be 100% sure the wire will always
hold, it could come loose at the throttle handle or the "inverter." As
opposed to the 582, the Jabiru pulls the carb to WOT, if the cable
breaks. My problem is that, at WOT and level, I bust the red line. So,
if something like that should happen, my intention is to:
1) Declare an emergency to ATC.
2) Climb, to keep the speed under Vne.
3) Eventually ask for QDM to the nearest airfield (emergency situations
makes your brain soft and I'd rather ask for help that sorting out maps
on my own.
4) Get high enough so that I can make a landing with the engine off.
The problem is, if the carb is stuck at WOT, I don't think I'll be able
to start again in flight. I think I'll have only one chance.
What do you think, my experienced friend? Something wrong or missing
in my "emergency procedure list?"
Cheers,
Michel

Just a thought on car gas. I am not an expert on fuel, but I ask you to
consider the vapor pressure side of the issue. I use car gas a lot, but
then again I am mostly running a car (Honda) engine. Car gas will eat
Mill spec hose. Throw it away. It cost about $15 to change all the hoses
to good fuel line at NAPA. Back to vapor pressure. They change car gas
summer to winter and location to location, so what is true here in
eastern oregon is not true where you are. Winter grade gas has a low
vapor pressure for easy starting and because they do not need to go to
the expense in the winter. That is why you see lots of stalled cars if
you get a hot snap before the gas stations get changed back to summer
gas. The worst I saw this was one spring in Denver were heat combined
with altitude caused literally hundreds and hundreds of cars to stall.
If you have winter car gas in your plane and it gets hot, drain most of
the gas- It is easy to siphon most out - and put 100LL in. When you are
sure the stations are pumping summer grade gas you can consider it again
if you want. Even when it is cold you may have problems with winter gas
at altitude. This usually shows up for me as slight bumping or missing
and usually only over 10,000 feet. My fuel pumps are under the passenger
seat a few inches from the header tank so I am no so worried about vapor
lock as I am pushing gas instead of pulling it, but it is still a concern.
If I remember correctly, there is or used to be a chemical engineer on
the list that has extensive knowledge of fuels. Please jump in as this
is very important.
Alan.

Travis,
Aircraft Spruce has McCreary "Air Hawk" tire sizes 8.00 x 6.00 and 8.50 x 6 tires that would work for you. The latter is what I will be installing on my Just Aircraft Highlander. Go to http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/lgpages/mcairhawk.php to see their offerings and prices.

Good evening,
Does anyone know where a person can get a copy of, rent, borrow, or get
access
to a firewall forward construction manual for a Model 7 configured for a
rotax 912ULS? I have the complete firewall forward parts for the rotax
engine. Anyone close to my neighborhood (Minnesota) with a manual? This
was
one of the items I lost in the bankruptcy deal. I have the main
construction
manual, but am missing the part for the firewall forward. I am sure that
was
supposed to come with the engine. Didn't get the engine I purchased so
didn't
get the manual either.
Sincerely,
Dave S.

Travis,
Golf cart or ATV tires work good and much cheaper than "aircraft" tires.
Good selection here $20-$30 range:

Hi guys, I have done a search of the archieves for an answer to this question but
have been unsuccessful. My right wing tanks fills from my left leaving more
in the right than the left. This creates a problem when folding the wing because
it vents very quickly all over my beautiful new plane. Is there any way that
the tanks can compensate equally when running through a gascolator so I dont
have to drain excess fuel before folding the wings. I have found that 20Liters
left per side is OK but when it all drains across I end up with 40 in one and
very little in the other. The paint work has already been affected by this
happening twice.

That could be a good thing... especially the fact that it would be available

This will surely depend on what they replace the lead with for octane
enhancement. Thinking here about out f/glass tanks and fuel lines etc. ~j~

Might check to see how level your parking area is. Then if you install at
least one fuel shutoff to the header tank, it wont transfer. Also make
filling easier. Be sure and put a remove before flight flag on the shut off
valve. Worked for me.
