Thanks for the good explanation John. I've heard that very small amounts of
CO over a long period of time can be cumulative, such as a very small leak
in a furnace heat exchanger or exhaust manifold. I was told that it can
continue to accumulate and reach a threshold where it suddenly can create
incapacitation. Is this true or does the fresh air received when not
exposed tend to clear the blood of the CO content. For example, a very
small leak in an airplane exhaust heater when the airplane is only flown
once or twice a week for an hour or so each time. Could this be a problem?
What are typical symptoms of mild CO poisoning?

I am also looking forward to that answer from John, Deke, because, from what I
understand, my detector will change colour when a) a large amount of CO escapes
or b) a small amount over a long time.
The latter could be dangerous as I also understand that the main problem with CO
is that it takes such a long time to get out of your body.
In any case, with a Kitfox, if I get a headache, or any other sign that I am in
trouble, I would open both doors and seek the closest landing place with them
open - something that can't be done with many aircraft.
Cheers,
Michel

A smart thing I did was put a CO detector in my garage. There have been
times when a test start was required with the door closed due to bad
weather. The alarm (Nighthawk) went off on the third restart and I just
left and came back when the weather got reasonable and aired out the
building. The alarm goes off at a part per million that is still safe and
it has a readout to tell me what the level is. It would be a wise addition
to a hanger as well because one can never tell when a breeze would cause CO
from an engine warm up to fill the hanger.
Never heard of a CO2 detector. Maybe I just have not paid attention.
BTW, The Nighthawk has a 9v backup battery and could be used in your plane
is the airplane installed one is suspect. Like if you have symptoms and it
indicated no CO. The direct readout would give some degree of comfort. Its
to darn heavy to leave in the plane for long as its designed for household use.

Hi Don. ACS has 2 varieties, optical and mechanical. Since your tank is opaque,
either type should work but the mechanical one (float-type) is less expensive.
I wired mine up with a orange, panel mounted LED I got at AutoZone. It's easy.

My name is Lou Landucci and I have a Kitfox Classic IV Speedster
with a 912S-UL (100HP) Rotax engine. I need new motor mounts and have no
idea where to get them. Any suggestions? I was able to remove the old
ones, which were compromised by a small oil leak.
I need the (4) engine mount rubber donut washer assemblies. Each
mount consists of two large rubber donut washers, one small rubber donut
washer and a metal spacer. I can reuse the metal spacers (these were the
updated ones that Skystar put out a while back), but all of the rubber will
get replaced. Can you direct me to a source or a direct replacement as
Skystar is no more? They were skystar items; the skystar part numbers are
as follows:
(8) 44023.000 Rubber washer 2.35" D912INSTL
(4) 44024.000 Rubber washer 1.44D R912dvxn
I appreciate any help from you or anyone on the group.
Regards,
Also, the small peg, which protrudes off of the upper right engine
mount, which is used to secure the CDI box broke off. I am taking the
engine mount off of the plane to get that welded. My question is; do I have
to strip all of the powder coating off and have the engine mount analyzed
for additional cracks? Any advice?

Subject: | Rudder Adjustment lever attach points |
--> Kitfox-List message posted by: D& D Syverson <ddsyverson@comcast.net>
Good afternoon,
I felt I should share this information in case someone else may have a similar
situation. I ordered the adjustable rudder pedal option for my model 7. I
also skipped the powder coating since I wanted to be real sure that I could
inspect the welds.
Here is what happened. The fuselage has two U shaped brackets welded to the
fuselage tubes for attaching the rudder adjustment levers. One of them
cracked off at the bend with less than 5 pounds of pressure. There appears to
be two problems which caused this. 1) The bends appeared to be rather sharp,
with very little radius so the metal was cracked with less than 20% of the
thickness remaining. 2) The welding had eroded a significant amount of the
metal on the outside angle of the bend. At any rate, I thought about how
exciting this might be on a first flight (or any subsequent flight) if it
were not discovered. The obvious fix was to check both sides of both brackets
and re-weld the brackets. Better to get it resolved before the fabric is on!
I am not sure if all kitfoxes are built with the U-shaped brackets for the
rudder adjustment pivot points. I may have the only kit with this problem,
but I don't know. I shared this with Skystar's MGMT, but I never saw any
service reports issued. I felt I needed to share this with other builders in
case it might be a problem for others.
Sincerely,
Dave

There is also a float type that works also, and is inexpensive. This was
discussed before and someone or the archives have the part numbers and
where to order. I can hunt it up for you if you need.
