I was browsing Sportflight.com/uploads in the add-ons section and noticed that
Francesco Frigerio had recently uploaded pics of his 914/Safari and his panel.
I don't recall him letting us know that he'd done the upload or perhaps he's
not on the List. Francesco obviously is concerned with attention to detail.
Very impressive and worth the peek.

OK. I give up. Is that a mirror in the upper right section of the panel? Is
it to check passenger reactions? Or is it just for attending to the
passenger's "personal" needs? Does this thing really have an autopilot?
Should I take my Kitfox and throw it in the trash and start over? Man, it's
beautiful!

It's probably a rear view mirror, much like a car. I have one (snowmobile
part) attached to my front carry thru. Very handy for checking my six
(never know when the Red Baron might be closing in), runway alignment, trim
position of horiz stab, new zits, etc.
Francesco, are you out there? If so, tell us about your airplane.

That is one nice looking plane. It has everything but a TCAS system (
that I could see ) -Mike D'Amico is still the only one I have see with
that. It does appear, however, that he has his airspeed indicator marked
incorrectly. There appears to be some real pride in workmanship in this
plane.

Hi Bruce,
I am in Campinis (CPN VOR or VCP airport) on the East
side a little more than 1/2 way down. It is about an
hour directly in from the coast, but further southwest
of Rio. I never get a chance to go to either though.
Been looking for any small plane activity here, but
see little. Nothing at this airport and only a little
flying over the city. There is another airport to go
look at, if I can get there.
Our internet went down since yesterday for the entire
city. Now with all the banks and businesses trying to
catch up, as well as us e-mailers, it is very slow.
Took an hour to download Francescos instrument panel
picture. I have to limit my e-mails to get any done.
This happens here from time to time...
It must have been fantastic to bush fly Brazil! This
is a really big place and a lot of bush field places
to go to. When you have some time, please give us a
story or 2.
Tonight I fly to Argentina - and back. A long night.
Too much time to think about .... "It was a long, dark
and stormy night.... The jungle beckoned from below.
`Come to visit me and stay`, it said....."

Subject: | Re: Low fuel alarm for header tank |
--> Kitfox-List message posted by: "Rex & Jan Shaw" <rexjan@bigpond.com>
Don,
as it happens I am right now in the process of trying to do the
same thing as well as adding a Facet 40171 pump.
The easiest in one way for a sensor for low fuel is a float switch. Several
of these are available as posted else where. However these need some depth
in the fuel to allow the float to drop. Now if you can work out how to mount
it in your header tank up near the top on the side that's great, but it does
not seem easy to me as an after thought. So I am looking for an optical
sensor. These are usually just a bit of electronics in a 1/2" threaded
fitting and so if you mount a short piece of say 1" tube horizontally across
the top of your header tank with the breather pipe going into it and out
again it will be full of fuel when you are getting fuel flow into your
header tank and just before your header tank level starts to drop when your
wing tanks are empty the tube will be empty. Now I suppose this tube could
be big enought for a float switch but thats very messy. However as I said
about a 1" tube will let you mount an optical sensor in the end. This sensor
can feed a flashing LED [ light emitting diode ] on your panel or with minor
electronics operate an audible alarm or a sgnal in your earhones or all of
the above. The thing is I haven't been able to get one of these sensors. Yes
I can find them on the nett but no one seems to want to sell me just one.
First let me try to explain how they work. They should cost about $50
although really there is no reason why they shouldn't be a lot less. All
they are is an little infra red LED and a photo transistor. That's just a
transistor that the light can shine into and activate it. Now what happens
is that the LED projects the light straight ahead out of the fitting into
the fuel, next to it is the photo transistor looking straight out of the
fitting into the fuel. Over the end of these two devices is clear glass or
some suitable clear synthetic. This is sharpened to a point making both the
LED and the transistor look at a 45 degree surface. The LED beam hits the 45
degree surface on it's side and reflects across at a right angle to the 45
degree surface in front of the transistor. The beam is again reflected at 45
degrees into the transistor turning it on. Like activating a switch. Well
that's the way things happen when in the air as in low fuel but when fuel
covers to pointed glass envelope at the end of our sensor most of the light
beam is not reflected and so the transistor does not turn on. Hence we can
tell if fuel is covering our sensor or not.
OK go to www.gentechsensors.com and there is 5 pictures. The left hand one
on the bottom is such a sensor. They also make a stainless steel one, [
OS-10 ] with a glass envelope [ pointy end ] that is needed for petrol but
I can't get any answer from them. I live in Australia and contacted their
agent over here, Adilam Electronics but they don't carry these in stock and
would need to buy probably one thousand units.
So now you can also go to www.Fluidswitch.com for such a sensor. They have
quoted me $55US but won't ship international less than $500.
Go to www.ppavionics.com site and you will find these sensors for $100
[Mmmm!] Also though you can track to a link called "How it Works" that
might explain better than I just have as it has a drawing.
Well anyway that's hopefully some enlightenment for you. If you do find a
source of supply please let me know and I can probably help you with the
wiring side if needed.
Goodluck,
Rex.

-Hi Rex, Thanks for all that information on the low
fuel warning, Another gentlemen on the list told me to
look at the one sold on
www.MurleWilliamsAviation.com, go to catalog sales,
It looks very much like what you are talking about,
don"t know if they will ship to you or not, I,m in
Canada and I don,t know if they ship here or not, but
I may look into it. Great talking to you, let me know
how you make out. Best Regards, Don
