There is a website (www.webdr.com) that answers lots of > medical questions. Thank you, John. My idea was this: What would be the fist symptom? If it is headache, it can be easily detected and measures (closing the heater, opening the doors) can be taken at once. If it is loss of concentration (as for altitude symdrom) then it may even be difficult to think what to do. Am I right to think that, if exhaust gets in the cabin, it will contain CO but also CO2 and that headache is a sure early sign of contamination? I also read about CO on a Norwegian forum and, after many posting of how important it was to have a CO detector on a certain club plane, one poster wrote this (loosely translated): "Guys, statistics shows that there is one aviation fatality due to CO, per year, in the US. Scaled to the Norwegian population, that would be one fatality every 60 years!" If this is the case, I agree that CO poisoning is not a major problem. Cheers, Michel

--> Kitfox-List message posted by: Lynn Matteson <lynnmatt@jps.net> The 15-650-AC switch is a "float-to-open" type switch, which means that to open the circuit and turn off the low fuel warning light, the float must rise in the fuel. This switch won't work in the header tank that has the opening at the very top (on the side), because there isn't room for the float to rise and open the circuit. I ended up getting a tank from Murle Williams, mounting it where convenient above the header tank, and it works just fine. Had I not already purchased the switch, I would have bought the whole low fuel system from Murle. Subject: Optical Low Fuel Sensor
    From: "Colin Durey" <colin@ptclhk.com>
--> Kitfox-List message posted by: "Colin Durey" <colin@ptclhk.com> Rex/Don, Re my previous email on the optical sensors from GEMS... I got it slightly wrong last time... the ELS-1000 series if made from Polysuphone, but the ELS-900 series is made from Polyethersulphone. Both should be OK however for fuel, although the ELS-1000 series is probably better for fuels that may contain ethanol. There are a range of quite small float type switches that could also be usefull in this application, but I'll check my dtabase and catalogues when I get back into the office next week. I've been laid low for the last ten days by some sort of bug, but should be right next week. I've been looking at this subject of accurately sensing the level of liquid in a vibrating container, for some time now. I need to do the very same thing in certain equipment that I work with. I think I have a solution that could be made into a cheap module which can give you either a continuous readout (ie: present level, in either depth or volume terms) or, in a much simpler form, just tell you when you reach a certain levelor levels. The problem is not just an irregular shaped tank, but the way in which the tank pitches and rolls, both instantaneously, and over time (ie: in a sustained descent/climb). Anyway, let me know if the GEMS sensors are what you were originally thinking of. They look to me to be an exact replacement for the ones used by Skystar. Regards Colin Durey Sydney

--> Kitfox-List message posted by: "flier" <FLIER@sbcglobal.net> Good point Lynn although there are a couple of quick and simple ways to get around that. A little 12V SPDT relay from Radio Shack or just a small switching transistor could be used to 'invert' the switching for the lamp or LED. When I had header tanks built I simply moved the mounting boss down another inch or so to accomodate the switch. The Compac switch does come self-sealing so you really don't even have to have a threaded boss. They have never been used, and the hardware is still in the box. I think I have everything but the installation instructions. Does anybody ( maybe Gary W.) still have their installation/ assembly instructions? Thanks, Kirk Martenson Classic IV

--> Kitfox-List message posted by: "Bradley M Webb" <bmwebb@cox.net> Along these lines... Rather than worry too much about how to react to the problem, which is hit-or-miss at best, put your energy into preventing the problem altogether, by using a sound and thorough inspection ritual, and know your airplane, and it's weak points. For example, if your exhaust is even questionable, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! It doesn't have to cost a ton of money, but at least solve the problem. DO NOT think for a second that "good enough" is good enough. If it's worth doing, it's doing right.
