John, if you're trying to send an attachment to the list, because of virus
threats Matronics doesn't allow them. Much better to upload your pics to
Sportflight.com then click on uploads. Sportflight is hosted by our Don
Persall and is our permanent archive of photos and documents. For any who
haven't been in there, feel free to browse. Lots of stuff there from many
years back.

John,
I have finally figured out that my HPV-1 ignition is not bad after all, it
is the coil combiners that NSI uses. Does anyone have any idea of where
Lance got these units? I can get a different configuration from Mallory but
I don't want to have to deal with designing another mount for four units
instead of the two on the NSI.

Jim,
If you had one of the early engines, the most likely problem is with your
coil combiners or the hall effect pickups since electronic ignitions don't
usually go bad slowly, at least not in my experience. NSI had a problem
with the early pickups and coil combiners both. I replaced both of them
with new units from Lance, of course I had to pay through the nose for the
parts too.
I am now in search for another set of coil combiners so if you hear of any,
let me know.

I have been in contact with NSI both Friday and Today. Lance is gone
and new management is in place. There is a name change to MG
Propulsion Systems, if I got that right. It was apparently not a
friendly separation with Lance. The overall owner remains the
same. Craig is still there although not in either time I
called. The good news is that they are answering the phone except
during lunch time.
My new problem is that I have lost one side of my duel ignition. I
lost it slowly, but finally completely while running the engine on
the ground over the period of one hour. Mine is one of the early
production models with I assume, an early ignition system. I have
reviewed some of the List emails from 2002 on the subject.
More good news is that I was put in touch with Bob Eatwell who is in
charge of new electrical design for the new company. He is from
England and in fact is leaving for a week in England tomorrow. As I
will be heading for Minnesota on Wednesday for a week, he will be
back about the same time I am back. He asked me to do some more
trouble shooting and in the meantime he will obtain data on my
system. I am to call him back and he will be prepared to work
through the system with me. Maybe then I will finally get my plane
flying. All together I only have about 11 flight hours on the
plane. I am determined to stick with it and work the bugs out this time.
:)
For now I can report that they are very business like in their
response, say they have plenty of resources, and intend to get the
new company on the road. I got no feeling that they were going to
sideslip old problems. Those of you who have issues with NSI, I
suggest you give them a new call.

Pretty much anywhere. Walmart, Home Depot, hardware stores. Might even try
ebay. The stuff was originally marketed to runners who would wear out their
expensive running shoes. It's good for repairing delaminated soles, etc.
Works great as a support on electricals, especially where several wires come
together. There's another version called Goop that's pretty much the same
thing.

Deke,
I looked at theirs and Mallory's as well. They are of a different
configuration which would mean a new mounting configuration in a very tight
location.

A bit pricey, but probably a good product. I've toyed with the idea of

Subject: Kitfox-List: Model IV with Rotax 582
--> Kitfox-List message posted by: "Doug Sloan" <dougsloan@nctv.com>
I have inherited a Classic IV kit with a Rotax 582 LC engine. This kit is
still in the original packaging. My grandfather never made it to assemble
this airplane. In reviewing the packing slip, the following options were
added: Cargo container mounting brackets, gascolator and mounting bracket,
prop - 3 blade fixed, antenna mount plates, speed fairing kit, vents,
auxiliary wing tank kit (left and right), and full instrument panel. The
rest seems to be the standard full kit.
I have all of the manuals, invoices, etc. I was wondering if anyone could
tell me what this kit was worth or give me an idea how to sell this. I am a
hobby pilot that flies Cessnas and have never attempted a taildragger
transition. I do not have an interest in building a plane either. If
anyone can help, my e-mail address is dougsloan@nctv.com.
Thanks.

Subject: | Need cover for Model IV |
--> Kitfox-List message posted by: "Luis Rodriguez" <wingnut@spamarrest.com>
I made the mistake of purchasing a model IV before securing hangar space. Turns
out that there's a long waiting list at my airport. The cover I have now is a
home brew deal that isn't doing the job. After a couple of rainy days, I found
her with a couple of quarts of water in the fuselage despite the drain hole
in front of the tail spring. The water is getting trapped somewhere and I had
to raise the tail to drain it out the front. Kinda scary.
Is there an aircraft cover on the market that will keep her dry? Should I just
fold the wings and throw a tarp over her? Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
Luis,

Gary, I have had that movie on my desktop, both at home and at work,
for nearly a year. I don't remember who gave me the link and if it
wasn't this list, I must surely have published here too.
Anyway, this is the best video I have seen. I often watch it when I
need that little booster of energy, or if I feel a bit down. Man, this
is better than sex! I wish I could do aerobatics! (not in my Kitfox, of
course!)
The movie is extremely well done, I love the music, the building up of
the atmosphere, the incredible stuns, the last "pas de deux" of the two
planes dancing together like spinning lovers ... I am short of words!
Cheers,
Michel

Oops, I didn't think of that. You see, I also have a plan to change to

Hi Michel and Gary I Have a shortcut on my desktop to Jimmy Franklin in the
Skystar Kitfox at Oshgosh. If you want to see a Kitfox do aerobatics go to
Lazair.com then select kitfox avid forum then video then Jimmy Franklin.
Unbelievable and the term right side up is improper as the bottom is just as
right. Ron Nb Ore

The torque for anything on a Kitfox airframe should be found in AC 43-13,
Table 7-1. If your fuselage is the same as mine you'll use AN4 hardware
which has a "recommended" torque of 50-70 in-lbs. and a "maximum allowable"
of 100 in-lbs. (Be sure to increase these to account for lock nut friction.)

Hi Norm, I will also be needing the firewall edge seal
soon my self, I was cleaning the glass on my gas
fireplace the other day and realized the gasket around
the glass panel looks very much like the original bulb
seal I see in the Kitfox construction manual, I have
not had a chance to check it out but it just might be
what we need. Please let me know if you find anything,

Here's what I did on my 2: Home Depot Aviation Dept. has what is called
caulk saver. Basically it's a round grey foam extrusion that's about 3/4"
diameter. Costs about $6.00USD for 20' or so. Take this, and using a razor
blade, run a slit to the center of the tube the length of your run. Now fill
this slit with a bead of the adhesive of your choice (I used clear RTV
(Really Tough Vaseline)), and slip it over the edge. Apply cowling and let
sit until RTV cures. Now remove said cowling, and apply 3" Aluminum tape
(speed tape) over the edge seal, and voila! Cowling sealed and custom fit.

With no one responding with any part number from ACS or other supplier.
I went to JCWhitney just for grins. Under weatherstripping, trunk and
tailgate, 74-87 GM cars. Looks as if it might work. I don't see any
numbers as to size though. It says they will send a sample. I'll be

PLEASE keep in mind that this is a FIRE WALL. You do not want hot gases flowing
across a seal that can burn. This will bring in Very toxic gasses as products
of combustion.

I have been using this type seal on my Vixen since 97 with good results.
Cheep, easy, and makes a very good seal, but not totally fireproof. But
neither is the fiberglass cowl.
