I was rather disappointed when I got the DVD, in that the music that I
had come to love while watching the clip, wasn't used. I'll get over it
I'm sure, but watching those aerials and listening to that music really
hooked me. What was the name of that group again? I just checked the
archives and it was suggested that it was Enya, but what song?

I had the same question. I could not get the slack completely out without putting
under tension. A well respected RV6 guy at our airport had his loose so I
asked him. He said it was personal preference. Looking around I saw them both
ways and so left mine with a little slack. Others will say they have to be
tight or you will not have the control you need. I disagree and here are my
thoughts.
1. Mine have had slack in them for 430 hours. I was a 30 hour TW pilot before
the Fox.
2. My wife made her first solo in this Fox.
3. The concern of a TW is the unflattering and potentially dangerous ground
loop. It will not occur at a "proper" taxi speed. (not enough energy.) It will
not occur once the vertical stabilizer becomes effective. Therefore it seems
to me there is a small window of speed/energy where the ground loop can occur.
Transition through this window is fast with a Fox on take off, slower on
landing. It also seems that the ground loop is most likely with over controlling
the rudder/TW. I think slack in the chains buffers this a little. Also,
if there is enough energy for a ground loop there seems to me to be enough speed
for an effective rudder regardless of the TW (in our Kitfox anyway).
I plan to try mine without the slack some time but I do not think either way
is right, wrong, or dangerous for an S6.

I have mine just at the point of no slack but not actually stretched. This
does not place a load on the bearings and seems to work OK. A point here
though is if control is a worry and you have the solid Maule SFSA tailwheel
then changing to the Aircraft Spruce 6" homebuilders special soft rubber
taiwheel will work wonders. The the wheel is under $30. Also it runs much
quieter.

Lynn,
That sounds like a little false advertising to me...My wife and I were planning
to purchase the DVD as well after I showed her that clip on the web. Enya is
one of her favorite singers and the song that was attached to the "dancing planes"
is called In Time. If you are interested, the song is on a CD entitled
A Day Without Rain.

I agree with your RV friend that it's a personal preference. Some people
are comfortable with some slop because they don't want the tailwheel to
react too quickly. I prefer it just barely snug, not tight, just no slack.
IMO the biggest difference between tight and loose is the breakout force of
the tailwheel. Loose chains will allow it to break out with much less force
than tight chains. It's due to the geometry of the breakout cam. Try it
and you'll see what I mean.

Maxwell, My thoughts exactly. I have 750 hours with real loose and a
little loose. I have found that unlike the very sensitive finger pressure
aileron and elevator control, it is more difficult to get that sensitive a
rudder control with my feet being all the way at the end of my legs. and the
"dance" comes in and a little slack will buffer the input.

My guess on this is that selling the song along without the license is
illegal, but putting it on the free preview is more in the gray area. I do
agree that it is milseading to the eventual buyer.
