Steve makes the standard Avid wheel skis. And they work great! Merry Christmas to all of you and your families! Paul Seehafer Central Wisconsin ----- Original Message ----- From: englishav8r Subject: [avid_flyer] Airdael-Avid Wheel Penetration Skis Airdale make a wheel penetration ski kit for the Avids, exactly the same as Avid's. They accept the 6:00x6, 8:00x6 Tires or even the wheel barrow type as fitted to very early models. Our jig was made by the same guy who made up Avid's way back in 1990. (He's been working for us nearly two years.) We also have an A model set of wheels, brakes, and landing gear Fully assembled to a set of skis, available. Cost is $975 + shipping. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone AND Many Many thanks for all your support / business this year. Steve and Jerry at Airdale. Not to take away from Dave's other very good points, but there is a small nit to pick here. The difference between indicated and true airspeeds is not due to calibration errors, but due to temperature and air pressure variation. Calibration errors are the difference between indicated and calibrated airspeeds. Indicated A/S (IAS) corrected for instrument error --> calibrated A/S (CAS) Calibrated A/S corrected for altitude & temperature --> true A/S (TAS) Mike G. The plane went down in the Niowt area near 115th Street and Highway 52. Federal Aviation Administration operations officer Karen Byrd says the homebuilt aircraft did not crash through the ice on the lake. Authorities have not identified the victims. The single-engine plane, a Kitfox Speedster, was registered to a Lafayette man. Byrd says the crash happened around 8:20 a.m. The plane had taken off from the Jefferson County Airport in Broomfield. ________________________________ Message 7 _____________________________________ Time: 02:58:06 PM PST US From: "Chenoweth" Subject: Re: Kitfox-List: Fw: [avid_flyer] Airdael-Avid Wheel Penetration Skis --> Kitfox-List message posted by: "Chenoweth" I tried to send a message to Airdale regarding their skis using the form from their website. I assume it was Neil Jr. at the controls. Sadly, my wife and I watched them make their final take off from Erie Municipal Airport (where we live) just minutes before the accident. The lake upon which they crashed is about 5 miles north of here. This sure hangs a cloud over Christmas, but my wife and I like to go flying on holiday mornings, and we still plan to go tomorrow morning. We'll make this flight in memory of the two young men that perished today, anyone care to join us? Much better than the Jabiru wood prop(60"x54). But then I already knew the Jab prop was not optimum. Let's see what do I think I know? What I'm flying: A dirty IV Speedster 720 lbs empty rough non-original lift strut fairings (temporary) Grove gear (unfaired under the belly) 600x6.00 Cleveland wheels and tires (no pants(temporary)) Smooth cowling (Skyfox) Spinner on Jabiru prop only at this time. Previous best: Best climb solo 1300-1500fpm @ 60-65mph indicated, 3300rpm, Approx 7200 Density Altitude. Best cruise 105mph indicated @ 2650rpm, Approx 7200 Density Altitude. Note: 80 hp Rotax powered IV Speedster(clean) with in flight adj Ivo out runs me by 15-20 mph well.he used to anyway. He still beats me on fuel burn though. Sensenich First test: 15 degree @ my reference points @75% or 21" from hub on 28" blade Takeoff Max 2480rpm, 800foot ground roll, Approx 5000ft Density Altitude. Climb @ 8-900fpm, Cruise @ 120mph indicated full throttle 2480 rpm max.,6.7gph Sensenich Second test: 12.5 degree @ my reference points @75% or 21" from hub on 28" blade Takeoff max 2750rpm, 500ft ground roll, Approx 5000 ft D A Climb @ 14-1500fpm, cruise@ 120mph indicated @ 2650rpm, 7.2gph Future tests: Need to get max rpm of 3300 dialed in. Need to log economy results. Need to install Carb economy kit( didn't want to mix results) Need to perform 300ft takeoff runs Conclusions so far: I like it. It runs smooth. It is a little work to change pitch, but not bad. I can't use the old Spinner. The new spinner has a skirt that is =BD" longer than replaced spinner and I must use extender to clear cowling. I was able to kill a bug with it today. I think it was a fly from a cattle feedlot I flew over. He must have been soaring on that familiar smell of money. I can't tell if it's quieter.maybe a little. After test #2, I can definately feel more power being delivered to the prop. I think I'll save plenty on fuel bills..yeah right. Tom Tomlin
