I cant begin to tell you how much both Desma, myself and our families value the
wonderful comments, both on and off the list, from foxers in various parts of
the world. Speaking for myself, I feel privileged to be included in a resource
that has the participation of so many good people. In a world full of bad news
you are all the slender threads that remind us of the importance of being kind
to each other. Michael has asked me to translate the experience into words
which I am happy to do but not quite yet because to be quite honest I still haven't
come to terms with it myself. I can however tell you that Im bloody sore
all over and that Desma has a perfect harness impression on both chest and waist.
4473 is largely in tact but both wings will need rebuilding. Avionics and
instrumentation was all submerged for approx 1 hour as was the engine and NSI
prop which destroyed itself on impact. Thank you all again so much and I will
put something of substance up in the next few days.
Kind regards
Graeme Toft

I needed a replacement back plate for mine about a year ago and Frank Miller at
the time said they were no longer offering a spinner. (Incidentally mine new
cost $300 uncut and undrilled.) Fortunately, Frank had a used one already drilled
appropriately for my purposes sitting in a corner. I think John McBean
offers a spinner currently at almost 11 inches.

Hi
I'm Building a Mk7 here in the United Kingdom and now need a spinner to suit the
912S. Does anyone know who supplied Skystar of their aluminium 11" version.
This info would be very helpful now that Skystar are no longer around.

Take your time, Graeme. For some, talking about it is good therapy. For others,
it isn't. Yet for some it is good, but only after a while. Follow you hearth,
we are here for you when you are ready.

Graemy,
when I started reading your description of the incident and got to the part
when you first mentioned your passenger, I hesitated before reading on,
fearing the outcome.
I am glad to see the outcome was a happy one. Any landing that you can walk
or swim away from is a good one. Bent steel, torn fabric, wet
instruments.......all irrelevant.
A few years ago I sold a Rans S-12 to a gentleman in Texas. Later I found
out that he had a somewhat similar incident. The outcome was a sad one. Here
is a link if you care to read about it. Don't know that your sister in law
should see it, might disturb her.

To use or not to use flapperons has been a pretty lively conversation in the
past. I personally am a proponent of "the more the better, especially for
takeoff" (on model IV and up versions), probably because I fly floats mostly
and need every advantage I can get at times to get it off the water. But
for those that still think our flapperons aren't worth using, check out the
use of flapperons in this video
http://lazair.com/kitfox/index.php?showtopic=124. Pretty impressive (I'm
thinking I need to find a way to increase my flap throw right now)
Granted, I doubt the subject aircraft is using a Kitfox wing, but it sure
does have flapperons.
Note also the engine on the subject aircraft. Appears to be a VW. I've
always thought a VW engine would be a good engine for STOL type aircraft if
they would just slow the prop down with a reduction unit. Well, it looks
like this aircraft has a belt drive prop reduction with a VW engine. See
what it does for yourself.

To save the radios.
First take the top and bottom off and shake out the excess water. Next
pour alcohol over the top and bottom and shake off the excess, do this
about three times. Set it were there is air blowing over it like over a
heater duct of in front of a fan. Don't try it for at least three
days. This works with most electronics and will almost always save an
aircraft radio.

Thanks Alan, that exactly the type of information that I need right now. I
have stipped the radio and washed it in fresh water and soaked it in INOX
but I will wash the INOX off and use your method first thing this morning.
Thanks

Subject: | Missing Fuel Cap |
--> Kitfox-List message posted by: Steve Zakreski <szakreski@shaw.ca>
Regarding the recent threads about missing fuel caps, it was a few similar
events posted on the list while I was building that prompted me to install
the low fuel sensor in the header tank. That sensor provides protection
from many modes of failure, including:
- missing or leaking fuel cap
- fuel cap installed backwards
- plugged fuel strainer
- plugged fuel filter
- running out of fuel
- pinched fuel line
- air locked fuel line
- Kreem peeling from the tanks
- probably a few I can't think of right now.
We have had posts about kitfoxes coming down due to every one of these
reasons at one time or another. For about $150 and a day's work, I can't
think of a cheaper and more effective safety item.
These accidents are happening to people on this list that appear to me by
their posts to be at least as smart and cautious as me if not more so. So
it can happen to any of us.

As everyone who was at OSH in '05 knows Monday night we had a big blow.
Unfortunately, my album of photos was nearly totally destroyed by moisture when
our tents blew down. Many of the photographs were originals and sadly I had
no duplicates. Between this and a computer hard drive failure I have lost a
large number of photos from my customers.
I am unable to contact many due to e-mail address changes, moving etc. If
you have the RiteAngle installed on your aircraft please send me either via
e-mail or postal a copy if you would. I lost many photos going back over 10
years from our R&D days. Thanks in advance!

There are services that can recover data off of your failed hard drive. Just
