Here is a photo of it: http://home.online.no/~michel/tmp/Tonsberg.jpg We've had much bad weather, here in Norway, and this was my first flight in 2006. I just had to fly. Used a couple HVLP guns from Harbor Freight. Also, I have some unopened, unused P-tone for sale. 1 gallon Pontiac Red, and 1 gallon Blue (I'll have to look up the specific flavor of blue). Have had both less than 6 months. Will sell 'em half price to someone in or near Illinois. Can't ship. 217-898-4766. Mark

Subject: Last call for Sport Pilot Amphib comments!
--> Kitfox-List message posted by: "Paul Seehafer" <av8rps@tznet.com> Tomorrow is the deadline for us to send in our comments regarding adding amphibians to the Light Sport Aircraft rule. We've had a good number of positive comments so far, but it would be great to see more. So if you can take the time to fill out an internet or fax response to the FAA, I would really appreciate it. This could be important to any of us that might one day want to fly an amphib LSA. But it is particularly important for the older seaplane pilots that have been flying amphibs for years, but are tired of paying thousands to maintain their medicals. So lets see what we can do to help them, as well as ourselves. The Seaplane Pilots Association has very good information with all the necessary links to the FAA. You can find that at http://www.seaplanes.org/index.htm It also shows some very interesting accident statistics of light verses heavy amphibians that is worth reading. The FAA is specifically looking for comments as to why having amphibious capability is safer, and how it may impact things economically. Here is a just a brief list from my point of view after operating straight floats and amphibs for years: Safety - An amphibious aircraft can get fuel at airports. That is a huge safety advantage. Non amphibious seaplanes are many times flying around low on fuel because they can't find aircraft fuel on water. And if they choose to haul additional fuel in cans as many do, they increase risk of explosion or fire during even a minor impact or accident. Safety - An amphbious aircraft is more likely to be maintained better than a water-only seaplane. The amphibian can be kept in a protective hangar minimizing weather related airframe and engine deterioration, and damage. And when needed, it can be more easily repaired at an airport repair facility that is properly staffed and equipped. A non-amphibious seaplane is limited to dockside maintenance or repairs. That creates poor access to many areas of the aircraft, less than ideal working conditions, parts availability issues, and makes it difficult to find qualified repair personnel to do the work. An amphibious aircraft avoids all these issues, as it can be maintained and repaired just like any other land based aircraft. Safety - In the case of an engine failure in a light aircraft, having the ability to land in water or on land provides the best chances of surviving an emergency off airport landing. Safety and Economics - Being able to utilize airport services and facilities such as fuel, maintenance, weather computers, etc. provides the amphibian pilot with all the advantages associated with airport facilities. Economics - Because the amphibian pilots will be using airport facilities, just like land based pilots they will be supporting the facilities economically. Economics - Manufacturers of light sport aircraft that are amphibious will see more sales revenue than those that offer only non-amphibious seaplanes. The majority of the population does not have access to waterfront property in which to keep a seaplane. For this reason, few float manufacturers today offer straight (non-amphibious) floats. Thanks for your support! Paul Seehafer Central Wisconsin Kitfox IV 912ul Amphib

--> Kitfox-List message posted by: Alan & Linda Daniels <aldaniels@fmtc.com> Skystar ? Kitfox for sure. It is too great a plane to keep down. I have studied lots of planes, built or helped build 5 different brands, inspected several as a TA, and built 3 Fox's myself. IMHO nothing else even comes close in quality, easy of build, quality of flying ( in this type of flying) and most importantly safety. The Kitfox family is also the greatest, and it is a family. I know anywhere I go if I need help, someone is close. Likewise if you need help, no mater what you are flying if you are in eastern oregon, my place is your place, fully equipped with a shop and hangar. --> Kitfox-List message posted by: "jdmcbean" <jdmcbean@cableone.net> OK... I haven't said anything just yet... I have been trying to setup a get together.... Why.. because we can.. Where.. haven't figured that part out just yet.. But just for kicks... How about a consensus: When ? May is too soon.. June has Cameron Park, Golden West, Rocky Mountain... July has Arlington and Oshkosh... Aug... Gets a little warm in some areas but might work... or do we schedule something for the same time frame as Arlington or Oshkosh... or do we wait for September, October and head a little south... Where ? Thoughts have been.. Stanley, Moab, Salmon.. somewhere there is places for people to stay, eat, visit and more importantly.. FLY !!! I like fly-outs... Would enjoy hearing some thoughts... but I think it is time for an INFORMAL fun gathering of Fox's Please feel free to send me an email off list with your thoughts if you wish.. but we are going to do something... After uploading, I noted that page 2 and 3 are in the wrong order (who puts a subscription form in the *middle* of an article?), but it's on www.sportflight.com in the files section under Text/Articles. Enjoy.. -Jack

--> Kitfox-List message posted by: Lynn Matteson <lynnmatt@jps.net> Randy- You probably won't see the loosening of the fabric, just a "scalloped" look to the trailing edge, if viewed from a low angle, say, from the tip in to the root. It's one of those things that wouldn't be noticed normally, and I wouldn't have thought about it if I hadn't seen it in the later Classic IV manual. --> Kitfox-List message posted by: kurt schrader <smokey_bear_40220@yahoo.com> I was advised to stiffen the trailing edge on my 5 and I am glad I did. One person ran diagonals from the ribs to the center of the trailing edge between the ribs. Wish I did that. It only takes a little AL or plywood to do it. Very light for the gain. I did as the other person advised and sprayed expanding foam into the trailing edge to keep it from buckling easily. I like the extra stiffness, but both methods would have been better. I kept my heat to 300 except over the tanks where I went to 315. Much more temp and I would worry about the false ribs snapping too. Kurt S.
