Any chance you'll release a dvd of your escapades that we could
purchase? I'd sure like to see what you see during your wanderings,
especially approaches and departures in the back country.
Thank you and Kay for another matchless fly-in. It's a treat to see
so many (10-15?) fine examples of the Kitfox - and those equally fine
"brand-x" airplanes that attended!

Check the thermostat. If you have an older 582 (pre mod 99) It is my
understanding that there must be a hole of some sort in the thermostat to
allow a bypass circulation. I think this is done via a passage on the newer
582's.

Please look at the enclosed drawing, John. I can't figure it out. Somewhere I must
misunderstand something. How can a 12 inches wide tyre fit a 6 inches wheel?
PS: my drawing was done to scale. It should be pretty exact.
The Alaska tyres look great but ... they are for 6" wheels, aren't they?

Guy,
If you suspect the exhaust pipe, go to an auto parts place and purchase
a cheap extension about 6" long. Temporarily clamp it on and then go taxi.
I had to add an extension to mine after the cowl/radiator mods. I used a
similar extension but had it welded on as the final mod. I don't think
adding a short extension on the radiator outlet changes power. Of course,
if you ran it all the way to the tailwheel that might make a difference.

Just make a short extruder tube long enough to by pass the rad. The cold
air from the extruder will quiet your exhaust and keep the belly of your
plane clean. Chrome it and when people ask you what it is tell them it's
the smoke system;^)

Guy, could you take a picute of your setup ? Now that attachments can be
added to post it would make it more clear. Did you say you have a cowl
over the radiator or is it original?
And how did you maintain 175 F on breakin but not now ? I assume with a
hose?
New engines will generally run hotter for the first 10 to 20 hours as well.

Bill, that was the reason for the whole thing. The problem is that editing,
I find very time consuming and it is hard to devote a whole day - actually
many whole days, in front of the computer. The guys I fly with are losing
their patience with me though, so something will be forthcoming. I don't
know when, though.

Not that I am aware of. From the beginning, I had a little yaw to the left
needing right rudder. It didn't seem to affect that. I have a trim wedge
taped to the rudder now. A recent flight denonstrated that I have a break
in the zoom circuit that needs fixing.

Michel, I just re-read you post, I think the wheels are 7" across the
beads and 8" dia. I just did a rough measure on an extra I have. The
previous post shows the tires mounted. They look puffy, but they work great
and I like them.

I've never flown it without the extension so I can't judge the power
difference. It does NOT lack for power with the pipe.

Dave, I wish I could produce them. Maybe someday if I can figure out a way
to tool up for it. It was all a oneoff project with a lot of trial and
error. I'll post some more pictures on the sportflight site in it'spresent
version. For camera control, I use the infrared remote mounted near the
camera with the IF LED repositioned to the front of the camera and push
button switches hard wired into the appropriate traces on the remote circuit
board.
The bug wiper is a roll of the clear plastic that MotoCross racers use on
their goggles. It is advanced by a miniature servo with stops removed driven
by a 'servo tester". Miniature solenoids push the buttons on the side of
the camera for focus and f-stop. Camera movement is controlled by the
cables.

Well, Lowell, I don't know anything about tyres and I may be reading
wrong and mixing different things. But in my Kitfox 3 Construction
Manual from Denney Aerocraft Company, I have, in the parts list:
2 LW-27R Wheels; main gear, aluminium, 8" dia., 6" wide.
I "think" that is what is called "rim width" in other places. And the
King Fox tyres state that the minimum "rim width" should be 7".
Also, I would think that any tyre is smaller at the "rim" than it
widest part. Since the Cheng Shin are 7" wide, I'd expect that their
"rim" is slightly smaller than that.

I use in my Kitfox McCreary Aviation Grade tires
8.00-8. This means this tires are 8 inches wide, for
8 inches wheels. They are 20 inches tall, are heavier
than any other tire, fit perfectly on the wheels, and
should last "forever".

I have Armstrong 21X7-6 tires on my 'fox. I really can't say how well they
work as I've only gotten to taxi once on wheels. Areocet Floats make more
sense here for most of the year.

I think it's the Speedster cowl. I've added a back plate which forces all
the incoming air through the radiator. I'll dig up a picture.

I don't know. Bob Robertson did the break in. I'm going to try the hose
because I have to do more full throttle static runs. I'm going to put the
mains on stands and run it for a while with the tanks near empty to make
sure I've got good fuel flow. I'm then going to check flows with the tanks
full. I'll probably put at least an hour on it static so I'll want the
capability to keep it cool.

It might be me, but that air scoop looks like it is restricted by the cowl
exit.
That rad cowl i doubt will help you on cooling on the ground. In the air I
am not sure.
Bob Robertson is a good guy and I would expect he had no cooling issues but
most likely a larger cooling source than a OEM Skystar rad. My rad is
about 4 inch x 20 inch by 2 inch thick with 582.
Fuel flow can be checked static as well. You will need min. 6 to 7 gals
free flow per hour from gravity alone.
You should get increased fuel flow from Pitot tubes on caps if they sealed
properly.
Sharp looking Kitfox and I hope the temperature does not run as red as the
paint job :)
I see that it is 99.9 % done - does that mean a test flight any day now ?
