John, your suggestion is well taken. However, we have of nearly 500
people on this list, many who are on dialup modems, and 1+ meg files
are definitely large files, especially when Matt Dralle specified to
keep the files to less than 200kb, quote:

      "2) SCALE YOUR PICTURES DOWN!!! I don't want to see huge 3000 x 2000
pictures getting posted that are 3 or 4MB each. This is just
unacceptable. Use a program such as Photoshop to scale the picture
down to something on the order of 800 x 600 and try to keep the
file size to less-than 200KB, preferably much less."

Not only are the large files in violation of the spirit of the
attachments, we have a "captive audience" here and forcing the members
to have to download large files that they may neither want, nor have the
capability to reasonably view is not very fair to those with slow modem
capability. Also, forcing them to change email clients isn't fair
either. Matt is currently working on some sort of system where the
sender just provides a link to the photo and those who wish to view it
      simply click the link.

For the time being, a good alternative tool is using the microsoft Image
Resizer. It is very simple and will make these files more friendly to
      everyone.

Hey, an idea for you dial up guys is to get a Hotmail or Yahoo address
just for list/s, then you just get the mail and your choice if you want
to d/load attachments. Keeps you safe from dirty viral ones too. Don,
you're att were not large. John A.

I feel like the Salmon.... always going against the stream. I'm using

exactly what I want to download and what will be deleted directly off

I do tend to use the web mails though the ISP mailbox is so small and my

I am using Norton AV and yes I sure have seen it load the computer I'll

Certainly good advice. However let me suggest that one should just
set the camera for a resolution suitable for a computer or TV
monitor. 640x480 is totally adequate and would not give a better
picture with higher resolution. In other word the viewer cannot tell
the difference on a monitor. These files usually result in 60k to 70k
size and the load and send quickly.
For the dialup folks you probably have a setting on your email tool
that rejects messages over a certain size.
               Regards, Paul W

I have a question! Do you have to remove the prop to remove the cowl to inspect
or work on your engine? That's what it looks like, and I would find that very
inconvienent. Other wise, it looks like a neat way to fair the radiator and
      make it more efficient.

      Mike,
I can do all pre-flight inspections, Pull carbs (a little difficult),
replace spark plugs, change fuel pump and a few other things through the
top cowl access. Anything more than that and yes, I have to pull the
prop and cowl. That only takes about 10-15 minutes tops. I think one
advantage of having a one piece cowl is, it makes all the air pass over
the engine. There is no escape of air around the nose bowl to cowl gap.
Also made the cowl much stronger by epoxing it all together.

      Sounds good anyway

I have a question! Do you have to remove the prop to remove the cowl
to inspect or work on your engine? That's what it looks like, and I
would find that very inconvienent. Other wise, it looks like a neat way
to fair the radiator and make it more efficient.

I flew to a fly-in at West Point, Va today sponsored by the American
Cancer Society. Saw a guy putting a business card in my plane door and
it turned out to be a List Member (Ronal Smith). He recognized my name
on the planes data plate. What a small world.
It was right around 90 degrees today and on departure, I noticed my
temps creeping slowly up toward 180. I stepped climbed a little
starting at about 400' and everything settled out. I thought I had this
problem fixed but guess I'll have to go back to the drawing board.
Cruise was an easy 165 or less.

      Dear Lowell and Kay,

We can not tell you how much we enjoyed the fly-in last Saturday. This being
      our
fourth year it has just gotten better and better. It so great seeing all the
      friends we 've
made over the years. Yours and the Desert Fox fly-in are the only ones that
      we
absolutly attend every year, all others we make if we can. As always you and
      Kay
put on one heck of a show, great food and great hospitality. I know these
      fly-in are
very hard for you guys to do, but I hope you can still put them on for a few
      more years.
By the way some one mentioned the Bonanza, he needs to be counted too. His
      name is Tony
and he owns a nice model IV, but KCMA was IFR and he used the Bonanza to get
      in.

      Thanks again,
      Jud and Clarissa

Hey, an idea for you dial up guys is to get a Hotmail or Yahoo address
      just
for list/s, then you just get the mail and your choice if you want to

I have not used satellite, but I have a Verizon aircard in my laptop for
when I am on the road all day. It is almost as fast as my cable connection
at home. Most of the other wireless phone systems have something similar. If
you can get a cell signal you can be online and the transfer rate is far
      better than dialup.

      A bit off topic

I was thinking of going the satellite route but there is still a dialup for
the uplink. Any one used satellite and with what results?

Best to get rid of Norton (Turn it off)...It slows my computer down using a
      cable modem.

I feel like the Salmon.... always going against the stream. I'm using MS
Outlook so I can download only the headers for the emails than I decide
exactly what I want to download and what will be deleted directly off the
server. No viruses for a few years now.

I do tend to use the web mails though the ISP mailbox is so small and my
E-Mail client (Outlook) also checks the web mails.

I am using Norton AV and yes I sure have seen it load the computer I'll get
a copy of AVG and give it a try.

As for slow I think my dialup ISP has three monkeys typing at a fearsome
      rate of knots ;^)

Hey, an idea for you dial up guys is to get a Hotmail or Yahoo address just
for list/s, then you just get the mail and your choice if you want to d/load
attachments. Keeps you safe from dirty viral ones too. Don, you're att were
      not large. John A.
