I have looked at the wiring on my used model 2 with 582. The wire coming from
the regulator/rectifier used to feed through a 5 amp CB, but this was bypassed
with a 15 amp fuse. What is the right amperage at this location. Airwolf charts
suggest that the output of the charging system peaks at about 12 amps, so 15
amps strikes me as too high. The fact that the 5 amp CB was bypassed suggests
that nuisance pops occurred with the 5 amp CB. Is 10 amp the right choice?

Hi,
Fuse or curcuit breaker I would try a 10 amp to start .
I would be more concerned about voltage though. The Rotax regulators send
out more than 14 v and I have seen up to 17 or 18. Spend the money and
have a 13.5 to 13.8 constant voltage from a Key West Regulator.
I will tell you that if your battery gets a bad connection that with a rotax
regulator, that the spike " could wipe out some electronics. ie radio,
gps etc. As the battery acts as a capacitor . The regulator only partly
converts the AC wave to a spiky DC wave and the battery takes care of the
rest.

Congrads again. The passenger door came open on a 152 as I rotated during

I changed the 912 UL to the 912 ULS in my Speedster.
I am very happy with the increased performance. The ULS will fit the
origional mount, but the mount and exhaust pipe must be reinforced as per
Skystars's service bulletin.
Also I destroyed three oil coolers until I got the oil cooler and mount from
Skystar. No further problems.

HI, I think that my 912ULS was one of the first installations in a Kitfox
Model IV. Everything fits perfect (except the forward engine mounts were
about 3/16 forward and wouldn't fit. The one on the right was no proglem as
it as flattened tube and could be drilled out and an an insert inserted.
The left was a problem as it was a short welded piece of tubing that the
bolt fed through. Tube had to be cut and a short length added. The
installation of the 912ULS made it the best Kitfox made. I had it installed
in Dec 1999. Have over 1100 hours, no engine cracks or anything on
airframe. Have a startup procedure that is as smooth as glass. Clint

I think you must be very close to the capacity of your
system to cool at those OATs. Once near the limit,
it only takes a little push to make a big difference,
up or down. On the other hand, designing for the max
limit can be very draggy the rest of the time.
I still think all you need is a variable outlet from
your scoop. Something to draw more air thru on those
climbs on really hot days, but that you can close to
normal the rest of the time for less drag. I think
you have a good design and that is all it needs.
Looks good to me anyway, but then I am dealing with
the same thing on my scoop and havent had the time to
try it yet. Still a theory then, but my fixed outlet
door does help a lot when I bolt it on.

I should be testing today. We just broke the 1981 record at a nice 97
degree OAT. Getting ready to leave for NY so no time for testing. I once
said that changing the ratio and adding WaterWetter didn't make that much
difference. Well, I just saw in my log book where I had recorded a 6 degree
cooler with different ratios and WaterWetter. I did make a difference this
time and got me that extra 5 degrees or so that I wanted. Like you said,
everything is on the edge and just need a little shove.
The outlet might be a better solution but I'm going to stick with what I
have right now. I'm tired of fabricating fiberglass.

My 95 kit came with .093" (standard I think). I have since replaced it with
.063" but do see a little in flight flexing around where it touches the
upper cowl.

My understanding is that it varies with the model and its Vne, Dave. My
Kitfox model 3 with Vne 100 MPH has a lexan windscreen of 0.06"

Dave,
I had a 1/8" windshiled and just replaced with 1/8 Lexan. Rock solid.
I just cut with my best tin snips that I just sharpened. I don't think it
took more than 30 mins to cut it out after i traced the old one onto it .

PS i has a 2 mil on another one but it was earlier model 2 and windshield
have less of a angle than my series 4 and it did flex at times.

That's one of the great things about the Kitfox is being able to open the
door when ever the desire takes you. It is a bit wet sometimes landing on
floats with the door open...refreshing though!!

how big is the radiator? they made them larger for newer models the small
one will be a hasel for ever
