--> Kitfox-List message posted by: "Lowell Fitt" <lcfitt@sbcglobal.net> Thanks Richard, Most of my experience with Stainless Steel has been in the dental office and observing the various forms and their relative corrosion resistance in the sterilization process - mostly autoclaving - which can present a quite hostile environment. The bulk strength instruments like extraction forceps are quite corrosion resistant, but will eventually deform on their working surfaces. The instruments that require sharpening will corrode quite readily, usually a black pitting will form on the surface. I suppose there is an inverse relationship between corrosion resistance and strength and correspondingly a direct relationship between magnetic attraction and strength. Fires have plagued our area this month with the drought so there are lots of landing spots. Don't forget the sturgis bike ralley at the end of Oshgosh! Great concerts among other things if you are coming back during that time! Be sure to wave!! jdmcbean wrote: >--> Kitfox-List message posted by: "jdmcbean" <jdmcbean@cableone.net> > >Hey Randy.. --> Kitfox-List message posted by: Lynn Matteson <lynnmatt@jps.net> A Cessna 182 practicing T & G's at Napoleon Airport (3NP) ran out of runway and crashed across the road at the end of 27 yesterday...nobody hurt, but the plane is a total loss...one wing ripped in half, vertical tail tore loose, etc. It is still stuffed into the trees just 30 feet from the road, and about ground level. I mention this because I had been keeping my IV at this airport for a month, just to have a choice of 2 runways, of greater length and width, per my instructors' wishes. Today I was taking it home to my shorter, narrower, and only runway this morning, but not before some last few TOLS at 3NP. It was a little unnerving to have to take off and land with that wreckage looming up ahead, but nothing that an "old pro" of 30-some solo hours couldn't handle. : ) I finally went home and made a half-dozen TOLS at the home field, then a couple at each of the other 5 fields that I'm currently cleared to go to, then home. Thankfully, none of the other fields had wreckage to have to fly over. Lynn Kitfox IV...Jabiru 2200

--> Kitfox-List message posted by: "Rueb, Duane" <ruebd@skymail.csus.edu> Lynners: I was once up with a student at KAUN (Auburn) when someone from the 'flat land' ran a 206 off the end of the runway, and we had to alternate to Lincoln and wait for the runway to be re-opened. I hate to see such things happen, especially since they are preventable with more training or by applying the training one already has. Not to sound too righteous, most of the time something like this happens, the pilot is either rusty as hell, or lacks the training and discipline to practice enough to be proficient enough to be able to do the normal stuff. If you can't land a Cessna trike with all the flaps they have, you should be embarrassed, cause that is about the easiest winged thing ever made to operate. Too many pilots and their airplanes simply do not fly enough to maintain proficiency. It is sad to see so many ignored aircraft parked at the Flugplatzes. Sounds like you are doing good with your flying program, so keep up the good work.

If it's original, you have the MC-1 master cylinder, and the PH-1 calipers. The reservoir is the master cylinder itself. It holds a couple ounces of fluid. There should be screw on the top. Remove that, and stick a white, small zip-tie down to check the level. MC Drawing here. http://matco.elixirlabs.com/catalog/index.php?file=catalog&uid=2192&prod_pca tegory=69102&clist=0,68008,69102&uid=2192 Caliper drawing here. http://matco.elixirlabs.com/catalog/index.php?file=catalog&uid=2192&prod_pca tegory=69101&clist=0,68008,69101&uid=2192 DO NOT use DOT 3 automotive fluid. That's what happened to mine. All the seals had to be replaced. Use MIL-H-5606 spec fluid, and you can't get it at the auto parts stores. BTW, check this link on 5606 fluid. http://www.tpub.com/content/aviation/14018/css/14018_178.htm Even though the piston shaft is supposed to be the vent, Matco drills the center of the screw with a small hole to "help" it. They replaced mine with plastic internals wrenching screws, but you can use whatever fits the threads. I sent the following to Lockwood without response. I'd appreciate any recommendations/insight on the two questions. Thanks, Frank McDonald -----Original Message----- Sent: Tuesday, August 01, 2006 8:13 PM I purchased a 912S through SkyStar. I have a couple of questions. 1. I have a GRT 4000 EIS. For the cylinder heat temp sensors GRT advised me to remove the two VDO sensors on the #1 & #4 cylinder heads, replace the VDO sensor with a bolt used to attach the CHT ring sensor. I assume the VDO sensors measure cylinder head water temp. If that's true, wouldn't the VDO sensor be the best measure of CHT? Would your recommend I use the VDO vs the ring sensor? 2. Trying to hook up the wiring. The only wires I have coming off the engine are the two tach wires (blue & white) and the two generator wires (yellow in shielded braid). What do I do to hook up the ignition? The schematic shows two "BRN" (I assume brown) wires. Am I missing some wires? Thanks for your assistance. Frank McDonald

Runway is clearly visible (highlighted in snow) about one quarter up from the bottom of the picture and at about 110/290 degrees in reference to the picture. If you unzoom (?) a bit you can see about 400' cliffs down into the canyon about a quarter mile off each end of the runway. (past the big trees at each end that make it hard to land. ;-) ) And just a half mile further east is America's first Space Port. This is the Stratosphere Bowl where the first balloon flights into the stratosphere were launched in the '30's. Steve Fossett also launched one of his record attempts from here about 7-10 years ago. The Bowl makes it possible to inflate a 400' balloon with little wind problems. You still need to visit some time. Sept/Oct is great around here. Thanks for the picture. I think different folks will use different resistence ranges in the senders for different panel indicators / meters. I found the thermister that is used in the sender for the Westach Quad Gauge and was able to rebuild mine. I suspect the VDO sender is of a different value than the ring sender for the EIS. Regarding the ignition wires. If it is similar to the 912UL that I have, there should be a two four terminal connectors coming out of the igniton modules. Two of the wires terminate at the connector, I can't see the color on my engine, but the ignition leads would be continuations of these wires and taken to ground through the switches. Quite frankly, though, looking at the diagrams, I can't see how I figured it all out back then. I sure don't like the European variety of electronic symbols. Hi Andrew, My name is Debbie and my husband is Layne...is is in ground school tonight and has been looking at Kitfox planes for 6 months...he w ants to learn to fly and more, he wants to buy a plane. DO you fly? Ha ve a plane? There is one for sale in Ventura CA area where I lived for 25 years and we were thinking of looking at it. Please respond. I know Layne would love to talk with you. I am going t o learn to fly as well ( I hope to anyway) but did not take the ground s chool in one month. Layne is overwhelmed and I think I may sign up for it in the fall and take it as a semester course as it should be (not try it in a month!) Thanks~ Debbie and Layne Cropper 569-2767 in Anchorage ________________________________________________________________________ Try Juno Platinum for Free!
