I am sorry to hear that, Maurice. I think the forum is a nice feature
from Matronics, our site provider, and while I seldom use it myself, I
think we should try to get acquainted with it. Allow me to walk you
through it:
What happens when you click on the following link?
http://forums.matronics.com/viewforum.php?f=8
Do you see anything? If not, there is something in your browser or
firewall setting, that prevents you. I can't help there.
If you see the forum, on the top banner, do you see an icon with "Log
In?" If it is "Log Out" then you are already in and can answer any
topic. If not, you need first to log in. You will need a user name and
password.
Once you are logged in, you can then look at all the topics and you
will, down the page, three that start with the words: [Poll] Those are
the ones I created to register your Kitfox model, engine type and gear
type.
If you prefer, here are the three direct links.

There should be a leather disc squeezed between two large steel washers
where the flap handle pivots. It should have a bolt through the pivot
point, secured by a castellated nut, secured by a cotter pin. Tighten
this nut a bit and see if that prevents the slippage. I have my handle
coming up through a center console, and have made a detented gate for
the handle to slide in. My detents are at 0,10, and 20.

Kind of expensive. I suppose if it's time for an overhaul anyway then it might
hurt a bit less. Would 15 more HP really feel that much different? Also, isn't
there a danger of overstressing some other part of the motor that was designed
for the lower hp?

For the basic coverage, yes. There are some exceptions. If your agent called
the "Big Seven", and got quotes from all, then that's it, for the levels he
asked about. I think each additional "category" of add-ons is a new quote
for those. Ask your agent to be sure about that. And the point was
re-iterated several times to use a good, knowledgeable, and trustworthy
local agent. He mentioned AOPA as being basically a call center, and won't
get better rates than anyone else. Falcon (EAA) works a little differently,
but I don't remember the specifics on that.
Your agent shops around for you, just as you would for car insurance. But
once the $ is quoted, that's it from that company for 12 months, with no
hope of changing it, at all. And there are only seven underwriters who do
aviation insurance. There are some new faces coming, but not much detail
there.
I got my info from a briefing given by a local agent and adjuster at our EAA
meeting yesterday. Most of the info was new to me, as well. It was very
informative, and quite surprising. I, too, had no idea my first quote was
locked in, either.
Now, legally change your name and N-number, and who knows?

I have had the same problem even with the rubber Mercedes gaskets. I
found a product called "Mean Green" which takes the stain off
effortlessly and which does not seem to damage the plane's finish. I
bought it at a regional discount store (Dollar General), so I have no
idea of whether or not it's nationally distributed, nor can I tell you
offhand what the active ingredient is.

Over the years, this subject has come up many times and the best cleaner
mentioned each time has been a little gasoline on a rag. Clean the
stain with gasoline, then wipe it off and wash the surface with a little
water. It sounds counter-intuitive, but previous list members say it
works well.

George,
I have the same problem with my Classic IV. If you use Simple Green full
strength on a cloth and rub like you are spit polishing shoes takes it
off. I think what is happening is we are filling our tanks too high. I
think that the vent on the cap suctions some of it out. What I did was
empty my tanks until they were bone dry including the header. I then put
6 gallons of gas in and put a mark on a measuring stick. I then put in 2
gallon increments until I had about 14 gallons showing on the stick
(Including the header). That placed the fuel when full about 1 1/2
inches below the filler neck. I use my measuring stick religiously and a
stop watch. I burn 4.5 gallons at 4800 rpm and about 5.5 gallons at 5200
rpm. When I taxi in to visit someone without re-fueling I hit the stop
watch on the instrument panel. I always know exactly how much fuel I
have by fuel burn and the dip stick. Jeff Classic IV 912UL

Simple. He called six of the underwriters, and got six separate quotes. That
is about what you would do for car insurance.
But the difference lies in if you were to go to another agent, and have HIM
get you quotes. They would be the exact same as the first agent. That is
because the underwriters reference your name and N number for the info.
What's problematic is if you are a)dealing with a schmuck agent who didn't
speak aviation and sent bad info, or b)the underwriters make a mistake, then
you are stuck with that bad quote.
Again, use a good local insurance agent.

Simple Green is great for removing stains, bugs, grease, etc. However, let
me warn you. That stuff is incredibly corrosive. Spray a little on a
camlock and watch what happens to it in a couple days. So if you decide to
use the stuff, just ensure you keep it away from metal parts, or give them a
good rinse when you're finished.

George,
You may have a vented cap with a Skystar added vent tube.
Look at the underside of the rim. Are there four shallow slots around
the edge? If so, use something small to let epoxy seep into the slots to
form a seal. Worked for me.

Subject: Kitfox-List: Gas Caps Leakage
On both of the past 2 KF's I have had, a 4 and a 5, when the tanks are
topped off the caps seep staining the wing with gas. I have tried new
caps but they still seep. Does anyone have a solution for this ??
Also what is good to clean the stain? I have tried all kinds of
cleaners.
Thanks

Jeff,
Caution when installing batteries in this ELT. Fit is very
tight. The thin cover on a Duracell is the only protection from a short
circuit. The whole case has potential. I installed the batteries. Picked
up the case a few minutes later and it was already hot. The fit is so
tight the cell covers can scrape out a bare spot. Called ACK and they
said this happens. Used dry silicone spray on new cells and had no
further problems.
Mounted mine far back in the fuselage for W&B. Remote panel
in front of the pilot. Antenna inside behind the baggage sack (S-6).

Hi guys,
Rotax put a note out on simple green, do not use.... it has caused engines
to quite when it has corroded the wires in the mag area.
