Wow, Gary, I was just looking at the heads on your engine, and noticed
how much more fin area I have around the exhaust pipe. Mine is the
newer engine, with larger heads, but I never realized how MUCH larger
'til I saw your engine. I had never seen a picture of the earlier
engine 'til now.

Hello John,
Here is a picture of my rudder trim tab. It is adjustable from the cockpit
and works well. I made this modification after flying the Fox for a couple
of years. If I had it to do over I would make it a little bigger.

Yes the vent is at the top of the tank under the

have female threads so one has to use a close

hydraulic supply houses. Check the car nut places
like Earls. Attached is a couple of pics for an

PPS, I used a 90 deg bulkhead hyd fitting for the

PPPS,
With regard to the original issue of unequal tank

partially blocked vent is not the problem. Having
said that I sure would not want my vent line to
have any issues which is why I used the 90 deg fitting and SAE vent hose.

Oil leaks... the gift from Hell that keeps on giving!
Any other Soob owners out there have persistent or recurring oil leaks like I do?
I have a quasi-NSI non-turbo EA-81 that I rebuilt using most of their subkits
(sans redrive and dual-ignition). I have 24 hours on the airplane, and am
about to replace the flywheel crank seal for the second time already. Do "real"
NSI engines have any provision for keeping that seal in place? I don't know
if vibration wiggled it loose or something else. Anyway, I can peer up behind
the flywheel and clearly see that the seal has worked its way out a bit again.
As for my other oil leak, I have decided to live with the occasional drop
I see from above the oil pump region. I don't think I'll ever fix that short
of rebuilding the entire engine.
Suggestions and advice very welcome!

Hello Margaret,
If the seal is a new OEM, then you might have an internal pressure problem
that is pushing it out.
Also, long ago someone on the list, who's name I can't recall, was selling
inexpensive seal retainers he fabricated for the oil pump seal. I bought
and installed it and have had no problems.
Good luck.

If you use an' automotive type' of compression tester, always have the
throttle in the open possition
If you use the differential type (which is preferred) is doesn't matter.
Also using this type, if you have leakage you can immediately tell what the
problem is, by listening to sound of air escaping. It will be easy to tell
if it is coming out of the carb. (intake valve), or exhaust (exhaust valve
problem), or crankcase (piston related problem).

Locktite makes a substance that will hold the seal in place and fill any
imperfections. I can not remember the number. A bearing and seal supply
house will be able to tell you. I had a lot of problems with the input seal
on the gearbox. Vented the box and used the locktite glue/sealer no more
problems.

While on the subject, I noticed it was a single leaf spring. After

landing. Thanks to the good help of Lowell, I have now a two leafs and
I feel much safer.

Thank you, Lowell. It looks like my poll on the Matronics forum was
more confusion than anything else. Anyway, I can report that, on the
forum, there are:
3 Rotax 582
2 Rotax 912
2 Subaru
2 Jabiru
Of course, some may have "voted" in both places so we can't just add
the two but since I didn't vote on the list, you can add a Jabiru 2200
on your list for me, please.
Cheers,
Michel

Thanks Kirk, I am posting in the spreadsheet with the names to avoid dups.
If you remember his name or if he is lurking drop a note. I know of lots of
others, but will wait a while for more posts before I try the tedious task
of researching the archives.

Lowell-
You may not have me (or Michel, or Gary) but I'm Jabiru 2200-powered,
Speedster IV, and tailwheel. I say this because of only one (1) J2200
showing, and there's probably more out there. If you already have me, I
don't want to "vote" again. : )
On second thought, maybe I listed myself on Michel's Jabiru engine list
on Yahoo (bleeah!), and not here.

Good thought, I'll have to try it and see. I guess it is for the initial
alignment and at the flair, I guess I just close my eyes. Seriously,
though, I'll try it and see when the runway goes away.

Hello John,
Here is a picture of my rudder trim tab. It is adjustable from the cockpit
and works well. I made this modification after flying the Fox for a couple
of years. If I had it to do over I would make it a little bigger.

The trim is controlled by a small lever below and in front of the seat
against the left side. Pull up for left trim, push down for right.
The tailspring is fiberglass. Herb Gottelt gave it to me when my first steel
one broke about ten years ago. It is great! I do not know if it is still
around the market though.

Mine leaks a drop at a time from the (aircraft) rear,
but I can't seem to locate thes source.
I agree that the Loctite solution should do for you.
Make sure to have 2 good clean surfaces when you apply
it.
Also check your crankcase breather vents to make sure
they are not clogged. Don't want excessive pressure
in there.

Oil leaks... the gift from Hell that keeps on giving!
Any other Soob owners out there have persistent or recurring oil leaks like
I do? I have a quasi-NSI non-turbo EA-81 that I rebuilt using most of their
subkits (sans redrive and dual-ignition). I have 24 hours on the airplane,
and am about to replace the flywheel crank seal for the second time already.
Do "real" NSI engines have any provision for keeping that seal in place?
I don't know if vibration wiggled it loose or something else. Anyway, I
can peer up behind the flywheel and clearly see that the seal has worked its
way out a bit again. As for my other oil leak, I have decided to live with
the occasional drop I see from above the oil pump region. I don't think
I'll ever fix that short of rebuilding the entire engine.
Suggestions and advice very welcome!

My 912 just took a spell of rough running between 2000 and 2400 RPM, also noticed
( smelled fuel so shutdown) fuel overflow from right carb.
runs great at high RPM and has a great mag check. Any ideas, am new to the 912.

I heard back from Stratus today on my problems. It appears that the valve
guides were brass and not the right size. When the engine heated up the
valves got very tight ( which is why the pushrod broke ) As for the over
heat not sure. Everything was checked out, pressure checked, resurfaced or
replaced and then reassembled by stratus. Stratus really stands behind
their stuff. It is being run in the test cell now and should be back here
soon.

Are there really Fox drivers out there that are
so good that they can tell if one wing tip is 7" higher than the other?
With the plane on a level surface (hangar floor?) this is easy too
determine, but try it out on a sorta level field. You need a good level
to
tell.
I would think one can easilly detect 7'' out of level in flight by
looking out under one wing then the other to the horizon. My instructor
taught me this way back.
When I fly, I just use the ball for an immediate indication of how level
I
have the wings.
The ball can be centred without being level in flight. It may act as a
level on the groung and stationary. Take for example if you are making a
co-ordinated turn. The ball is in the centre but the wings aren't level.
Rex.

The only thing I've done on the tail wheel is taxi... The guy who was
supposed to get me started on the tail wheel was busy that day. Two
winters I've taken the floats off and still don't have one minute on wheels
or skis... I guess I'm going to have to be satisfied with float flying. I
think I can suffer that!!
BTW my float flying was some what curtailed this summer by a SNAFU at
Transport Canada. I should have my float endorsement finished this week.
Now all I'll have to do is wait for TC to issue the endorsement.
Noel
P.S. Definitely put me down for floats...Aerocet composite 1100 straight.

A personal observation of my own flying time , if you want to fly
level just look at the top of the windshield and there is a straight bar
that runs from the left front to the right front and holds your wings on
. if this bar is not level with the horizon then you are not flying
level . if you cordinate the horizon and the cross tube and the ball in
the center then straight true flight . as for landing and lining up the
plane and having to put a mark on your windshield ? who are we trying to
kid this plane lands straight and true if you keep the rudder moving
with the wheel on the right end THE BACKEND.
On a side note if you are mountain flying do not try to keep the cross
tube level with the terrain . the ground my up and smite you a big one
lol .
Just my humble opinion and none twisted my arm to tell yall this stuff .
Take care have fun fly safe fly low fly slow

My guess is that you have a leaking float needle valve. I had exactly the
same problem after a carb rebuild. Every time I flew it would act that way
on taxi back to the hangar and I shut down to fuel leaking from the vent.
I went back to the old needles. Check the bowls for debris that might be
causing a leak.
Also a call to one of the service centers might help. There ate three
needles for the 912. Yours, assuming it is a UL model should be brass in
color. The 912ULS is black and there is a silver one, application unknown.
