Do any of you have a jpg or other document file of the sight tube fuel gauge

I haven't seen the newer model Jab so I don't know what to compare with. My
CHT's run at around 298 F at cruise during summer, so if you have more fin
area you must have great temps.
As mine is a tail dragger my oil level is pretty difficult to set so I have
been gradually increasing to get a reading mid way between the high and low
mark on the stick. On the weekend I went for a flight and it emptied about a
pint of oil into the overflow canister and the belly of my plane.
I ended up dumping all of the oil and refilling it with correct capacity but
it hardly registers on the dip stock when standing "3 point".
I checked with the Jab dealer in Canada and he said that this is a common
occurrence if you overfill the oil.
Just when I had become really confident in the engine. Oh well

Wow, Gary, I was just looking at the heads on your engine, and noticed
how much more fin area I have around the exhaust pipe. Mine is the
newer engine, with larger heads, but I never realized how MUCH larger
'til I saw your engine. I had never seen a picture of the earlier
engine 'til now.

Lowells list has several types of engines. Some are quite heavy and started
me wondering. I have a 582 currently on the front of my Model IV 1050 and I
do intend to use it when the wings are done, but it will have to be rebuilt.
I was offerred a good deal on a C-85 and simply didn't think too much about
it as it is much heavier than the stock engine or even a 912. What range of
engine weight is appropriate for my model. The original Denney plans don't
offer any advice.
I doubt I'd put a C-85 on anyway, but I'd like to know.

With my model 3 and Jabiru 2200 (SN. 1665), I need only a tiny drop at
the end of the dipstick, in taildragger down position, Gary. Any excess
of that ends up in the recovery bottle, anyway. With my "drop at the
end of the stick" I fly many hours without needing more oil.
Cheers,

It's a shame that they haven't come up with an extended dip stick for tail

Someone on the list said at one time that they put a tiny ball (I assumed
that the ball was from a small antifreeze tester)in the sight guage. Both
ends of the sight guage should have some sort of restriction to prevent the
ball from going into the tank. This sounds as if it would work but I have
not tried it.

Do any of you have a jpg or other document file of the sight tube fuel gauge
for the 13 gallon wing tanks? My AW inspection is coming up this week and I
would like to have something nicer looking than my adhesive tape and ball
point pen markings.

first off. it is a stuck needle float valve. I replaced mine with also the arm.
went and done it again and again. finally I went and put an inline rock filter
on both carbs, got from lockwood. because there was always small black stuff
in the bowls. could have been from the junk hoses that were on it, changed
them to fuel injection hose. Now I have no more problems. been 200hrs. runnin
good.

I might add that I have a primer on a 582 that the check valve did not seal
and the gas, via gravity drained into the carb throat. The gas wold drip out
the rear carb.
I too checked the needle vavles etc and took them out and blew them out and
the fuel lines.
The solution was to disconnect the primer and then it was fixed. I have an
enricher that I have used for the last 80 hours in three months with out a
hitch. But I will put a new primer in next time I do a service as the primer
is the best way to start in colder weather which is just around the corner.
FYI the enricher is not a choke as many do refer it too.
I would like to add that I just added another prop to my collection and am
using WARP 68 : 3 blade on a 3 to 1 E box .
Works pretty well so far .

Rex,
I am still skeptical. When on the ground, engine off - just sitting there -
have a friend lift one wing tip 3.5 inches. This is easy to do. Note the
difference. Now consider the same difference in the air with very light
turbulence.
Your second correction: I stand corrected. What I should have said is how
coordinated I am flying. But where it applies, straight line cruise, they
are the same thing.
Randy

Subject: Kitfox-List: Wings Level ?
Are there really Fox drivers out there that are
so good that they can tell if one wing tip is 7" higher than the other?
With the plane on a level surface (hangar floor?) this is easy too
determine, but try it out on a sorta level field. You need a good level to
tell.
I would think one can easilly detect 7'' out of level in flight by looking
out under one wing then the other to the horizon. My instructor taught me
this way back.
When I fly, I just use the ball for an immediate indication of how level I
have the wings.
The ball can be centred without being level in flight. It may act as a level
on the groung and stationary. Take for example if you are making a
co-ordinated turn. The ball is in the centre but the wings aren't level.
Rex.

I tend to agree with Randy on this one. On a calm gradual descent I can fly
hands off for long periods. I mention this, because it gives me reason to
believe my wings are trimmed correctly, but at cruise, I need a tad of right
rudder to maintain heading. While coming home from our last cross country,
We flew two legs of about 3 hours each and during that time, I worked on my
coodinated flight with a little right rudder and trying to keep the ball
centered and watching the wingtips relative to the horizon. Either I am
losing it as a pilot or just losing it, but I have a real challenge trying
to fly with the wings level. I am strongly motivated to do something with
the rudder trim and see if that is my problem.
When we fly the highways or the rivers, no problemo, as we are in turns
almost continuously, but a GPS heading for hours at a time - I need some
work.

Subject: | Looking for a used warp drive 3 blade for a 912ul |
Hey Gang,
Anyone have a used warp drive 3 blade prop with nickel leading edges
they want to get rid of. Or even a set of blades? (I have a spare hpl
hub for a 912, but the blades are junk)
I want to compare performance of the Warp against my IVO inflight
adjustable.

If I recall correctly, your plane doesn't have a lot of dihedral. If you
want to fly hands-off, pump up the dihedral and it will get rock steady.

Well; I'm not on your list, though I'm not really sure what the list is about.

Gary-
When I initially filled my engine, I used the (then) figure of 2.2
quarts (US), and filed a notch on the dipstick when the oil had settled
and leveled off. This is where I have flown for 140 hours on the
plane...with the obvious oil changes of course. I get some oil
collecting in the canister, but have not measured it. I have dumped it
when it gets about halfway full, which has happened a couple of times.
Mine is a taildragger too, and my installation instructions said to
re-calibrate the stick for 'draggin'.
My CHT's have always been under the max...I have an EIS so I just set
the top end parameters and let it go at that. Trying to recall any high
end temps...just can't recall the particular numbers...too many other
things to keep track of, as I'm still learning to fly and that keeps my
attention for the most part. But I'll make it a point to record some
numbers tomorrow....never over 300 F, that's for sure.
Go to Pete's (or Andy's I think) website and look at the engine
pictures there, and you'll see how much fin they added around the
exhaust pipe area, and maybe some on top too.
Probably better temps with the larger/newer heads, but the Economy
Tuning (lean burn) added some temperature, I'm sure...it sure did to
the EGT.
Lynn
p.s. Since I first filled my engine with oil, I have seen figures of
2.3 US quarts , and 2.43 US quarts, so what's a guy to believe?

NSI Turbo, Cap inflight adj. 3 blade
Tube gear
Nothing to fancy
Empty weight is 927# (I think 800# of that is the engine install)

Lynn, it could be with or without the oil cooler. I also have two figures in my
manual, but in liters: 2 liters and 2.3 liters . But when changing oil, you
can't empty the cooler so it is 2 liters I use.
Cheers,
Michel

Same problem with my NSI engine in a TD aircraft. I
bought a new Soob dipstick this summer to fix that. I
don't mind being a cup or so low, but it would not
show on the old stick. Didn't know if it was a tad
low or empty, so now I can see every quart.
